OUTGOING PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I joined the TriCounty Board of Directors at the urging of my father Kenneth, a former president of The Independent Insurance Agents Association of Queens & Kings which was our association name before merging with IIA Nassau in 2002. I will admit I was hesitant at first, but beyond happy that I did. My climb through the chairs not only gave me a sense of fulfillment and achievement, but I met many great people and made new and lasting friends.

I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with a very talented and enthusiastic group of directors and officers and am very pleased with the accomplishments we made. TriCounty’s continued dedication to supporting charitable donations, our scholarship programs, legislative efforts and member services make me proud. I alone cannot take credit for any of them. The credit belongs to the hard-working passionate and innovative board members.

INCOMING PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE It is my honor to serve as the first president under the designation of the BIG I TRI-COUNTY organization, formally known as TriCounty Independent Insurance Agents Association. The foundation of this organization stems from the efforts of hardworking people who collectively channeled their energies to construct this wonderful organization we celebrate today.

Reflecting on the contributions of my predecessors, I am determined to utilize my presidency to inspire and mentor the youth of our organization and industry. With the relentless support of our directors, officers, and members we will achieve new heights and greater success than ever before.

Our first board of directors meeting of the season will be held this summer at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The BIG I TRI-COUNTY will work together with volunteers to purchase and Andrew Chong prepare meals for over 40 resident families. We ask for your support and participation as we help those in need find a safe place to share a meal and rejoice.

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS TRICOUNTY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM We received close to 100 applications for the “Joel S. Pollack Memorial Scholarship” award this year. Each of the students submitted an essay on the topic of ‘Distracted Driving’ a critical issue these days. The writers recognized the problems of widespread texting and other cell phone use while driving and seemed to feel that young drivers were especially guilty of this infraction.

The winner of the 2018 award went to Vinny Pagano of Long Beach High School. He is considering Yale University in the fall.

There were more than 80 applications received for the 2018 “Stephen T. Dooley Community Service” award all of them showing outstanding volunteerism from these graduating young folks during their 4 years of high school.

The winner of this award went to Colin Robinson of Baldwin High School. Colin plans to continue his education at St. John’s University in Queens.

Each winner will have $1,000 from TriCounty deposited in their college account after sending us proof of enrollment. It is to be used for tuition and other education fees.

A new TriCounty scholarship award will begin in memory of Ed Lehman a highly respected insurance professional who was amongst those who perished on 9-11-2001.

As an alumni of Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, Ed will be remembered each year when a student who exemplifies exceptional volunteerism and community service will receive $1,000 towards furthering education.

The “Edward Joseph Lehman Memorial Scholarship” is being sponsored by Peter Phillips & James Bastian of Advantage Partners.
