Maternal Grandmothers’s branch (Becker)
The entire line of maternal grandparents were born in Russia in between 1886 and 1893, all migrating to the United States. The entire line links back to Saratov, Russia, on the Volga River where the community was built as a fort in 1590 to protect from Nomadic raiders. However, the Strackbein’s were associated with an area called Schilling, a village near Saratov. It seems all were part of the “Volga Germans” and they settled in what is known as the German-Russian Bottoms in Lincoln, Nebraska.
