Primary Sport

Sport plays a major role in many of the students’ lives across JESS and for many, their love of sport starts in Primary. The aim of our Sporting programme is to discover and develop potential within students through practice, training, and competition Sport also develops confidence through physical, technical, and mental stimulus, and exposure to success and failure develops resilience.

At JESS, we pride ourselves on the number of opportunities available to represent the school through DASSA leagues, regional invitational tournaments, and international competitions. We operate a ‘Sport for All’ approach whereby all children are welcome to attend training for the main sports on offer each term during ECA sessions

Success might not always happen, but the willingness to work hard and to improve is always the aim Effort is simply the most important element for any boy or girl training or representing JESS.

‘Success does not lie in ‘Results’ but in ‘Efforts’, ‘Being’ the best is not so important, ‘Doing’ your best is what matters…’

Team Selection: All children are welcome to join our Sports ECAs Selection for a Sporting team is an ongoing process across the whole season, as such, players can be moved across teams and positions from week to week. The expectation is that pupils prioritise school sport for both training and fixture commitments should they wish to represent the school

Communication: Communication about team selection and fixture details are published on Fixtures Pro and on team sheets via the Games noticeboards in the Primary Courtyard We encourage our children to take responsibility and ensure that they are aware of dates, venues, and timings. In the event of an absence, injury or clash an email from parents outlining the reason should be presented. Under no circumstances should a message be passed on by another pupil

Fixtures: All pupils selected to represent the school are expected to be available for every fixture In exceptional circumstances unavailability should be discussed with the coach, giving as much notice as possible to avoid a team being short.

Timings: All start, and finish times will depend on several factors and can change. All information is published on Fixtures Pro (http://www jessranchessport com/) and on team sheets once the details are known.

Primary Performing Arts & Music

Performing Arts in JESS Primary places value on creativity and discovering brilliance in every one of our children. Performing Arts are an integral aspect of life at JESS and an area of our school that we have invested in and developed extensively over the past few years Children choosing performing arts ECAs can enhance their personal development and life skills in innumerable ways including gaining confidence and self-esteem, understanding effective collaboration and leadership.

Dance, Acrobatics and Drama opportunities continue to grow in popularity at JESS Primary. In addition to Dance lessons within curriculum time, we offer several Dance ECAs throughout the year for students to develop performance skills, techniques, and to explore their creativity

Our Music department provides opportunities for students of all ages to enjoy the benefits of learning an instrument. Our students have access to a highly qualified and experienced team of teachers who offer individual and group lessons. Whether studying for an ABRSM or Trinity exam, or playing just for fun, our teachers offer a tailored and structured programme to support students in their musical development.

Ensembles: WE are proud to offer a range of ensemble opportunities throughout the year including major concerts and productions both in and out of school, as well as smaller concerts, recitals and assemblies

Our Primary orchestra is our flagship ensemble that rehearses weekly and play a variety of repertoire from film music to classical and popular styles.

Choir: We have several choirs operating within our JESS Primary ECA programme to offer our children various opportunities to develop their skills and a love for singing and performing. Choir (Open to all abilities) and Chamber Choir (Selected) operate across all three terms in addition to other opportunities to sing throughout the year.

Creative food exploration and baking classes for young chefs

About our baking classes

In a fun and relaxed environment, the students will bond with new friends while mastering the art of baking. Each class offers a unique opportunity to learn a new recipe and baking techniques, food safety and hygiene, and develop essential life skills such as time management, problem-solving, and patience and focus.

As they create delicious treats, the students will gain a sense of pride and accomplishment that will boost their confidence both in and out of the kitchen.

We always bake several portions, so that the students get to share the results of their hard work with their family, we also share the recipes by email every week, so that the students get to recreate the recipes at home.
