by MARY SUE GROSSMAN Program Coordinator, The Center for Jewish Life In June, Jeanine Huntoon, Director of the Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center, and Pam Cohn, Principal of Friedel Jewish Academy, participated in “Partnership2Gesher”, an educator’s seminar presented through Partnership2Gether. The program’s goal was to build a stronger bridge – gesher - for educators involved in Partnership’s educational programs. The ten-day program included educators from Indianapolis, San Antonio, Budapest and Israel. A generous grant from the Phillip and Terri Schrager Supporting Foundation covered travel expenses for the Omaha participants. All other program costs were covered as a part of the Partnership2Gether Central Area Consortium budget, which is funded by allocations from the 12 participating communities. Jeanine and Pam were each excited to share their thoughts about the experience. Following is what they each related: Jeanine Huntoon I was privileged to be part of the Partnership2Gether Educational Seminar in Israel on June 8-17, 2013. their “book family.” The “Adopt a Book” event will begin on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 1–5 p.m. in the JCC Auditorium. Books will also be available on Monday through Friday, Aug. 5-9 from 8 a.m.–8 p.m. There is something special that comes with adoption. Childless couples who are

fortunate enough to adopt a child are filled with joy in welcoming a new person into their lives. Animal lovers find it hard to resist the sad faces of puppies and kittens from the Humane Society. While we are not suggesting that books will elicit the same response as babies and critters, there is still a warm feeling associated with one’s own literary collection. And you may be assured that they are neither offended nor traumatized by multiple ownerships – they thrive on being seen as objects of value and are willing to snuggle with anyone. The ink on their pages remains clear and legible year after year after year. You may do yourself and a book a favor by adopting one or more of them. For your convenience, the adoption process is simple and easy. No background check is required. Your willingness to adopt is sufficient verification for The Center for Jewish Life to accept you as a worthy parent for the adoptee. There is no age requirement to become the parent of a book. In fact, many children’s books are included. All ages are welcome. Freewill donations are encouraged and accepted. The library will use donation money to acquire new titles for the shelves. It’s a good deal all around. This is your opportunity to add to your personal library by adopting a Continued on page 2

and I can’t say enough about how grateful I am to have been selected to be part of the Omaha team. The mission of the Partnership is to promote mutually beneficial endeavors between the people of the

Central Area Consortium and the Western Galilee, and it was clear from our first moments together that the relationships we were building would be long-lasting and would Continued on page 2
