South Florida Celebrates Lag B’Omer While Accommodating Covid-19

IT’S MY OPINION

Shema Koleinu I assumed that the worldwide pandemic was enough of a challenge. The fear, the suffering, the physical, emotional, and financial repercussions of the terrible virus were daunting. It looked like 2020 couldn’t get any worse, when another worry was added to the litany. For the first time, dangerous giant killer hornets were spotted in the United States. It seemed like a bad sci-fi script. The added woe pushed the situation to a saturation point. Dayenu, it was enough. Then my telephone rang. The news on the other side of the receiver was so disturbing that it was difficult to process. A loved one had been given a totally unexpected medical diagnosis. Nothing would ever be the same. Obviously, my thoughts do not hold precedence when it comes to running the universe. In reality, there are no timeouts just because we have had “enough.” During wars and epidemics, floods and droughts, life goes on with or without the presence of other calamities or issues. With G-d’s help, these frightening global and personal concerns will soon pass and healing will come as a true refuah. Epidemics dissipate and disease responds to treatment. The path may be rocky now, but b’ezrat Hashem, the finish line and cure lies ahead. Shema koleinu, may Hashem hear our payers.

Boca Beach Chabad Celebrates Lag B’Omer With Car Parade Honoring Healthcare Workers Lag B’Omer commemorates the end of a pandemic that struck the 24,000 students of the Talmudic sage Rabbi Akiva 2,000 years ago. Ever since, it has been celebrated with public parades as a day of healing and renewal. This year Boca Beach Chabad used the opportunity to honor the healthcare providers at Boca Regional

Hospital. “Our community feels a particular debt of gratitude to the hospital for the miraculous recovery of our member Alan Levy, who was one of the first local cases of Covid-19 and spent close to a month in intensive care at Boca Regional,” said Rabbi Ruvi New, Chabad director and chaplain of the hospital. “Through the unyielding faith of the family, the incessant prayers of the community, and the incredible dedication of the hospital staff, Alan returned home and continues to make great strides in his recovery,” he continued. “The parade is our way to publicly thank the hospital.”

Chabad of Skylake: One Man Drive-by Concert for the North Miami Beach Community Although the pandemic temporarily prevented North Miami Beach residents from gathering to enjoy outdoor concerts and activities, one North Miami Beach organization figured out an inventive way to bring the concert to them. On Tuesday, May 12, Chabad of Skylake staged a drive-by concert to bring some fun and light-hearted entertainment to families in the city’s Skylake community. A one-man band perched in the cargo bed of a pick-up truck performed while the vehicle slowly made its way through Skylake’s neighborhoods. The route began at Chabad of Skylake and covered Miami Gardens Drive to the south, 199th Street to the
