For all the players out there that don’t complain about not starting, this ones for you!!! Andre Iguodala waited till game 4 of the NBA Finals to get the nod as a starter from Head Coach Steve Kerr. He did what any NBA talent would do, he showed his worth. “I just want to thank God & all the NBA Chaplains for what they did for us all season”, Andre said following his game 6 performance. Andre is the 2015 NBA Finals MVP but he is also the Vice President of the NBA Players Union assisting all players in the league.

his swag as an avid car buff. All the rides in his garage come with a unique flare and attitude. so his 2014 Mercedes g-Wagon has what it takes. From the street view, the flat black whispers “what is this”, but then the Red Brembo calipers hit you over the head. one can only admire DeMar’s stylish approach. Just like his basketball game, he is not afraid to pull the jumper in the customizing world.

HUMAN HIGHLIGHT

on March 5th, 2015 one of the NBA’s top 50 players of all time received the ultimate gift, a statue. Dominique Wilkins was born to score the basketball, like few others in history. he could get buckets in transition, with his back to the basket, off of iso’s, coming off picks, however you wanted to use him. he would pull up for a jumper,

16 16

Champions Basketball Network | June 2015 | 1st Edition

springing halfway to the ceiling to shoot over any defender. he would pump fake and dunk on anyone who tried to get in the way. if he had size on you, he’d back you down on the left block (as long as he could beat Kevin Willis to that side while the offense was setting up). he was also an aboveaverage free throw shooter (81 percent for his career) who knew how to get to the line regularly. As his career went along, his jump shot became more and more accurate. Between 1984 and 1993, Nique averaged 28.2 points

per game. Midway through the 1991-92 season, while averaging 28.1 ppg, Dominique ruptured his Achilles tendon. he returned eight months later and played 71 games for the hawks in 92-93, and averaged 29.9 ppg. Nique was known for his dunking, but if you think of Wilkins as only a dunker, you’re missing the point.

The points were the prose; the dunks were the punctuation.

Well if steve Kerr can return the Warriors to the NBA playoffs, i suppose Alvin gentry can return the glory to the New orleans Pelicans. Another former NBA head coach officially has returned! Alvin gentry arguably one of the best coaches in Phoenix suns history

@PelicansNBA 24 24

looks to bring his high octane offense to a city with a future NBA MvP in Anthony Davis. Alvin gentry had his 1st NBA head coaching debut while with the Detroit Pistons in 1999. he was hired as the head coach of the Phoenix suns in 2009 and led them to the Western Conference finals in 2010.

Most NBA coaches have deep roots in the game of basketball, Alvin’s roots are blood thick his cousin is hall of famer David thompson who played for the Atlanta hawks. Also his former college head coach at Appalachian state was “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s Dad.

Many didn’t think it was possible for yet another face to be run alongside timmy D in san Antonio, but young Kawhi leonard has not only become a key player for Coach Pop he’s become “the guy”. san Antonio has been doing this for so long i truly don’t know why we continue to be surprised. Finding gems in unexpected places e.g. tony Parker 28th pick, and Manu ginobili 57th pick, this is just what they do. they scout incredibly well and develop what they have. Kawhi is the 2015 Defensive Player of the Year and has risen from a great secondary act to the lead role in a two year span. While winning the Finals MvP is nice, becoming the new face of a stable franchise is another thing completely.

DEFENsivE PlAYER

2015

if the spurs are able to lock Kawhi up for the foreseeable future they could continue their run of retooling on the fly as the Big 3 begin to step away.championships and the spurs are well on their way to another Finals run in 2015 and beyond.

OF THE YEAR

the craziest thing about Kawhi, is that he has seamlessly fit in to a veteran mentality, taking maintenance rest days, sacrificing personal stats (minutes) for team glory, he gets it. At the end of the day it’s about winning. @kawhileonard 24 26
