by MARY SUE GROSSMAN Associate Executive Director, Center for Jewish Life During the past several years, anyone attending a Partnership2Gether Steering Committee meeting has heard a discussion that started with a simple comment: “Wouldn’t it be fabulous to have a Partnership mission?” While enthusiasm and excitement was high, planning and scheduling a mission has remained elusive. The perfect opportunity then presented itself this past year when Partnership was introduced to an extraordinary program produced by Ballet Austin entitled Light/The Holocaust and Humanity Project. A fulllength contemporary ballet, Light includes a Holocaust Sunset in Akko. education partnership that promotes against bigotry and hate through the protection of human rights arts, education, and public dialogue.

and governmental entities, the impact of Light has spanned an impressive cross section of the communities in which it has performed. Since its world premiere in Austin in April 2005, Light has travelled to Philadelphia and Miami and will be presented in Denver in January through March. After being introduced to the project, there immediately began a dialogue to find a way for Partnership to be involved with the project. Conversations with Ballet Austin and other supporters ensued and after a few months, it was announced the international debut of Light would take place in Israel, Sept. 18-Oct. 2, 2013, during a three city tour that will include Akko, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. by OPHIR PALMON Artistic Visions - Pictures of Life Future, Beware! an art exhibit by photographer Ophir Palmon will open to the public on Monday, Jan. 7, in the H. Don and Connie J. Osborne Family Gallery at UNO’s Criss Library. A special opening reception hosted by the UNO History Department will take place on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the gallery. The exhibit’s images were taken in 2010 when Palmon followed a group of BBYO members on that year’s annual March of the Living. Using his camera to explore and document how young people today understand and relate to the Holocaust, Palmon’s project and pictures resulted in the published book by the same name. The book
has been expanded to this feature exhibit. Future, Beware! challenges the viewer to consider the roles and choices made by Perpetrator, Victim and Bystander during times of conflict. Like the book, the exhibit asks us to examine not only the impact of war atrocities, but also inspires us to reflect on the moments and occurrences which all of us will face at some time in our lives, a missed opportunity to engage or raise a voice, a decision to act or ignore, that are just as threatening to our humanity. Future, Beware! is sponsored by the Frances and Sam Fried Holocaust Education Fund, the H. Don and Connie J. Osborne Family Gallery, the Natan and Continued on page 2
