by MARY BORT Jewish Federation of Omaha Foundation College-bound seniors David Glazer and Lilly Phillips have each been awarded a $10,000 Phil and Ruth Sokolof Honor Roll Merit Scholarship. These awards are not based on need, but on Mr. Sokolof ’s criteria of personal achievement, scholastic performance, community service and overall good character. According to Suzanne Singer, chairperson of the otherwise anonymous committee, “Lilly and David were selected from a pool of very strong applicants. We were all amazed by the talents and achievements of so many Jewish students – our task was extremely difficult. While our number of applicants is always the largest for our college freshman scholarships,

To honor his daughter whose talent and appreciation of music and theater arts inspired him, Mr. Sokolof created the Karen Sokolof Javitch Music Fund for students pursuing degrees in music performance, composition or music education. This year’s recipients are Caroline Juster and Arthur Masyuk.
