Chanukah at the Bronx Jewish Center

Chabad of Orange welcomed a crowd of over 200 for the “Firetruck Gelt Drop & Menorah Lighting” in Monroe, NY. Following the menorah lighting – by Monroe Town Supervisor Tony Cardone, Village of Monroe Mayor Neil Dwyer, and Chabad Board Member Stacey Finkelstein – Rabbi Pesach Burston led a special “menorah message mediation and memorial” in response to the Jersey City shooting. Following the ceremony, the assembled witnessed a Chanukah “miracle” performed by the Monroe Joint Fire Department: thousands of Chanukah gelt chocolate coins rained down from a firetruck.

On October 2, Zicharon, an organization that assists people on issues relating to dementia, hosted an informative evening in Menorah Hall featuring renowned dementia experts who provided the audience with much-needed advice and information on dealing with this disease. Among the speakers were Rabbi Eliezer Kaminetzky; Dr. Gary Kennedy, chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at Monteore Medical Center; and Matt Kudish, senior vice president of caregiver services of the NY Chapter of the American Alzheimer’s Association.
