Canada Lynx The Canada Lynx is closely related to the Eurasian Lynx and the Bobcat. For their diet they mostly rely on the snowshoe hare; in fact, the Lynx’s population fluctuates in response to the Hare’s population. They are nocturnal animals, generally sleeping during the day and hunting only at night.

The Canada Lynx can climb trees with ease; sometimes stalking and hunting their prey from them. They live in Canada, Alaska, and northern parts of the continental United States. They are also solitary hunters, with the exception of their mother and kittens. In addition, they can live up to fourteen years in captivity; they most likely live much shorter lives in the wild.

Why Are They Endangered Lynx have always been valued highly by trappers for their fur, and lynx populations have declined with that hunting pressure. Their habitat was also impacted by decades of timber management in their habitat without any guidance from federal agencies to conserve lynx (and snowshoe hare) habitat. In the last two decades however, federal steps were taken to protect lynx and their habitat.

Recovery

The Canada lynx is protected under the Endangered Species Act as a threatened species. In 1999 the Lynx was reintroduced into it’s core habitat of the southern rocky mountains. More than 200 lynx were reintroduced within the last decade. This reintroduction effort has been deemed a success. At least 141 kittens have been born in Colorado.

Shortnose Sturgeon The Shortnose Sturgeon became endangered by many things and they were construction of dams, mainly during the period of industrial growth (late 1800s-early 1900s) may have resulted in substantial loss of suitable habitat, pollution of many large northeastern river systems, habitat alterations from discharges, dredging or disposal of material into rivers, related development activities involving estuarine/ riverine mudflats and marshes They are also endangered because of decimated on the Atlantic coast, primarily as a result of overfishing. At the same time, dam construction and deteriorating water quality reduced sturgeon habitat. Both overfishing and habitat loss contributed to shortnose population declines, leading to its classification as an endangered species in 1967.

Bog turtle

Why are they endangered?

Did you know that the bog turtle is the rarest turtle in Connecticut? Bog turtles eat seeds, berries, insects, slugs, worms, crayfish, frogs, snakes, snails, and carrion. Bog turtles currently occur in scattered colonies mostly in the eastern . Bog turtles breed in late April to early June after emerging from hibernation.

Bog turtles live for an average of 20 to 30 years in the wild. Did you know that During winter, bog turtles hibernate underwater in deep areas of bogs in about 6 to 18 inches of mud. Adult bog turtles weigh 110 grams (3.9 oz) on average.

The bog turtle is protected under the United State’s Endangered Species Act. Considered threatened at the federal level. The greatest threats to the Bog Turtle are the loss, degradation, and fragmentation of its habitat from wetland alteration, development, pollution, invasive species, and natural vegetational succession. The species is also threatened by collection for illegal wildlife trade.

Recovery

The overall objective of the bog turtle recovery program is to protect and maintain the northern population of this species and its habitat, enabling the eventual removal of the species from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants.

Atlantic Salmon The atlantic salmon Is a type of fish. Its average size of atlantic salmon is 28-30 inches.

The atlantic salmon is an anadromous fish typically spending 2-3 years in freshwater migrating to the ocean sentry. The atlantic salmon also runs in new england witch occurred in almost rivers that ,were depleted.

They also, swim in the northern lakes. The population of the atlantic salmon is from three of the five rivers with the largest populations (Androscoggin, Merrimack, and Connecticut Rivers). It eats insects and plankton for its diet.

Wow me facts The Female atlantic salmon can lay up to 1,500 eggs or more. In addition, the Atlantic salmon is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Salmonidae. Also, the Atlantic salmon have long been the target of recreational and commercial fishing. Lastly, the atlantic salmon has red and silver spots on it.

Why it's Endangered The atlantic Salmon is endangered because they are threatened and endangered by people and other animals. They were significantly impacted by industrial development as well as agriculture and forest tree practices.

Bald Eagles!

Bald eagles are endangered because humans are disrupting the nest and human activities like hunting is also disrupting them too. The DDT(chemical) got flushed into the running water, which got into the fish bodies. The bald eagles eat the fish that has the DDT in their bodies which could cause the female eagle to lay very thin eggs which can cause them to break when not ready. People are helping bald eagles by getting rid of DDT. Having DDT now will be against the law. Now that DDT is banned, the population of bald eagles has increased.

The eagles habitat is near lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. Eagles do hibernate in the winter in there nest but they bring more supplies to cover themselves so they stay warm and they grow their winter feathers. The eagles nest measures up to 9 feet and could weight up to 1 ton to 0.9 metric ton. The bald eagle communicates by vocal calls such as chatters. Bald eagles eat

small mammals like squirrels, prairie dogs, raccoons and rabbits. They also eat fish.

THE GREY WOLF

Why they are endangered and what people are doing to help Grey wolves are endangered because most people are hunting them and much more. Also people are rehabilitating them and putting them back into the wild. This will help them to survive because if they are back into the wild they have a better chance of repopulating. And finally they are trying to have not as much physical contact.

The American Burying Beetle: The American burying beetle is this beetle that fly’s and has a thick shiny black body with red markings. The burying beetle lives in the woods underground in this soil type habitat. The American burying beetle does is that they sense dead animals and they find the animals and bury them. The American burying beetle eats a carcass which it is a dead bird and other animals like that. The American burying beetle lives to lives to 12 months.

The American burying beetle is endangered because from hunting, farming, and development. What humans are doing to help is that people are trying to make a plan to save the American burying beetle by making new habits in the wild so the American burying beetle can live.
