David Tookey Director of Information Technology

David Tookey showed an interest in computers from an early age, programming and building them himself since elementary school. When he joined JDS Consulting in 2012, he took on a variety of roles, ranging from field inspections to retaining wall design, but he eventually combined his experience with his passion for technology. After having led systems development and operations for the company, David became the Director of IT. In addition to overseeing the team responsible for systems administration and maintenance, he has developed custom, in-house applications for JDS Consulting that enable instant information access, collaboration and project management. By leveraging the power of task automation and cloud computing, David has enabled the company to ease communication, increase efficiency and reduce the time it takes to manage projects.

Key Projects and Experience

• JDS Consulting Project Management Software

To better serve the needs of clients, JDS Consulting determined that it needed a feature-rich project management system that could handle the unique lifecycle of every job. It was challenging and time-intensive, but David built it. The software was not the product of one mind, but, instead, a product of individuals of diverse disciplines coming together as a team to realize a common vision. A lot of lessons were learned during this journey, but the most useful of them was to simply listen to the needs of teammates.

• Retaining Wall, Audubon Parc, Cary, NC

This project was with a first-time client who had limited experience working with the materials and techniques specified for the job. Designing the wall and delivering the product were only the first steps for a project that was really about communication. David provided timely responses and accurate information to all questions, and the client was able to proceed through the project without delays and on schedule. The results are not only visually appealing, but the retaining wall for the Audubon Parc apartment community stands as a testament to the importance of putting one’s best foot forward for every client.
