Returning to Campus Jesuit Community Partnership Our best defense against the spread of COVID on campus is for students and staff to stay home if they are ill or have been in contact with someone testing positive for COVID-19. We expect families to keep students home from school who show any signs of illness, or who have been in contact with family members who are ill.

Additionally, we will be notifying parents/ guardians and sending students home from school if they show any signs of illness.

Mandatory COVID-19 Testing All students and staff coming to Jesuit’s campus for any reason will be required to take a COVID-19 rapid test and share those results with Jesuit’s Student Health Office. Prior to returning students to indoor classrooms for the HyFlex schedule, Jesuit will require an initial testing of all students and staff. After that initial screening, Jesuit may conduct periodic “surveillance testing” using the BinexNOW Rapid Antigen test to detect potentially infectious asymptomatic individuals.

Any student or staff member who begins to show signs of illness on campus will be sent immediately to the Health/Quarantine facility in the Bill Hunt Boardroom adjacent to the Knight Lobby for screening by the school nurse, and will be sent home immediately. Parents/guardians must be prepared to pick up their students if they show signs of illness.

Returning to Campus

Daily Health Screening All students and staff must complete a daily health screening using the HealthWorks app prior to coming to campus, and upon arrival should proceed immediately to their assigned location for check-in via the CapScann temperature scanner.

Once students confirm that they have been following CDC guidelines, and have had no exposure to nor symptoms of COVID, they will receive a unique QR code to check in via the CapScann machine, which will also take their temperature.

Visitors All non-essential or unscheduled visitors are prohibited from entering the school building during the school day per Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidelines.

Non-essential Travel Policy Jesuit is following CDC travel advisory guidelines. This is a requirement for all students and employees coming to the Jesuit campus.

People arriving in Oregon from other states or countries for non-essential travel, including returning residents, should selfquarantine for 14 days after arrival. While a 14-day quarantine is the safest option to prevent the spread of COVID-19, those who have traveled out of state then back home to Oregon may consider ending quarantine early if they have not had any symptoms under these conditions: • After 10 days, without any testing or • After 7 days, if they have had a negative result by an antigen or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test within the 48 hours before ending quarantine.

Masks/Face Coverings

Physical Distancing

Approved masks or face coverings must be worn by all students, staff, and visitors while on campus – in outside spaces, in hallways, common areas, offices, and classrooms. Face coverings must cover the mouth and nose completely. See CDC guidelines regarding masks. Face coverings may be removed while students and staff are eating lunch, as long as appropriate physical distancing of 6 feet or more is maintained. Mask requirements are in place at all times that students are on campus: before and after school hours, and while participating in clubs, athletics, and other activities and school events. With the exception of JHS-issued face coverings, masks should not include words or phrases.

Students and staff are expected to maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet as much as possible throughout the school day. Classroom desks and common area seating have been arranged or marked to maintain physical distancing. Students are expected to utilize the seating as planned and not move any furniture unless directed by a staff member.

Hand Hygiene Students and staff are required to sanitize their hands upon entering the school building. All members of the community are expected to wash hands frequently throughout the day.

Hand sanitizing stations are in every classroom and in common areas throughout the school.

Safety Measures

Cleaning Protocols The school building is cleaned thoroughly each day in accordance with CDC guidance.

Desks and other workspaces will be disinfected at the end of each class period.

Responding to Positive COVID-19 cases Washington County Health is our Local Public Health Authority (LPHA), and as such, responsible for tracking and mitigating the spread of communicable diseases, including COVID-19.

We are required to report any COVID-19 cases in our community to our LPHA. When we learn of a positive case, we will work closely with our LPHA to determine next steps. We will partner with Washington County for contact tracing, communication with families, faculty and staff, and necessary quarantining of other students and staff members who may have been exposed.

Generally, LPHAs and Jesuit will not identify individuals impacted by name to the larger school community. While Jesuit will seek to maintain confidentiality of affected students and staff while cooperating with the LPHA for contact tracing purposes, there may be times when the identity of the person testing positive may become known.

Examples of Possible COVID-19 Cases in the Jesuit Community SYMPTOMATIC student who has not been tested for COVID-19: If a student is ill with

COVID-19 symptoms, they will isolate at home for at least 10 days. They may not return to school until their symptoms have resolved and at least 10 days have passed from the day symptoms began and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without using fever reducing medicine.

SYMPTOMATIC student who tests negative or has an alternate diagnosis: If a student is ill

with COVID-like symptoms and tests negative or receives an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional, that student should remain home until symptoms improve and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without using feverreducing medicine.

If a student is ill with COVID-like symptoms and tests negative or receives an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional but they have been in contact with a positive COVID case, Jesuit will consult with local health authorities to determine if it is a presumptive case. If the student is classified as a presumptive positive, they will isolate at home for at least 10 days. They may not return to school until their symptoms have resolved and at least 10 days have passed from the day symptoms began and they have been fever-free for 24 hours without using feverreducing medicine.

ASYMPTOMATIC student has exposure to positive COVID-19 case: “Exposure” to

COVID-19 is defined as having been within 6

feet of a person testing positive for COVID-19 for a cumulative period of 15 minutes or more within a 24 hour period.

If an asymptomatic student has exposure to a positive COVID-19 case at school or offcampus, that student will report that exposure to reportcovid@jesuitportland.org and quarantine at home for seven days from the date of the last exposure. They must show no symptoms and have a negative COVID-19 test in the last 48 hours before returning to campus, or remain in quarantine with no symptoms for 10 days if they do not take a test.

If household members become ill during the student’s quarantine period, the quarantine will extend from the date of the new exposure. If an asymptomatic student becomes ill during the quarantine, the student must begin at least a 10day isolation from the onset of symptoms.

The student may return to school when their quarantine or their isolation has concluded.

Students or staff in the above situations should consult with their health care provider and remain in touch with Ms. Jennifer Adams, JHS student health coordinator.

Outbreaks

Jesuit will communicate with the appropriate members of the community when an outbreak occurs on campus, without identifying the names of affected students or staff. On-campus outbreaks may necessitate the quarantining of individual cohort members, multiple cohorts, or even the whole student body.

Classroom Procedures Arriving to Class Students will be required to wear face coverings at all times in classrooms and hallways. If a student arrives for class with an improperly worn face covering, the teacher will tell the student they cannot enter the classroom until they are properly protected.

All classrooms achieve at least three exchanges of air per hour. In addition, new ventilation systems have been installed to significantly increase the flow of outside air. As a result of these improvements, classrooms will be markedly cooler, especially in the winter months.

Desks have been spaced six feet apart in every direction. For the purposes of contact tracing, students will be assigned seating in every classroom and will be expected to adhere to those assignments.

Students should sanitize their hands before and after each class. Students will spray their desks with disinfectant before leaving the classroom.

Teacher Response If a student is not cooperating or complying with health expectations, they may be asked to leave the classroom and report to the Dieringer Office. Students who repeatedly disregard health and safety protocols will not be allowed on campus and will remain in remote learning.

If a student is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms during class, they will be asked to report to the Bill Hunt Boardroom immediately where they will be checked by the school nurse, then be picked up by parents/guardians.

Campus Procedures Common Spaces, Restrooms, and Water Fountains Students and staff are expected to maintain physical distancing and wear face coverings at all times while occupying common spaces.

Certain common areas, including the Gedrose Center, Clark Library, Canisius Chapel, and both gyms will only be used by students who are assigned to those spaces.

Restrooms have established maximum occupancy limits, which are posted. Once those limits are reached, students are expected to wait their turn outside.

Water fountains may be used as fill stations for water bottles. However, students may not drink directly from water fountains.

Lunchtime Meal service will not be available in the Gedrose Center, and microwaves will not be in use for student use. Students on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays are required to bring a pre-made lunch from home. On Wednesdays and Fridays, students who are staying on campus should also bring lunch. Seniors may not leave campus for lunch on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Students may not share food or drink, including water bottles, with others. Students should bring their own utensils and napkins.

Lunchtime Seating Seating for lunch will occur primarily in designated outdoor covered areas and large

tents. Students must be seated at least 6 feet apart.

Students should dress warmly to eat outside.

Students may remove their face coverings while they are seated and eating. Once they are finished eating, students are expected to replace their face coverings.

Hallways and Walkways Hallways will be marked for two directional travel with a dividing median down the center.

Most stairwells will be designated one direction.

Students and staff are expected to follow the directional signage and maintain physical distancing in the hallways and stairways. Passing time is ten minutes to allow adequate spacing.

A Pledge to Stop the Spread of COVID-19 at Jesuit

The health and well-being of all members of the Jesuit community are everyone’s responsibility. We all need to take the steps required to keep our community healthy and stem the spread of COVID-19. All students and parents/guardians are required to sign the following pledge before returning to campus.

As a member of the Jesuit community, I take responsibility for my own health and pledge to adhere to ALL public health guidelines and COVID-19 expectations of Jesuit High School to protect the health of my family, as well as of Jesuit faculty, staff, and my fellow students.

I pledge to protect myself ...

• Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and call my doctor if I experience a fever of 100.4 or higher, dry cough, difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell.

• Alert reportcovid@jesuitportland.org if I or anyone in my family tests positive for COVID or I have the symptoms above.

• Stay home if I or anyone in my household is sick or has COVID symptoms.

• Wash my hands often for 20 seconds with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

• Keep my personal belongings to myself and not share with others.

• Participate in COVID testing and contact tracing as needed.

• Observe all instructional signs and health and safety protocols at Jesuit.

• Follow CDC guidelines at all times when off campus, including quarantining when returning from out of state.

And to protect others ...

• Maintain appropriate social and physical distancing (at least 6 feet), when on campus or with others not in my safe pod.

• If I develop symptoms on campus, I will see the school nurse or student health coordinator immediately.

• Parents agree to pick up a sick student immediately. The threshold for sending a student home for illness during this pandemic will be quite low.

• Wear a CDC-approved mask on campus and in public settings when physical distancing is not possible.

• Abide by directions for isolation and quarantine if I test positive for COVID-19 or have been notified that I have been exposed to a person testing positive.

• Be positive, sensitive, and helpful to anyone who may be troubled or struggling due to concerns about the COVID pandemic.
