People often say “never go into business with your friends.” However, it can be one of the most exciting, fun, adventurous, challenging, supporting and satisfying things you can do if you have the right partner. Tammy Leggett and Donna Horton are friends first, business partners second and have been enjoying building Hortons General Store together and keeping it running like a well-oiled machine.

Tammy is the face you see when you walk into the store and she manages the day-to-day operations for the store. She is very personable and is great at communicating with all of the customers and vendors. She also maintains the store by keeping the shelves stocked, creating gifts and baskets for the customers. She enjoys interacting with the customers and listening to their stories.

Donna is more behind the scenes, she works full time in Savannah and balances her time between her job and the General Store.

Hortons General Store opened May 18, 2020. Donna’s husband Van operated Hortons Deer Processing and opened up Horton’s Quality Meat in 2015. In 2016, Horton’s Quality Meat closed down to focus on wholesale and retail of Hortons’ Beef Jerky. Donna and Van would travel around on the weekends going to large events promoting the Horton Products.

When COVID shut down large events in 2020, it was a hard blow since large events were where they promoted most of their products. This led to the idea of opening the General Store to help with their retail business and also to help out friends that were affected by COVID.

Friends and fellow festival vendors across Georgia and South Carolina were contacted to see if they were interested in selling their products in the store. The response was overwhelming!

Horton’s General Store is overflowing with local products from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida. Horton’s fresh sausage is now available everyday in the store. They also carry local and small batch company items such as BBQ sauces, marinades, pickles, jams, jellies, dressings, soups, spices, coffee and more

Gifts are a big part of the store with T-shirts, soaps, jewelry, candles and more. They create gift baskets upon request from items chosen by the customers.

Tammy and Donna also created their own brand that perfectly describes their business, Southern Rooted. This is a lifestyle company “rooted” in faith, family and friendship. Donna is working on many t-shirt designs for Southern Rooted, and they have expanded into selling soaps, candles and coffee with more products to come.

Horton’s is a women-owned small business focused on making their business successful and also helping out other businesses be successful as well. Check them out in Rincon or online at hortonsgeneralstore.com

B’RENEWED WITH BONNIE J. SMITH

It can be frustrating when you have pain or medical issues and every doctor you go to can’t seem to find the solutions. They run tests and still come up blank. Bonnie has heard on multiple occasions from clients that they “wish they had come to her sooner.”

Many people don’t think too much about massage therapy or holistic healing when an issue arises, and Bonnie J. Smith wants to change that perspective. She wants people to use massage therapy as a second or third option to receiving help.

Often massage is the last resort or is thought of to be a luxury service, but in reality, it has a lot of physical and mental benefits. Massage therapy should be a necessity and not a luxury.

Bonnie worked at the Westin spa for ten years before moving to a chiropractor office. When she worked for the chiropractor, she was fascinated by the clinical and medical side. She wanted to approach massage therapy as a clinical means of addressing physical issues. At B’Renewed, Bonnie offers a variety of services including body scrubs, hot stone, nutritional testing, and coaching. When her clients comes in with a physical issue they can’t seem to solve and leaves happy and pain-free, that is when Bonnie knows that what she is doing for her clients is working. Bonnie has been getting her message out to others in the surrounding areas so much that she has now opened a second location to accommodate more clientele.

B’Renewed has been in business for only two years and she has already shown her customers success in being pain-free, and they share their experience with others in their lives.

If you are looking for something different to try and you feel like you have tried everything, give Bonnie a call! She offers much more than just massage therapy and has had lots of success with relieving pain for clients who thought they had no other options.
