This short piece for shō was friendly writing for the amazing player Chatori Shimizu who introduced me to this wonderfull instrument.
The form is a kind of A B A, underlining the quality of the sound and the large range of colours produced by the shō.
The title refers to a kind of apple grown in Japan, but also to its literal meaning (deep red) which evokes the harmonic density of the piece. Akane is part of a set of short pieces named by apples variety. (Braeburn, for doublebass - Griffer, for piano - Recolor, for alto saxophone, etc.)
