Her newest works are paintings called mandalas. “Mandala” is a Sanskrit word for “sacred circle”. Many cultures use mandalas or circular images to convey universal concepts about the circle of life, unity, eternity and wholeness. They are used as symbols for meditation, protection and healing. “The geometric structure of the mandala appeals to the graphic designer in me who appreciates order and balance,” she adds. “I love the way the colors and patterns come alive and are mesmerizing.” You can view her works at www.laurabolterdesign.com. Some on cruise choose to ignore Fried’s reminder of the Holocaust by HOWARD SILBER Special to the Jewish Press When Omahan Sam Fried was invited by Cunard Lines to recount some of his Holocaust experiences in lectures during his cruise aboard the Queen Mary 2, little did he know that each of his talks would draw audiences of nearly 500 people and that the remarks would stir up a Survivor Sam Fried’s lectures on a recent cruise were aimed bit of controversy.
