TheArleneSolomonVisionseventhasbeenanimportantelementin bringingwomentogetherwithacommongoaltohelpothers,bothherein LongBeachandaroundtheworld.Arlenealsoprovidedfundsforwomen's leadership.Shedelightedinbeingamentortoyoungerwomenandknew thevalueofensuringthatthenextgenerationwouldcarryonher philanthropicwork.

JewishLongBeachWomen’sPhilanthropyisinspiredandguidedbyour traditionoftzedakah(righteousness/charity)andtikkunolam(repairingthe world).Alongwith157JewishFederationsinNorthAmerica,weseekto providesignificantopportunitiesforwomentoaffirmtheirJewishidentity andspirituality,tobeproactiveinevolvingissuesofconcerntowomen,to engagenewleaders,andtoinspireotherJewishwomenbyourexamples.

ArleneSolomonVisionsisoursignatureevent,bringingtogetherwomen fromthecommunitytocelebratewomen’spowertocareforthe vulnerable,tocommittothesurvivaloftheJewishpeople,toinvestinthe futureofourchildren,andtorescuethoseinneednomatterwheretheylive orhowtheyworship.

RosecarrieGoslinsBrookswasborninthe NetherlandsandimmigratedtotheUS whenshewas6yearsold.Asanimmigrant anddaughterofHolocaustsurvivors,she learnedearlyonabouttheimportanceof communityandtheimpactofhelping others.Herparentsworkedveryhard establishingthemselvesintheretailclothing businessinSouthernCalifornia,butthey alwaysfoundtimetoparticipateinlocalcivic andphilanthropicorganizationswhichultimatelyinfluenced Rosecarrie’sownpathinphilanthropicendeavors.

In1972RosecarrieandAlanBrooksmovedtoBelmontShore.They joinedtheJCCin1976fortheinauguralMommy&Me,aprogram RosecarriehelpedinitiateforourECE.(AtthetimeRosecarriewas workingasadentalhygienistinprivatepracticeandatRanchoLos AmigosHospitalaswellasservingasastaffmemberforthelocal DentalHygieneprograms,USC,UCLA,CerritosCollege,teachingthe hygienestudentshowtoworkwithpatientswithdisabilities.)

ThatJCCmembershipbeganalifetimeofvolunteering.Sheservedas presidentoftheAJCCforover2yearsduringitstransitionfromtheold buildingtothisbeautifulcampus.HavingservedontheJCCboardfrom 1984through2001shehasvolunteeredandheldmanypositions, includingbeingamemberandchairofnumerouscommittees,suchas, theKadimahSummerCamp,KidsPlace(aprecursortotoday'safter schoolprograms),TheLongBeachJewishFilmfestivalandmore. Subsequently,sheservedontheFederation,FoundationandJewish LongBeachboards,andstillchairstheFoundationinvestment committee.

Rosecarriehasalsovolunteeredasaboardmembersince1999and eventuallyasBoardChair(2017-2020)attheCaliforniaConference forEqualityandJustice,aLongBeachorganizationdedicatedto equalityandjustice.Since2008shehasheldmembershiponourlocal ADLchapter’sboard.

LastyearAlanandRosecarrieproudlycelebratedthe25thanniversary ofascholarshipfundwhichtheyfoundedandfundthatsupports100 studentsannuallyinTamKeyVietnam.Theyaretheproudparentsof twodaughters,ason-in-lawandthreegrandsons.

Withher“can-do”attitudeandadesireto givebackandhelpothers,Laurentruly exemplifiesa“WomanofVision.”Lauren wasbornandraisedintheChicagosuburbs inastrongJewishcommunity.Shecreditsher grandparentsasbeinginstrumentalinshaping herJewishidentity.Hercommitmenttothe Jewishpeoplewasfurtherstrengthenedwhen shewenttoIsraelinher20sonaJewish Federationtrip.

WithherdevotiontoJudaismandcommunity,itisnowonderthatwhen theFriedmansmovedtoLongBeachin2010,Laurenimmediatelygot involved.Laurenhasservedas:theAlpertJCCco-chairoftheannual appeal;JewishLongBeachSuperSundayvolunteer;TempleIsraelGala CommitteeMemberandwastheBelmontHeightsMakeaDifference Dayactivityco-coordinatorforfouryears;supportedFremont ElementarySchoolscience&technologyfundraiserandwastheir BusinessPartnerchair.

LaurenhasbeenextremelyactiveinJewishLongBeachWomen's PhilanthropyCabinetformanyyears.Shewasinvitedtoserveasa LentznerFellow(aprogramcreatedtofurtherdeveloptopyounger leaders).ShewashonoredwiththeFredNeuburgerYoungLeadership Awardin2019(alongwithRachelSuojanen)forco-chairingthe Women'sPhilanthropyPromDressDrive/Boutique.Duringthe pandemic,Laurengavehertimehelpingtopacklunchesfordeliveryto seniorsthroughtheAJCC.

LaurenhasrecentlyfocusedhervolunteeringtosupportJewishcollege studentsasshehastwosonsincollege(Aaron&Jakob)andherthird sonNathanwillbeincollegesoon.Tothatend,sheiscurrentlyonthe boardofBeachHillelandservesasaco-chairoftheCollege ConnectionatTempleIsrael.

Beyondherprofessionalandvolunteerachievements,itishelping othersthatistrulyherpassion.Laurenstates,“Ilovehelpingpeople achievetheirdreams,whetheritisbuyingorsellingahomeorworking inthecommunitytohelpusachieveourcommunityobjectives…It makesmehappy!Iloveourcommunityandwanttohelpitgrowand prosper.”

LindaTemkinWaltzman

LindahaslivedinLongBeachherwholelife, growingupattheAlpertJCC,Camp Komaroff,andHillelatCSULB. Sheledarewardingandfulfillingcareerasa speechpathologistandspecialeducation earlyinterventionistinLBUSD.Now,she cherisheshertimewithherthreechildren andsevengrandchildren.Shecreditsher parentsandgrandparentsastherolemodelsforleadership,loveof Israel,volunteerismandtakingresponsibilityforactinguponhervalues. Sheespeciallyenjoysmeetingandlearningaboutpeoplewhoarenew toourcommunityandbringingthemintocirclesoffriendshipand support.“I’mgratefulforthemanyopportunitiesthatwerehereforme overtheyears,”shesays.“NowI’mcommittedtoensuringthatfuture generationscanlookforwardtoevenbigger,brighter,andbetter timesahead.”

Overtheyears,shehasbeenactiveinavarietyofcommunityagencies andJewishorganizationsincludingNationalCouncilofJewishWomen, Hadassah,JewishLongBeachWomen’sPhilanthropy,Associationof AmericanUniversityWomen,EndAbuseLongBeach,Congregation ShirChadash,TempleIsrael,Brandeis-BardinInstitute,EarlyChildhood EducationCommitteeofLongBeach,JewishFamilyandChildren’s Service,JewishLongBeachBoardofDirectors,YomHaShoah Memorials,YomHa’atzmautCelebrations,JewishChildren’sBook Festival,andAnnualKindergartenFestivals.Otheractivitiesinclude CypressSchoolDistrictparentrepresentativefortheAnti-Defamation LeagueandfacilitatorforGrantElementarysitecouncil.Someofher favoritecharitiesincludeJewishNationalFund,UnitedHatzalah,and SaveaChild’sHeart.ShelovedtravelingwithfriendstoIsraeland JewishcommunitiesinEuropeandSouthAmerica.

Olga’sworkintheIsraeladvocacyandeducationspacehasbeen recognizedbyvariousawardsincludingbeingnamedasoneofSouth Africa's2011influentialyoungChristianleaders,receivingthe2016 JerusalemAwardfromtheWorldZionistOrganizationinrecognitionof advocacyforthestateofIsraelandtheSouthAfricanJewish Community,andbeingrecognizedas#1amongthe25YoungGlobal ViZIONariesbyTheJerusalemPostandJewishNationalFund.

OlgaservesastheChiefExecutiveOfficerofDEISIInternationalin SouthAfrica,andasaboardmemberoftheInstituteforBlack SolidaritywithIsrael(IBSI)intheUS.ShepreviouslyservedastheChief OperatingOfficerofClubZ,aZionistYouthProgramintheUS.Olga’s literarycontributionsincludeIsraelophobiaandtheWestbythe JerusalemCenterforPublicAffairsandPathsoftheRighteous:Stories ofHeroism,HumanityandHopebyAriMittleman.Olganowheads SapphireStrategies&Consulting,aconsultingfirmthatworksto positivelyimpactthetrajectoryofnationsthrougheconomic empowermentandpublicpolicy.
