College MENtality Series September 17th at 7:30PM On September 17th at 7:30PM in UC 233, Multicultural Student Affairs and Brothers Overcoming Negativity and Destruction will host “Giving You the Game.” This interactive program will engage your thoughts and opinions on what it means to be successful academically at UM. Diversity Networking Night September 18th at 6:00PM Multicultural Student Affairs and Toppel Career Center is providing you with an opportunity to meet and network with employers that are attending the Career Expo. This event will provide information on connecting with professionals and improving networking skills that will benefit you throughout your future careers. Nothing Less Than Academic Success September 26th at 5:00PM Multicultural Student Affairs is hosting “Nothing Less Than Academic Success” in Mahoney Master’s Apartment. This interactive program will focus on how to be successful during your academic career at UM. Representives from the Academic Resource Center (ARC)and the Academic and Career Advisors in Residence (ACARs) will be present. Light refreshments will be served. Hispanic Heritage Month 2013 Each year, the United States honors the contributions that Latinos have made to our country by celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th - October 15th). This year Multicultural Student Affairs and the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is hosting its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, which will feature many exciting events such as a discussion on Operation Pedro Pan, a lecture “Parabola optica”: Thinking about Modernism and Photography in Mexico, Salsa Dance Classes and much more! Opening Ceremonies for Hispanic Heritage Month takes place on the UC Rock on September 24th at 4:00PM. Make sure to stop by for great performances and light refreshments. MSA’s Book Loan Program Multicultural Student Affairs provides short-term book loans to African, Hispanic, Asian and Native American undergraduate students to assist with purchasing books at the beginning of each semester. The book loan program is funded by private donors who are interested in supporting the academic goals of students of color at the University of Miami. Seniors cannot apply for a book loan. In order to receive a book loan, you must meet the following criteria: Lewis Book Loan criteria: 1. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher 2. Must be a freshman or first semester transfer student 3. Read, complete form and sign agreement 4. Objective evidence of financial need as indicated by a copy of the students FAFSA 5. Ability to repay the loan within sixty (60) days 6. Good academic standing (not on any university probation) Citizen’s Board / William “Billy” Appelrouth Book Loan: 1. Cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 or higher 2. Must be a sophomore or junior 3. Read, complete form and sign agreement 4. Objective evidence of financial need as indicated by a copy of the students FAFSA 5. Ability to repay the loan within sixty (60) days 6.
