Staff Spotlight: Lisa Lockett, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Art Specialist

How long have you been a part of the Alpert JCC community and what brought you here?

Twelve years! I was referred to by a teacher who was working in the ECE at the time

Tell us a bit about your role here at the J.

I am the art specialist in the ECE. In my role, I encourage all children to explore and take pride in their innate creativity.

What do you love most about being the art specialist?

It's a beautiful marriage between my love for working with children and expressing my artistic spirit. I can feed both passions! I love being able to piece together what teachers are working on in their classrooms and how I can create an art experience that threads both together.

What do you love most about working with children?

Being able to witness children connect intrinsically with the art medium...there is a focus and intentionality that is evident when children are exploring art with their soul.

What do you love about art?

It is truly the ultimate expression of creation. The goal is to make something in a way that no one has ever made before. Art is not a place where we follow directions. It is a place where you establish the direction you want to take.
