Leonard Bernstein

Fabulous, Fantastic Fall

1918-1990 "Life is a lot like jazz... it's best when you improvise." Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, MA. As a boy, his father took him to many orchestra concerts. He attended Harvard University & the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied piano, conducting and composition. In 1943 he was appointed to his first permanent conducting post as assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic. Bernstein conducted the orchestra for the CBS television series, Young People's Concerts, and he believed that teaching young people about music was very important. He also composed music for the orchestra and musical theater, including West Side Story, which was later made into a movie.

George Gershwin We've had a great start to the school year! I am impressed with all the progress the students have made in the past two months. In particular, I would like to thank my new assistants, Kathryn Blaser and Rachel Bielstein, who are doing a wonderful job working with the students enrolled in music modules. The extra time devoted to music theory has made a big dierence! Parent involvement can also make a big dierence to student success. I would recommend making time to hear your children's pieces at least once a week. Not only does it encourage more practice, but having the students get used to performing can reduce anxiety around recitals. If there is ever a question about an assignment, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'm happy to help! Now, back to my pumpkin spice latte‌ Miss Jen

Congratulations to voice student Abbey Lienemann who was cast in A Christmas Carol at the Omaha Playhouse!
