For almost twenty years, Jeni’s has led the way in creativity in their shops. Jeni’s is a Certified B corporation endorsed by International Nonprofit B lab. The certification comes with highly met standards for their shops to consistently meet including social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The team prides itself on placing as much influence in their communities as they do within their shops. Jeni’s is a nationwide success when it comes to ice cream: “as of March 2020, the ‘Scoop Shops’ are located in twelve states and the District of Columbia. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams pints are also distributed in over 3,000 high-end groceries and markets nationwide, as well as through mail order” (Wikipedia, 2020). Vulnerabilities As a food company, it is important to ensure that Jeni’s always complies with all FDA, CDC, OSHA and other government agency laws and guidelines. Because of the nature of its business, there are many potential crises at hand. For example, all businesses that serve food must go through an auditor to determine if their store and business is sustainable for customer service. Other vulnerabilities include any employment issues. Businesses go through instances of employment issues such as low staff, unemployment claims, disciplinary actions, hiring, firing, and any other management situations. All businesses, including food businesses are subject to social media claims by stakeholders and their opinion of the business. Other vulnerabilities include natural disasters, pandemics, terrorism or matters that may not be controlled. Jeni’s Ice Cream is an organization that will face all of these potential issues. It is imperative a strong crisis management plan be in place as well as the active practice of horizon scanning. If built into the company’s management practices, Jeni’s Ice Cream will be able to manage issues and keep crises to a minimum.
