The donation will come in the form of 15.97 million Class B shares of Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway investment fund. It is Buffett’s 15th annual donation since the 90-yearold tycoon began giving away his considerable wealth in 2006.
Over the last 15 years, Buffett has gifted more than $37.4 billion to charity, the majority in Berkshire stock. Much of this has gone to the Gates Foundation, a charity run by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife that focuses on fighting poverty.
Owning more than $46 billion in assets, the Gates Foundation is thought to be the world’s largest private philanthropic fund. The Foundation said in a statement that it was “awed” at Buffett’s largesse and his dedication to fighting inequality.
“Over the past 15 years, we have enjoyed a special friendship with Warren, and his advice has had a major influence on us,” said the charity. “ Warren has not only an amazing intellect but also a strong sense of justice. Warren’s wisdom will help us do a better job and make it more fun at the same time.”
Buffett is estimated by Forbes magazine to be worth around $71.4 billion, making him the 7th richest man in the world. Topping the list is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos with $178.1 billion, with Gates coming in second. Israeli Startup to Offer World’s First 3D-printed ‘Steak’
Redefine Meat, an Israeli company based in Rehovot, has unveiled the “Alt-Steak,” which they say will replicate the texture, flavor and appearance of real steak. The “steaks” will be produced using patent-pending 3D printing technology. The fast-growing global alternative meat market is expected to reach $140 billion annually, according to the company. Redefine says that they will create “sustainable, high-protein, no-cholesterol steaks that look, cook, and taste like beef.”
Redefine says on its website that its products “are designed to appeal to the world’s hundreds of millions of ‘flexitarians’ or ‘conscious carnivores’ who seek to reduce their meat consumption, often as part of their personal sustainability efforts.” The new Alt-Steak is made out of soy and pea proteins, coconut fat and sunflower oil, along with natural colors and flavors. Designed to recreate the muscle structure of beef, the faux steak is high in protein and – being plant-based – has no cholesterol.
