Welcome to the Winter edition of Delivered.
I hope you are all well and looking forward to Christmas time.
In this edition of Delivered, we say a bonnie farewell to Niall McClure, Managing Director of Postal and Logistics, as he embarks on his retirement. We also discuss our business relationship with our international counterparts in a sit-down chat with Ray Legg, Head of International Regulations and Settlements.

As Christmas rapidly approaches and we fully embrace the festive season and all that it brings, we invite you to enjoy a compendium of short stories from colleagues about what Christmas means to them.
In Jersey, we recently celebrated our colleagues at our People Awards ceremony, where we recognised their outstanding contributions to our business. It was a great event, and we share highlights from the evening in this edition of Delivered. Our UK colleagues will have their People Awards ceremony in February, and we look forward to updating everyone on this in the New Year.
As the year has progressed, our People Strategy is fully developing within the Jersey Post Group, and you can read all about what initiatives have been put into place and which are upcoming for next year as we look at two of the committees that have been created as a part of the strategy. We’re also excited to announce our Chosen Charity 2023 and look forward to working with them in the year ahead.
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and hope that 2023 is filled with good health and happiness for all.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE DAY WORKING FOR JERSEY POST?

Every day here is memorable! I am fortunate to have a job that is very diverse and covers a large range of activities. When I come into the office every day I have no idea what issues – positive or negative – are going to arise and so each day is different and therefore memorable in its own way.
WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED THE MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME HERE?
Definitely the people. The operations staff are a great bunch of people – very diverse and all with different outlooks but who do a fantastic job, day and day out serving the population of Jersey. The managers work really hard and take everything that this industry throws at them in their stride. Everybody has their moments, but I can’t help but take my hat off to them for everything that they do. And my colleagues on the Exec are hugely supportive which is very important when you’ve got a job like mine. And, despite the many setbacks and bumps in the road along the way, I’ve had great fun working here.
OVER YOUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN LOGISTICS HAS THERE BEEN ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR THAT HAS TAKEN YOU BY SURPRISE OR CHALLENGED YOU IN WAYS THAT YOU DIDN’T EXPECT WHILST AT JERSEY POST?
I think everyone knows that I’m not from a postal background. When the opportunity to work at Jersey Post came along, I jumped at the chance to try a completely new industry to the property sector I had worked in all of my life. It was a ‘..and now for something completely different’ moment! And, my goodness, how different it has been! After my first two weeks at Jersey Post my head was bursting will all of the new stuff I was having to learn. So that was it. I knew it was going to be different but, boy, was I surprised at just how different it was!

I jumped at the chance to try a completely new industry to the property sector I had worked in all of my life.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE ACHIEVEMENT YOU HAVE FELT MOST PROUD OF WHILE WORKING AT JERSEY POST?
I guess that has to be working with everyone as a team to guide the business through the pandemic. At the beginning, we were making it up as we went along until all of the government guidance was written and published. I vividly remember the Exec meeting where, like all of the other government owned arm’s length companies, we had to estimate how long we could keep trading in a worst-case scenario of no revenue and no government subsidy. Probably one of the most difficult ‘exam questions’ I’ve ever had to answer.
But what happened is everyone came together as a team and all pulled in the same direction – the right direction as it happened – and we kept everyone safe, kept the business trading and helped keep the island going. It was an amazing experience looking back on it. I’m very proud to have been a part of that team.
WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT WORKING HERE?
Again, it’s got to be the people. And the variety. And the great fun. And….everything!
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR RETIREMENT?
Now that we can, my wife and I would like to travel. We’re fortunate enough to already have a trip to New Zealand followed by Western Australia arranged for March. And we’ll be swapping the sunny climes of Jersey for the fine Scottish weather that my home city of Glasgow has to offer. We’ve really enjoyed our 12 years in Jersey, but all of our close family are in the UK and it’s time to re-join them as we embark on our next adventure!
We would like to wish Niall all the best for a wonderful retirement!

At the beginning, we were making it up as we went along until all of the government guidance was written and published.

Staying ahead of the curve
The Universal Postal Union is a United Nations specialised agency and the postal sector’s primary forum for international cooperation. Established in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), with its headquarters in the Swiss capital, Berne, is the second oldest international organization worldwide.
As a postal operator, Jersey Post follows their lead with all postal regulations, as do our counterparts around the globe. With its 192 member countries, the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. In this way, the organization fulfils an advisory, mediating and liaison role, and provides technical assistance where needed. It sets the rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail, parcel and financial services volumes and improve quality of service for customers.
Jersey Post Group’s designated liaison with the UPU is Ray Legg, Head of International Regulations and Settlements. Delivered caught up with Ray on the behind-the-scenes workings of our International Administration Team. »
CAN YOU DESCRIBE FOR OUR READERS, A DAY IN YOUR SHOES AS HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS AND SETTLEMENTS?
My role is very busy and varied. I work with the rest of the team, Adam Le Bourgeois and Mary O’Driscoll, to handle all of the day-today business in relation to settlements and reconciliations in respect of our postal volume. This pertains to all of our UPU volume, not just from Jersey, but from all our Extraterritorial Office of Exchange routes (ETOEs), and all our clients that use UPU routes around the world so it’s quite a substantial part of the team’s role. I also assist Tracy Hayward, our Associate Director of International Service Delivery & Partnership with contract reviews for our ETOE routes. I look after the business’ relationship with the UPU and I’m the first point of call when it comes to new things that are going on in the UPU. I represent the business at regular UPU conferences with regards to our international operations. Another aspect of my role includes working closely with finance, looking at our liabilities and our accrual release. I also look after bilateral negotiations with different countries around the world with the aim of getting us the best possible rates on routes.
With my wider team, they are often unsung heroes, every item that comes in is managed and reconciled by our small team. To give some context around this, year-to-date we have processed approximately 7000 pieces of documentation. Naturally, every item that comes in, every bill, every piece of information, we’ll weigh up our figures and expectations versus what the receiving countries figures and expectations are; the figures don’t always tie up. Over the last few years, the team have negated significant charges to the business. I’d like to give a massive shout out to them! They are building up the global reputation of Jersey Post Group on an accounting, operational and processing level. What we’ve accomplished is largely down to them, they are a marvellous team.
THERE BEEN ANY CHANGES, OR ARE THERE ANY UPCOMING CHANGES, TO POSTAL REGULATIONS THAT JERSEY POST GROUP HAVE TO ADHERE TO?
There are potentially some very interesting times coming up in the UPU. In 2023, there will be an Extraordinary Congress in Saudi Arabia to decide on plans for opening up the UPU to wider postal sector players (WPSPs). As an intergovernmental organization, the UPU’s membership has traditionally been restricted to government entities and postal operators designated by governments – also known as designated operators. However, the sector has broadened, with many non-designated operators entering the market and taking on the bulk of new business opportunities such as parcels and express services. Postal operators also need to work with many other wider postal sector players across the supply chain, such as transport and customs partners.
There are currently numerous UPU task forces working at the minute who are looking at opening that up even further, and potentially including wider sector players into more UPU related initiatives, perhaps even as far as price and structures. But it’s all very much a work in progress and will be discussed further at the Extraordinary Congress. Naturally, if this is passed it has the potential for large implications depending on how the structure works and could enable us to evolve our product offering further.
They are building up the reputation of Jersey Post Group on an accounting, operational and processing level.
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATION TEAM’S ROLE WITHIN THE BUSINESS?
HAVE
PART OF YOUR ROLE IS TO REPRESENT THE BUSINESS REGULARLY AT INTERNATIONAL POSTAL EVENTS, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE BENEFITS OF THESE EVENTS TO THE BUSINESS?

Whilst we do have a regulatory obligation to attend these events in compliance with the UPU, I would say the international events are very beneficial to the business as they are a great opportunity to build up brand relationships for Jersey Post on a global level.
As a postal operator we need to know first-hand what’s going on policy wise so that we can essentially stay a step ahead of the game. By attending the events in person, not only do you get the ability to attend all the different conferences and get an understanding of any changes, which enables us to proactively start working towards them, but the global members also attend, so you get a valuable understanding as to what the global atmosphere or appetite is for potential changes within the industry. It builds up the reputation for Jersey Post, even though we are a small island authority, as a business we have a high standing within the UPU. Jersey Post is part of six expert teams within in the UPU that are involved in reviewing potential regulatory changes. The UPU is a member driven structure, not an autocracy and expert teams are built to look at different initiatives. Any task forces are all built of expert volunteers from the different member states that, say, let’s get together, and the we get the opportunity to collaborate with postal operatives from the likes of France, US, Canada, Spain etc, who all work in conjunction. In doing so, we then have the opportunity evolve any policies.
Attendance at these international conferences plays an important part in building the business’s reputation of being a visibly active member and knowledgeable player within the industry. The most obvious benefit is the face-to-face discussions you can have with delegates from all over the world who are high up in the industry. In turn, this builds relationships for the business and opens up opportunities for us. For example, already for 2023 we have secured bilateral options which have helped give us reduced rates going forward. It’s a level of interaction you can’t get in a phone call or an email, effectively your relationship building with various country authorities.
I was once an avid gamer myself, but don’t often get the time these days.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THE MARKET OUTLOOK IS LIKE AT PRESENT?
Market outlook at present is challenging but it’s challenging globally, so whilst that’s not ideal, it is reassuring that it isn’t just impacting us. We have to take into account the reasoning behind this. Over the last few years the industry has had to contend with COVID-19, war in Ukraine, shortage of drivers. Any uncertainty in the markets will obviously impact our customers, and likewise this has a knock-on effect on the business. While it is a hurdle for us to overcome, we must look where we have opportunities ahead. We do a lot of business with ADS, so we will be looking at opportunities there. Although that isn’t my area, I know Tracy has plans in place to look at what other alternatives are out there to build business on going forward.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FUNNIEST/ MOST MEMORABLE/ MOST SURPRISING DAY WORKING FOR JERSEY POST?
Probably the most memorable time so far, in respect of how busy it was, would be going back a few years, when I worked in finance and operations within Jersey Post before taking up my current role. I looked after the route schedules for all our posties. I remember there was an initiative around called the World Host Training Programme, which every Jersey Post employee in the business had to go through, all in a very short period of time. I had to juggle every post round and ensure it was covered to free up the posties to attend the courses, it was certainly a challenge and it’s safe to say the experience of trying to manage the scheduling stayed with me. It was an important training course though and we managed to get everybody on it and as a result it did a lot of good for the business, so a worthwhile endeavour!
WHEN YOU ARE NOT BUSY WITH ALL THINGS JERSEY POST RELATED, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
My main priority is spending time with my wife and daughter. My daughter is six and likes to keep me on my toes. I also moonlight as a games developer for an indie based studio in the US, trying to make and sell games for them, it’s an exciting side-line for me. I was once an avid gamer myself, but don’t often get the time these days. I also enjoy streaming a good show on Netflix for some down time.

JERSEY STAMPS
On 14 November Jersey Stamps issued a beautiful set of Festive Icons stamps. Christmas is celebrated around the world with many different events and traditions. Memories of this special time are often interwoven with specific music, art, decorations and imagery. This stamp issue highlights eight festive icons and how they became so intrinsically linked to Christmas.
Stamp One – Snowflake

For many, Christmas is synonymous with snow, be it notions of building snowmen and throwing snowballs or romantic ideas of sipping hot chocolate whilst snow falls outside. The anticipation as to whether it will snow on Christmas Day begins early in December and is a sentiment echoed by the song ‘White Christmas’, famously sung by Bing Crosby. Interestingly, according to the Met Office, a white Christmas is when just one single snowflake is seen to fall on Christmas Day somewhere in the UK.
Stamp Two – Bells Bells have long been associated with Christmas. A symbol of joy, they are traditionally rung to announce the arrival of Christmas and the birth of Christ. Sleigh bells have also come to be linked with Christmas as in the carol ‘Jingle Bells’ / ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’ and the beloved Christmas song ‘Winter Wonderland’ whose famous opening line asks: ‘Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?’
Stamp Three - Wreath
Traditionally made from evergreen foliage such as holly, laurel and pine, the wreath is a symbol of continuous life. For Christians, this is representative of eternal life through Christ, whilst the wreath’s circular shape, with no beginning and no end, is representative of God. For others, the circular wreath signifies the cycle of the seasons, giving hope of spring and new life in the depths of winter.
Stamp Four - Bauble
Early Christmas trees were decorated with dried fruits and nuts. This evolved into baubles in the late 1840s in Germany, when a man called Hans Greiner started to produce glass ornaments in the shape of fruits and nuts. These eventually became more spherical in shape.
Stamp Five - Robin
Whilst robins can be spotted all year round, these bonnie little birds have become intrinsically linked with Christmas. This could hark back to the red uniforms of Victorian postmen. Given the nickname ‘robin redbreast’, people would eagerly await Christmas cards from their local ‘robin’. An alternative theory is that 2000 years ago, a small brown bird fanned the flames of a fire to keep the baby Jesus warm. Embers from the fire scorched its tiny chest, giving the bird its red breast.
Stamp Six - Angel
The Angel Gabriel, or the Christmas Angel, is an important figure in the Biblical story of the nativity of Jesus. A messenger of God, the Angel Gabriel is sent to tell the Virgin Mary that she will give birth to the son of God, Jesus Christ.
Stamp Seven – Star
The star is perhaps one of the most recognisable symbols of Christmas. According to the Biblical story of the nativity of Jesus, the Star of Bethlehem guided the three wise men to the baby Jesus. Another star which features at Christmas is the North Star which shines over the North Pole and is said to guide Father Christmas’ sleigh.
Stamp Eight – Christmas Tree

The tradition of decorating a tree at Christmas was made popular in Britain in the mid-19th century by German-born Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. The Victorian Christmas tree was decorated with toys and small gifts, candles, sweets, ribbons and paper chains.

WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?
Christmas is upon us and at Jersey Post Group, whilst we’ve been as busy as Santa’s elves, we also want to take a moment to reflect on what Christmas means to everyone. Each and every team member at Jersey Post has a different take on the festive season, whether it’s as simple as enjoying an extra few days rest and relaxation, or having a big get together with family and friends, or even if you’re more excited about getting through the busy season and partying at New Year, we invited our colleagues to share what Christmas means to them.
Please read the wonderfully heartfelt responses as we embrace the festive season…

Christmas immediately brings to mind family, lots of shopping, and great food! I love the hustle and bustle and the anticipation that leads up to Christmas. I think you can almost feel the atmosphere change and buzz with excitement of what’s to come. Festive shop window scenes start popping up along the high street, the Christmas lights are draped throughout St Helier and the always emotive Christmas televisions adverts start gracing our TV screens, embracing the underlying meaning of the festivities.
I feel that Christmas time is the one time of year where you intrinsically become reflective of the year gone by, of the ups the downs, and it allows us to take a moment just to take stock of what matters most in our lives, to remember our priorities and cherish the time that we have with our loved ones. In such a busy world with everyone feeling the weight of different demands pulling them in all directions, Christmas gives a sense of stillness to just be content in the moment, a real rarity! I love getting an excuse to spoil my son and daughter, my priority is always ensuring the kids enjoy it, particularly the down time where we’re not rushing from one place to another and generally just time together. For me, Christmas is a fun and truly comforting time of year, to just reflect and enjoy your blessings.
Hamon, Marketing ManagerChristmas is about spending time with family and friends and having fun.
Elcombe,Industrial Engineer ManagerSpending precious time with my family and friends.
Jane Balducci, Sales DirectorChristmas is a beautiful celebration of love, peace, and joy to round off each year. It is a time to slow down, look back at the past twelve months and celebrate with my loved ones. A time to express my gratitude; for the birth of Jesus, and for my family and friends who helped me through the tough times and made the good times special.
Rebekah Matheson, Philatelic Research & Marketing ExecutiveI adore Christmas. The build up is the best bit. Wrapping up in hats, scarves and gloves and wandering around a bustling Christmas market whilst sipping a cup of mulled wine, twinkly lights everywhere. Chocolate advent calendars. The John Lewis Christmas advert. Agonising over the Christmas tree, choosing one that’s too big, somehow wedging it between the seats of the car making the kids giggle in the back and then breathing in the scent of pine all the way home whilst singing along to Mariah Carey, Chris Rea and Slade. Getting all teary eyed at the school nativity play. Real life Love Actually airport scenes when reuniting with my family in Yorkshire.
Then Christmas Day and that magical look of disbelief and joy on my boys’ faces as they discover their stockings and open their presents from Santa. Wrapping paper everywhere.

Christmas food is immense! Pigs in blankets, honey roasted parsnips, cranberry sauce, cheese boards, Christmas cake, chocolate oranges, more cheese, gammon, leftover turkey sandwiches. And yes, I love brussel sprouts.
Watching Christmas films in PJs in front of the fire. (Unpopular Christmas opinion: I’m not mad about Elf.) Not knowing (or caring) what time or day it is. Quality Streets and mince pies for breakfast. Games and hot chocolates and staying in PJs all day. Enjoying uninterrupted time with my family with nothing to do and nowhere to be.
Rachel MacKenzie, Philatelic Marketing ManagerThe start of Christmas for me was Christmas Eve my whole family, going back generations put wreaths on our family graves and ring the bells at St Peter’s Church which my family, husband and children still do. As a child Christmas Eve was very busy for my mum and dad, preparing the veg and the turkey we always put the turkey in overnight something we don’t do now. We use to always have family time and my dad always played the accordion, then when it was time for bed my siblings and myself use to leave a glass of milk, mince pie and carrot for Father Christmas and Rudolf.
In the early hours of the morning I used to wake my sister and brother up and say “has he been?” but he hadn’t since it was only 2am. We then woke up again at 5 when he had been and we were all so excited, the mince pie was half eaten and the milk gone and the carrot gone. That’s when we knew it was really Santa. We woke up mum and dad and said, ‘Mummy, Daddy, he’s been he must of thought I was a good girl.’
I really miss those precious moments, but still today apart from putting the turkey in overnight, we still do the same things after work, visit graves, bell ringing and prepare the veg and listen or sing our Christmas songs. The song we always sing in the car is the Christmas song; C is for the Candy trim around the Christmas tree, H is for the happiness with all the family, R is for the reindeers prancing but the window pane, I is for the icing on the cake as sweet as sugar, S is for the stockings hanging on the wall, T is for the toy’s that make the tree so tall, M is for the mistletoe where everyone is kissed, A is for the angels that make up the Christmas list and S is for old Santa that makes every kid his pet, if you be good you will get everything in the Christmas alphabet! And when Santa got stuck up the chimney! We are all adults now but act like kids.

It means a moment of pause, reflection on the year just gone and quality uninterrupted time with loved ones. Christmas is the one time a year where you gather with no other agenda than to spread love and happiness, and that is so special to me. To see their smiling faces after a cheeky breakfast bucks fizz knowing the plan for the day is to just sit back, eat and be merry is just magical!

PEOPLE STRATEGY IN ACTION

Jersey Post Group’s people strategy is all about investing our employees, investing in their happiness, in their employee experience, and in their growth. By investing in colleagues, it helps to keep up engagement in work and enjoyment within the business resulting in a host of positive outcomes for the Group. Since the last edition of Delivered, many steps have been taken to progress our People Strategy.»

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDERS

As part of the initiative Jersey Post Group offered Mental Health First Aid Training to employees. Each year approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition and at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace. Research has shown that work is the biggest cause of stress which can stop people performing at their best. Mental health conditions are often hidden due to stigma and fear of discrimination and research has shown that a culture of fear and silence surrounds mental health. To combat this Jersey Post Group has taken action to help promote a positive culture around mental health. Several of our colleagues have taken part in training to give them the knowledge and understanding required to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers.
The individuals below are available to chat with and offer guidance on the best route for support. Please feel free to say hello to them if you seem them around the business!

SUPPORTING OUR COLLEAGUES, IMPROVING OUR CULTURE AND CARING FOR THE COMMUNITY
As the development of our people strategy continues, three committees that have been developed as part of the strategy, including the Wellbeing Committee, Charity Committee and a Learning and Development Committee. Each of these committees has been hard at work putting procedures in place and making plans for 2023.
Delivered takes a closer look at two of the Jersey Post Group committees.

WELLBEING COMMITTEE

Our Wellbeing Committee was formed as a result of feedback from our 2021 colleague survey, and have been hard at work prioritising ways to enhance colleague wellbeing. This includes the launch of the wellbeing room back in September and number of inditiatives to follow in 2023.

CHARITY COMMITTEE
Your Charity Committee has been created to drive charitable events in aid of Jersey Post’s annual chosen charity. Since their start in September, they have already organised the Halloween/Autumn Bake Off, Christmas Party and People Awards Raffle (Jersey), Christmas Decorate Your Desk Competition and Christmas Jumper Day, all in aid of Mind Jersey, Jersey Post’s Chosen Charity 2022.
Alongside these events, in October the committee took charge of the selection process for Chosen Charity 2023 and announced four shortlisted charities vying for the title. The committee invited each of the shortlisted charities in to Postal HQ to give a talk to colleagues about their organisations.

Each of charities gave an insightful talk informing us about the work that they do locally and what they hope to achieve with support from Jersey Post. THE FOUR SHORTLISTED CHARITIES WERE:
• Jersey Child Care Trust

• Wetwheels Jersey
• NSPCC Jersey
AND THE WINNER IS….
Whilst all of the charities were fantastic and are truly worthwhile, we can only support one charity each year. With that in mind, it was put to a company-wide vote in November and we are excited to announce the winner was Jersey Child Care Trust

Jersey Child Care Trust’s vision is that every child should be able to access the nurture, care and learning they need to thrive. Putting families first, they deliver a variety of programmes to enable all children to have their best start in life. In particular, their work focuses on enabling access for all, tackling poverty and improving quality of life for children and families. Because of Jersey Child Care Trust, children with disabilities can go to nursery and their focus on eradicating childhood poverty means that they support local children who need help the most, when it matters most.
In 2023, the Charity Committee will be arranging a variety of sociable and fun events in aid of this wonderful charity.

LISA STUBBS
Eastern Manager

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I manage the Eastern delivery team in Operations at Jersey Post. My daily duties include making sure all the rounds are covered, working alongside my colleague who covers the Western deliveries in the Island. Working with the AM processing team, I ensure the special deliveries arriving on the morning plane are despatched for delivery the same day. I make sure all delivery teams have what they need for their duty that day and that they are out on the road at a good time to ensure the customer has their items that day, whether that is a birthday card or an Amazon order, or even their dinner from Hello Fresh. After all delivery teams are on the road, the paperwork and office work starts.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
I am based at Rue des Pres sorting office.

HOW WOULD YOU SUM UP A DAY IN THE LIFE OF OPERATIONS?
Some days can be challenging, especially when we have bad weather, and the boats are delayed or even cancelled. We work at fast pace for a few hours in the morning it’s all about the clock.
Everyday is a new beginning and a chance to start again.
Everyday is a new beginning and a chance to start again.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR ROLE?
Being present for the delivery teams. It’s also important to be approachable and be able to listen when needed.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
I am excited and motivated to be working on the Wellbeing Committee and I’ve become one of many Mental Health First Aiders for Jersey Post.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
Over the years I have been given a lot of good advice from many people in and outside work. I think the last piece of advice that has stayed with me is ‘You got this!’ which was something a really close friend wrote in a book she gave me as I started a personal journey earlier this year.
TEA OR COFFEE? Coffee these days.
FAVOURITE TV SERIES OR MOVIE AND WHY?
My favourite TV series, being honest now, is Eastenders, I guess because I have watched it from the very first episode which was with my mum.

PROUD PARTNERS OF THE Pride of Jersey Awards
Jersey Post prides itself on keeping Islander’s connected with each other, and the wider world. On a daily basis our posties in Jersey are out talking to and assisting the public. We value the Island community and being part of the Pride of Jersey awards is a great way for us to show our appreciation to the people of Jersey.
We were thrilled to attend the awards ceremony on 22 September at Le Manoir de Rooster on Trinity Hill, the home of potato exporter Albert Bartlett. The evening was hosted by storyteller and comedian John Henry Falle and soprano Georgi Mottram. It was a wonderful event, celebrating truly awe-inspiring individuals who do good within our Island community.
As partners for the event, Niall McClure, Managing Director for Postal & Logistics gave a speech to introduce the awards and explain why Jersey Post’s community ethos makes us such great fit as sponsors for the awards. During the event, JEP editor Andy Sibcy paid tribute to all the winners and finalists for the ‘inspirational and amazing contribution’ they have made to Island life.
At Jersey Post, we feel it is vital to recognise individuals who do good in the community as they help to foster a positive culture within the Island. Jersey has an amazing community spirit and it is something that should be celebrated, it is part of what makes the Island a wonderful place to live. Individuals who do good in the community encourage kindness and shape a sense of togetherness within the Island, as such their actions should be recognised. In today’s fast-paced digital world, these awards remind everyone that they are part of something bigger within the wider community.

WELLBEING AND TRAINING ROOMS OFFICIALLY OPEN AT POSTAL HQ!
The brand new training and wellbeing rooms officially opened for business at Postal Headquarters in Jersey on Wednesday 28 September. The wellbeing and training room launches were celebrated with cupcakes and smoothies for all colleagues at the Rue des Pres. It was great to see everyone gather together to mark the opening and take a moment to catch up with colleagues from around the business.
WELLBEING ROOM
The wellbeing room is a calm and quiet space to take a few moments respite. It is a space to use if you feel things are getting too much, a quiet and calm environment to take a moment, to talk to your manager, a member of HR or a Mental Health First Aider. Ideally the room would be booked in advance, but we understand this won’t always be possible depending on the circumstances. This room is also a great space for all the upcoming initiatives we will be introducing such as corporate offers with clinicians and qualified counsellors.

The room has been put to great use already with a visit from The Wellness Centre on 3 October. Dr Andrea Luckhurst, DC BSc/ (Hons) MSc. (Chiro) will be came in to Postal HQ to offer all colleagues a pre-consultation health screenings in which she offered advice on concerns in relation to musculoskeletal problems. There will be more of these fantastic initiatives in 2023.
TRAINING ROOM

The training room is a bright and airy space perfect for training sessions. Equipped with everything you need for learning and development this is a great space to share knowledge with colleagues. Several training events have already taken place or are booked for future dates, including Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace, Psychological Safety in Teams and Interviewing Skills. If you would like to book the training room for any upcoming training, or want to know more about upcoming learning and development courses, please contact HR.
We hope you will all take advantage of both of these brilliant new spaces going forward.
JPGL at WMX Asia
JPGL was a premium sponsor of the World Mail and Express Asia Conference (WMX) in Bangkok 18 – 20 September 2022. To represent the business David McGrath, Group Marketing Director and Sonia Ferri, Senior Marketing Manager attended the conference at Bangkok Marriott Hotel.

The World Mail & Express Asia Conference brings together some of the brightest minds in the delivery industry providing JPGL with the opportunity to connect with top post and parcel executives and build key relationships to drive the business forward, whilst also gaining industry insight.

At the conference David was a moderator for a group discussion on ‘How are emerging technologies changing the delivery game?’. The panel discussed the application of cutting-edge technologies across the postal network, from APIs, data analytics to IoTs, and the speakers discussed how their innovative electric and automated delivery approaches are paving the way towards a more efficient eCommerce supply chain.

Posties on the run!
We would like to say a huge congratulations to two of our posties, Jon Coote and James Oliver who took part in the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon on 2 October 2022.
They both did extremely well, with James completing the marathon at 02:44:06 and Jon competing it in 03:57:36. James came 5th overall so, huge congratulations!
Jon was an avid runner years ago and this marathon was his first in over 12 years. He said of the event, “It was great, the last five miles were particularly challenging as I pulled a muscle and had to walk the remainder, but it was still a great feeling crossing the finish line”.
The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is a well-known marathon. The race, which is split into three categories, Marathon, Relay Race and Marathon Mile regularly attracts over 2,500 runners, with over 50% of marathon runners coming from off-island.
The event starts and finishes in the ‘Weighbridge’ area, in the heart of St Helier. Crossing the finish line in Jersey is a special occasion, and with large crowds, runners receive a thunderous reception as they complete the course.
JPGL raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support
On 12 October our UK teams hosted a Macmillan coffee morning to raise vital funds for cancer support.
We are excited to announce that between all UK locations (Fareham Reach, Quadra Point & London Hub) they managed to raise over £200! In addition to this, colleagues at Fareham Reach also held an open auction beauty product donations to raise further funds.

Big thank you to Lauren Smith, Michelle Elcombe and Leanne Fay who were the driving force in making this happen.
Thanks to the powers of Facebook and the Jersey Evening Post, a grandad in the UK will be getting his birthday card from his grandchildren Luke and Evie!
The father of the children had accidentally posted the card in Jersey without realising that the address hadn’t been correctly added to the envelope.
Postie Steve Palmer, who knew the father, managed to get the address from him so that we could send the card and money to the Grandad in the UK.

Huge thanks also to Chris, who appeared in the JEP article to help get the message out about the unaddressed card to Grandad!

2023 Postal Price Changes
We will be amending our Jersey Post postal rates from 1 January 2023. The changes will see a 4p increase for local letters and a 6p increase in the price of sending to the UK, Isle of Man, and other Channel Islands. The changes to key stamp prices are summarised below:
Local Letter (100g) 56p 60p UK, IOM and other CI Letter (100g) 82p 98p
European letter (100g) £1.20 £1.85
Rest of World letter (100g) £1.75 £2.55 The price changes continue to reflect the internal and external cost increases that Jersey Post continues to face, including outbound mail decline, increased operating costs, continued investment and cost of living increase.

A
Congratulations to Nikki Fryer, HR Partner who completed the 26.2 miles of the Virtual London Marathon on 2 October 2022.
Nikki found the last 0.2 of a mile the toughest as she thought she was done at 26! Despite all kinds of weather being thrown at Nikki, including wind and hail, she finished in 8 hours and 34 minutes.
Nikki walked with her daughter Honey on her chosen route to raise money for Jersey Employment Trust and Acorn.
Well done, Nikki!

Jersey Employment Trust aids Jersey Post at Christmas peak!
Jersey Post is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion and this year we have employed five of Jersey Employment Trust’s (JET) clients to get us through the busiest period of the year.
Every year we take on several of JET’s clients to help them with the Christmas demand. Our relationship with JET goes back as far as 2006 and on average five clients are accommodated each Christmas, but in 2020, that peaked at 12 in the midst of the pandemic.
Robyn Pestana, HR Partner says: ‘JET is always our first pick for recruiting Christmas casual staff. In a short space of time, our casual staff can develop various skills and we give them manual handling training, which they can carry forward to other jobs.

And you never know when it might lead to a permanent role. We have offered fixed-term and permanent roles to JET clients in the past and now we are looking into offering some more admin work too.
We really appreciate the seasonal help from JET. We wouldn’t be able to do Christmas without you guys.’
Jersey Employment Trust was formed in 2002 with the aim of making employment and vocational training more accessible to people with disabilities.JET is always our first pick for recruiting Christmas casual staff.

WORLD POST DAY

On Friday 7 October our Jersey colleagues celebrated World Post Day early by thanking our wonderful posties and colleagues for all their hard work and dedication with a celebratory cake!

Each year there is a different theme for World Post Day and this year it is #PostForPlanet. This is to highlight how national postal services can take a lead in mitigating climate change and to bring awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global, social and economic development.
For Jersey Post, with over 60% of our fleet fully electric and many more climate change initiatives forming within the company, we are continuing to strive to become a more environmentally conscious company every day!
We would like to thank each and every one of our colleagues for all the hard work you do, and we hope you enjoyed your treat today both in Jersey and across the pond in the UK too.
Here are a few of our Jersey colleagues enjoying their cake on the day.
Charity Halloween Bake Off!
On 31 October, several of our Jersey colleagues tested their baking skills and produced some creative cakes for our charity Halloween Bake Off hosted by our Charity Committee.
In aid of Mind Jersey, the cakes were judged by Mark Siviter for a chance to win in three different categories and then sold in the canteen for all to enjoy!

It was wonderful to see the variety of bakes and the ingenuity that went into the designs. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who took part.
