CULTURAL COEXISTENCE

This building is located at Kuala Koh, Kelantan. It is a building that tend to help the batek to maintain their kinship, social organization, diets, belief, hunting and gathering way. The main idea of the site is to will make people recognize their identity and open up the differences of believes and culture.

05

ETHNOGRAPHICBACKGROUND- CULTURE

The Batek De' Negritos are one or-several aboriginal people, called Orang Asli, living an unassimilated life in Malaysia. Numbering about 350, the Batek live in camps of five or six nuclear families in the rain forest regions of the state of Kelantan. They maintain themselves by hunting, gathering, and trading forest products.

In the last decade, there was a great demand in rattan for making furniture and fist trap. The Batek not only collect but also trade the rattan, on foot or by raft, to the malay camp for rice and manufactured goods. The food hunted is divided for the entire village.

# ECONOMY
05

The Batek ate monkey that shot with poisoned darts, and wild vegetables from young fences. The children able to walk on the thinnest branches, tearing the fruits from trees and all the trees are alive with them. They like dancing nimbly along the branches, shaking the bough in imitation of gibbons.

The Batek believe that superpowers created the humanity on earth and separated them from other people. There will have misfortune if They refuse to honor a requested favour. Other properties like man’s blowgun, tobacco, radios and woman’s hair comb are perceived to be personal properties asthey have no right on ownership.

#
LIFESTYLE # ECONOMY

ETHNOGRAPHICBACKGROUND- ISSUE

AS a community, the Batek is facing a lot of problem such as being pressured to convert to Islam. This is because the government wanted to integrate them into malay society and assimilate them. Therefore, they started to pray and their diet became a mix of old and new such as rice and store-bought vegetables.

Animals brought back to the village need to be conceal within bags and bones, skin and fur are immediately buried. They started having the feeling of longing for friends, game animals, fruits, and places. It is nostalgia of a past time when the landscape was covered in trees, and expresses hopelessness, the loss of something which cannot be regained.

# LIFEAFTER 05

The batek’s kinship, social organization, diets, belief, hunting and gathering way shouldn’t be influence by outsider. To maintain their culture, they should be informed on the benefits of living in integration with the larger Malaysian society and allowed to take decisions on their own.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

TROPICANA GP 1 SHOP OFFICE

- WORKERS QUARTERS & ANCILLARY BUILDINGS TEMPORARY

PERMIT

-Then I produced a series of detail drawings from Autocad, said drawings includes plan and section drawings of workers quarters, site office, site canteen, store, bin collector, mobile toilets, bath, toilets and laundry area, project signboard and site hoarding.

- After submitted all the document to the client, there are some of the drawings that needed us to amend as the client need us to reduce the size of some of the structure in order to reduce the cost.

- Next, there are some important thing that need to be shown in layout plan such as boundary line, setback line, water supply system, sewerage system,

- After that, we will send all the document to Pontian Municipal Council for pre-consultation and contractor for comment in order to proceed to submission.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNT:

During this task, i have learnt the procedure and requirement of temporary permit submission. For example, all temporary building need colour in red, all drawing need colour according to material such as cement and plaster colour in yellow, timber colour in chocolate, metal colour in blue, reinforced concrete colour in green, brick colour in red.

- It also gave me an opportunity to express my own creativity through rendering.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

KANGKAR PULAI DOUBLE STOREY TERRACE HOUSE - ROAD NAME SUBMISSION

-The forth project that i was assisting the architect to prepare the design proposal for single storey bungalow. First, I produced the site plan from pre-comp plan and follow by producing a set of massing and draft floor plan. My idea was based on my research through online website -The main feature of this bungalow is to have a traditional courtyard architecture style. The house has been planned around its nucleus: the courtyard. All spaces are designed around this central sphere in various ways be it by physically traversing through it to access different spaces or being visible from all areas at all times. The living, kitchen, dining and bedrooms overlook the courtyard at different levels.
