by OZZIE NOGG On Wednesday, May 25, L.O.V.E. members will volunteer as special wait-staff when the Star Deli turns its spotlight on Italy with a special Veal Scallopini Dinner. “Our volunteers are always front and center at the Blumkin Home,” said Judy Brookstein, L.O.V.E President. “We look forward to a fun time at the Deli Dinner, schmoozing with everyone and being part of this culinary experience.” Those in the know say Veal Scallopini is one of the best entrees to come out of the Star Deli kitchen. These thin cutlets of succulent veal are garnished with mushrooms and will be served with a side of mostaccioli in sauce and mixed vegetables. Don’t miss this special delizioso dinner. Special Deli Dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home Auditorium on Main Street. For the past two months, the Star Deli has put Tzedakah boxes within

easy reach of patrons. “We include a note on each table that encourages customers to acknowledge our excellent service by giving money to a specific Jewish charity,” said Josh Gurock, JSS Facilities Coordinator. “This month the money will be go to L.O.V.E. because they stepped up and asked to volunteer at the Veal Scallopini Dinner.” Other recipients of Deli Tzedakah have been the Institute for Holocaust Education and The Nebraska Jewish Historical Society. “Both these agencies provide such valuable services to our community,” said Gurock. “The Deli Tzedakah is our way of saying thank you -- to the IHE for its educational outreach programs and to the Historical Society for the wonderful displays they put together for Continued on page 3

on Wednesday, June 1, 7 p.m., Tina Meyers will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award, and Lori Kooper-Schwarz, the Emerging Leader Award. Installation will be at the One Pacific Place Apartments Clubhouse. Tina Meyers is the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Service Award which recognizes outstanding years of service to or impact on NCJW Omaha Section. Loyalty, commitment, dedication and willingness to work at any level are also factors in selecting the recipient.

Emerging Leader in 2005 and served as Co-President with Shelly Pichik from 2007 to 2009. During their term, Shelly and Tina developed two new Community Service programs for NCJW, both still active today: Totes for Tots and Reading Pups. They began using the Consignment Sale as a way to raise funds, and chaired other fundraising events such as the Fall Art/Jewelry Boutiques for several years.
