MASON GERSH ’18
Mason knew he was interested in social justice when he came to Northeastern, and his coursework, co-ops, study abroad experiences, and research with faculty members developed that interest into a passion for human rights advocacy. His co-op experiences included public affairs work at the United States’ Embassy in London. Back on campus, Mason received funding for his research on demographic clustering in urban neighborhoods. Post graduation, he is working for the International Rescue Committee in London.

Immerse yourself in communities and cultures around the globe. Part of our extensive global opportunities, Dialogues of Civilizations are month-long, summer study-abroad programs led by Northeastern faculty. CSSH faculty members have run Dialogues to over 30 countries, from the Czech Republic and South Africa to Italy, Israel, and China. The map below highlights the locations from 2017 to 2019 in red.
HUMAN SERVICES MAJOR
HANNAH FLATH ’18 Hannah immediately got involved in the campus and local communities, assuming a leadership role in the university’s chapter of Relay For Life and volunteering as a service-learning teaching assistant. On a study abroad program with Northeastern faculty in Zambia, she developed an interest in connecting global service, public health, and development policy. While on co-op at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Cambridge, MA, she contributed to a report on Uganda’s efforts to improve healthcare quality for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Sneha’s coursework piqued her interest in global and modern literatures. With the support of her faculty advisor and the CSSH Undergraduate Research Initiative, she embarked on an honors thesis to explore the themes of culture, identity, and social change. She presented several of her research projects at conferences both on and off campus, experiences that are helping shape her path toward a JD at Columbia Law School.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR
MARTIN NARCISO ’19 Martin knew when he came to Northeastern that he was interested in helping others by investigating and preventing criminal activity. His co-op with the Drug Enforcement Administration immersed him in combating organized crime and drug trafficking in the New England region. A second co-op at Boston Private’s Financial Intelligence Unit gave him an understanding of financial crime. Currently enrolled in Northeastern’s Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Master’s program, Martin hopes to continue to work in federal law enforcement.
