Auf nach Mexiko zum Fußball-Weltmeisterschaftsturnier der Deutschen Auslandsschulen 2006

Im Vorfeld der Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft in Deutsch- land 2006 nahm die Deutsche Schule Washington an einem Fußball-Weltmeisterschaftsturnier der Deutsch- en Auslandsschulen teil. Teilnahmeberechtigt waren Jungen im Alter von 14-16 Jahren. Die Qualifikations- Turniere wurden regional (kontinental) ausgetragen und die jeweiligen Gewinner spielten dann während eines Wochenend-Turniers in München den Weltmeister aus.

Das Team der DSW unter der Leitung von Uwe Kehrer und Christoph Zänglein spielte in der Gruppe Amerika . Gastgeber Schule Mexiko-Stadt des Turniers war die Deutsche (Lomas Verdes). Teilnehmende Schulen (Lomas waren die Deutsche Verdes), Mexiko-Stadt Schule Mexiko Stadt (Xochimilco), Puebla, New York und Washington.

Jedes Team hatte drei Gruppenspiele und die beiden Gruppenersten sollten in einem Finale den Turnier- sieger ermitteln. Untergebracht war unser Team bei Gasteltern der Schule von Xochimilco. Alle Familien exposed the students to track, tennis, volleyball, softball along with the traditional sports of soccer and basketball. We have created teams for different levels and for both sexes only to find ourselves not progressing at a rate to place us with bigger schools in the Washington Area with more elaborate facilities. As you can see German School sports has evolved through years with teams filled with expectations and promise, groups looking for triumph but sometimes having to settle for a breach in circumstance. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were in every child's mind when playing for their school. Sports at the German School is unparallel to any other aspect of community life within these walls. Our students leave us knowing this part of their life gave them the pride in being part of a unique opportunity to prove that they could be all they could be. May all the students wherever they may be keep these precious moments in mind. Thank you for you support and participation over the years in a program that may not be perfect but boy did we have some fun!
