This is an ongoing series of gifts to my grandfather. These pieces while gifts, have each been commissioned by him in different ways. The subject of the start to this series is a photo I took of his hand at my art show, while he questioned what constitutes art. Becuase of the simplicity of the subject matter I wanted to use a more visually interesting stlye so I chose an abstracted look. I continued with this look because of how much he enjoyed the first piece.

This is one of my absolute favorite projects I have ever worked on. I partnered with an author over the course of 2 years to bring this childrens book to fruition. Each character is based on a very specific tree and was assigned an art style based on traits of the character.

This collection of abstracted portraits has multiple meanings, on its most basic level it shows how everyone has 2 different was of being and/ or thinking. On a deeper level these portraits that separate our emotions from logic shows us there has to be a balance of the 2. The logical side being the more angular of the 2 is less humanistic, solely thinking in a logical way and having no regard for the emotions of others turns us into machines.

This piece is a self portrait and is representational of me in so many ways not just my emotional state at the time. The workis meant to be reminiscent of an overcrowded message board in that you can still see the things behind it and you can immediately tell how dated something is because of how many other things are on top of it. There were things that I’d in a sense overcome but you can still see the traces of them but overall there is a smile on top. The piece is named W.I.P because the long process of loving myself isn’t over, and really at that time it’d just started.
