Gruau d’agrumes Ce petit quatuor avec flûte tente d’explorer quelques associations entre harmonicité et durée du son, en y favorisant les rapports d’ordre paradoxal.

A titre d’exemple, la pièce met en avant un matériau qui oscille entre des sons bruités sur des valeurs longues et l’utilisation de sons non entretenus quasi harmoniques (comme le surprenant pizzicato multiphonique à la flûte).

Des citations cadentielles du second mouvement du quatuor avec flûte de Mozart, réorchestrées sur ce même principe, ponctuent le discours à la manière d’une transition qui amènera les cordes dans un jeu sans archet. La coda, constituée de sons inharmoniques sur des valeurs courtes, représente l’idée du gruau au regard de la définition quelque peu polysémique du petit Robert, un « grain d’avoine privé de son ».

Gruau d’agrumes (oatmeal citrus) This little flute quartet tries to explore some associations between harmonicity and duration of the sound, by favoring the paradoxical relationships. For example, the piece highlights a material that oscillates between noisy sounds over long values and the use of non-maintained quasi harmonic (as surprising pizzicato multiphonic in flute) sounds.

Cadential quotations of the second movement of the Mozart’s flute quartet were reorchestrated on the same principle, they punctuate the speech in the manner of a transition that will bring the strings in a game without a bow. The coda, consisting of inharmonic sounds on short values, represents the idea of oatmeal as the Petit Robert dictionnary defines it in a polysemic way, a “oat without oat bran”(“bran” is “son” in french, wich could mean “sound” too).

Cordes : Les harmoniques naturelles sont signifiées ainsi : ° Attention, il existe des harmoniques artificielles à la tierce et à la quarte. Lorsqu’elles sont dans le suraigu, c’est l’effet de souffle qu’il faut mettre en avant.

Natural harmonics are signified as follows : ° Be careful, there are artificial harmonics to the third and fourth. When they are very hight the shrill is the blast that needs to be highlighted.

Notes : La pièce peut se jouer, en fonction du lieu, avec un dispositif d’amplification qui consiste uniquement à la disposition d’un haut-parleur placé à côté de chaque instrument. Sans utilisation de l’amplification, il sera nécessaire de réajuster les dynamiques, tout en conservant le caractère fragile des modes de jeu.

The piece can be played, depending on location, with an amplification device which is only available to a loudspeaker placed at side of each instrument. Without the use of the amplification, it is necessary to adjust the dynamic, while maintaining the fragile nature of the game modes .
