#1 - Help

First Fish

Over the Labor Day weekend I joined my daughters family camping trip. They had forgotten my granddaughter Rowan’s fishing pole, so I stopped at Bi-Mart and picked up the $19.99 kids special. Thinking there was no chance of catching anything with the water so low, it would be a good time for her and sister Metztli to practice casting.

I arrived Saturday afternoon by street bike to find them camping above Rimrock with what I guess was Cold Creek close by.

We broke out the fishing pole and gave the girls a quick lesson in casting, with plenty of time to practice bouncing the line off trees and rocks around the campground. The entire family then went to the creek to make the casting a little more authentic. We were told by a group of kids at the stream that there were no fish in it. None at all!

Rowan cast out a few times, getting it stuck in the logs in the stream. Then she got it dialed in and hit a pool right off the end of the logs. And what do you know, the bobber goes under. We hadn’t bothered talking about reeling in fish so she got a crash course and landed a 12” trout. Metztli, who at age 3 has decided she’s vegetarian, was ready with rock in hand to help her sister quickly dispatch the fish.

Rowan then returned to fishing and caught another fish of equal size. These were her first fish ever. Last year we did some fishing off the dock at Millersylvania near Olympia but ended up feeding the minnows. Rowan and the rest of her family weren’t a fan of eating the fish so, Jordan and I took care of that for them.

A few weeks later at school the students were asked what they were good at. Rowan answered, “Fishing!!”

Getting a good deal on furniture is great, but having to put it together and then deal with all of the packaging afterwards can be a buzz kill. That’s where Jerrol’s comes in.

Recently Ellensburg High School gave us a call because they needed more than 200 chairs for a good price, but they did not want to deal with the hassle of assembly or deal with the mountain of packaging that would be left over after 200+ chairs were put together.

We love situations like this, because we know we can easily help! Jessica Bacon got a quote to the high school right away. Once they approved it, we ordered the chairs and as soon as they arrived, we were ready with the forklift to load them into our new box truck, which makes it easy for us to handle these types of large orders.

Next, Jessica scheduled a crew from our Business Direct team to gather at the school and put the chairs together.

Once everything was assembled, we put the chairs in place in the classrooms. Then, we hauled away all of the packaging and took it to be recycled.

Corrie’s Craft of the Month

No Carve Pumpkins

Seattle artist Barbara Pirro is hosting a FREE Virtual lecture and demonstration Discover the possibilities of Acrylic Color!

This event focuses on Golden's vast array of Acrylic Paints. Gain a broad understanding of each paint line and the unique qualities each offers. Barbara will also include the specialty paint lines; the Interference & Iridescent Colors. She will share insight about transparency vs opacity, Mineral vs Modern colors, color wheels & the Virtual Color Mixer.

Barbara will also discuss how to modify the paint to change drying time, sheen & texture using Golden Mediums & Gels. All of these acrylic products can be applied to a range of substrates such as paper, canvas, or wood panels. And so much more.

She will share several samples, techniques and answer questions during the event. A class summary and images will be provided afterwards so that artists can continue their exploration independently.

Pumpkin decorating season is upon us. Here is an easy way to make a beautiful pumpkin with absolutely no pumpkin mess!

Here is what you'll need:

Pumpkin

Modge Podge

Brush/Sponge

Tissue Paper

Scissors

1. Cut a small hole in the middle of your tissue paper for the stem of your pumpkin to fit through.

2. Using your brush/sponge cover the top half of your pumpkin with Modge Podge.

3. Lay your tissue paper on the pumpkin and gently smooth down over the Modge Podge. Wrinkles and creases are fine.

4. Lean your pumpkin over on its side and do the same thing on the bottom half, cutting any excess tissue paper with your scissors. Cover any gaps with more tissue paper.

5. Let dry and enjoy.

6. You can also do this with wrapping paper or paper napkins (peal off the white layers first).
