e begin year five with traditions that continue to bring each of us together. Some say we’re prideful. Heck yeah we are... But we gotta few reasons why.

It’s the little things we do that set us apart... We make posters for the football games, compete for the spirit stick at pep rallies, give each other two claps and a roar for a birthday, participate in class surprises during class, and go all out for dress up days.

It’s the way we learn a thing or two each day... We practice real world skills in class, discuss relevant topics, tutor each other, wear VR goggles, have mock trials for book characters.

It’s the things we do together...

We have booths at the community pep rally, meet new people in clubs, donate to different charities, come together to perform at the Winter Festival, work to get 100 service hours.

It’s the fact that as lions, winning is our thing... We run out of a smoke filled lion at football games, go to baseball games at midnight, send our players off to State, eat team dinners, have teacher appreciation nights for each sport.

It’s how we are always finding things out about each other. We get perfect scores on the ACT, start our own businesses, volunteer for events, travel the world, and prepare for our future.

It’s all these things that make us a part of the pride. Let’s face it...

A NEW DECADE

Due to extreme heat conditions there were many disastrous wildfires in Australia. As of Jan. 2020 fatalities rose to 800 people and millions of animals. The fires pose as a major threat to the continents wildlife as well as peoples livelihood.

Many of those on social media spread the word as well as donating money toward disaster relief.

The ninth and alleged final movie of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released on December 20, 2019. It made a total $1.031 billion in box office sales and had fans all around the world talking about the ending and possible spin off movies that are sure to be made in the future.

On December 31, 2019 the last day of the 2010s ended and the first day of the 20’s began. Many celebrated by going to Time’s Square and watching as the infamous ball dropped to a countdown. An estimated one million people were in the square to bring in a new decade with many family and friends.

In January 2020 it became a major topic of conversation due to the outbreak in China. The disease rapidly spread around the world. Soon there were few cases in the US, sparking fears. MAMBA FOREVER On Jan. 26, NBA player Kobe Bryant, 41, and daughter Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant, 13, died due to a tragic accident in Calabasas, California. The pair was headed to the young girl’s basketball game in a helicopter when the aircraft began to descend from the sky, eventually crashing into a hill, killing nine people. By blowing bubbles onto each other, AP Biology students demonstrated cohesion, the process where water sticks to water. “Since I took Biology my freshman year, this lesson went more in depth with the stuff we learned previously,” Reese said.

New teaching strategies help young scientist discover the answers by practicing problem solving skills

he science department has been working to accommodate students to help them absorb as much information as possible each year. This year, the department introduced a new concept called Argument Driven Inquiries, or ADI. “ADI is a little bit more inquiry driven, so it presents the problem to the students for them to investigate rather than giving them the answers,” physics teacher Mrs. Kristin Gonzales-Vega said.

“AP Biology is doing it right now, where students develop an argument about what affects cellular respiration rates and they have to create their own experiment.”

Along with ADI, teachers are switching to more online activities and submissions for assignments and projects to decrease our environmental impact. AP Chemistry

Varsity soccer continues to grow a successful program

T

his year’s soccer season has been one for the books.

Built of seven freshmen, two sophomores, five juniors, and three seniors, this team has been through it all. No matter how they perform on the field, their bond off the field remains strong.

“This season has been tough for all us with all of the injuries we’ve had,” Sydney Reeves, 11 said. “But together we continue to persevere and work through our challenges.”

One of the team’s best performances this season was against Centennial on Jan. 24 when Hayley Bloch, 9 carried the team with a hat trick in their 3-1 win.

tradition well-known in our varsity football program, running out of the lion and onto the field has provided an avenue for our football players and crowd to get hyped for the game.

Football coach, Adam Naron, said the idea originally came about when Coach Chad Cole was in high school, playing as quarterback for the Pilot Point Bear cats, and competing for a State championship.

“He almost won the State championship, but the receiver caught the ball out of bounds and they unfortunately lost,” Coach Naron said. “His coach said they would have won if they had the heart of a lion.”

Going into his fourth year in the program, Ethan Baker, 12 said this season has been different in how the seniors have worked to show the younger guys what hard work should look like.

“The whole program worked together.,” Ethan said. “We showed the underclassmen what you could be if you dedicated yourself.”

“I am in AP French IV as a sophomore since I tested out of the first two years of French.”

What makes this team unique from other programs is how the players lean on each other during times of stress.

“We bring each other up after every game and every practice no matter what kind of a day it is,” Jonathan Allen, 12 said. “We work to give each other words of encouragement instead of bringing each other down.”

GOING DISTANCE Varsity members of Cross Country find their place at the State

uring the fall season, the Cross Country team worked hard to make it to the UIL 5A State Championship. On Nov. 9, they competed at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas with hopes of winning.

“It was pretty epic to be able to go to state with the boys,” Luke Lawson, 11 said. “It was so awesome because it was a dream of the whole team, and this year was a first for our cross country program.”

The team had been preparing for this moment since the first day. During the race they made sure to remember the hard work that they had put into the event.

“It was really nerve-wracking at the starting line,” Saloni Nehra, 10 said. “I just had to remind myself that once

Continuing with a positive mindset the girls team was able to finish fourth overall, with Colleen Stegmann, 11 leading the pack as the State Champion. In addition, the boys placed 9th with Wyatt Wingard, 12 placing twelfth in the State.

“I was super excited to see everyone’s hard work pay off,” Colleen said. “State is such an unforgettable experience, especially with your teammates by your side.”

This season saw a lot of ice baths, team dinners, and bus karaoke making it all worth it in the end. The road to State required extreme effort and the outcome surely proves that in Cross Country we gotta

e end year five with truly knowing what it means to be a part of the pride. The evidence is all around us on why we are great.

It’s the little things we do that make us who we are... We travel the world over break, win fish at the community pep rally, compete in a Mr. Pink contest, hang out at Whataburger after games, and celebrate the Class of 2020.

It’s the way we learn a thing or two and have fun in the process... We make tons of floral arrangements, practice math problems on concrete with chalk, build mouse traps, toast and roast our favorite characters and have 1920s speakeasies.

It’s the things we do together that create a sense of family... Organizations greet people at the front doors, we perform in the rotunda, we watch OPENDen episodes, dress a little more fancy for group photos and compete in tons of competitions.

It’s the idea that winning is our thing as long as we win together. We Roar the Rock when going to State, commit to colleges, perform awesome half time shows, make sure our players don’t get injured and carve pumpkins for Halloween with our team.

It’s the way we are finding things that allow the individual to shine. We try our best to become an internet sensation, plan for our future, create new clubs, and even begin eLearning at home because of a situation that’s out of our control. But most of all, we will remember the good times we had at Reedy in 2019-2020.

These are things that make us who we are as a pride. Let’s face it...
