1. COMMON TOOLS FOR INSTALLATION • • • •
Metal cutting saw File or other deburring tool Laser alignment tool, or nylon cord Torque wrench
• • • •
Flat head screwdriver Open-end wrench or ratchet wrench Tape measure Appropriate safety equipment
2. INSTALLATION SUPPORT • TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® Tray should be supported for the combined working loads of the tray, tubing, and/or cable in the tray, as well as any additional loading such as snow, ice, wind, etc. Consideration should be given to all loading, including any possible future addition of tubes and/ or cables. • Your I&C Field Engineer or other engineering source should specify proper support and allowable spans of the tray • TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® should be installed using standoff supports to maintain clearance for installing fasteners. • LOAD and DEFLECTION information for TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® tray is available on our website at www.JCWCO.com. This information is provided solely as a reference to aid you in selection of TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® Tray size and material type. (Note: your specific application may require your engineer to verify all data and calculations. This is a commercial software program not controlled by the JCWCO Nuclear Q.A. Program.) • You may also want to reference NEMA VE-2 Cable Tray Installation Guidelines for general information on support and installation of tray systems. • The TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® Tray Systems are installed on supports or a supporting system per your engineering design and specifications. 3. FIELD CUTTING OF TUBETRACK® AND CABLE-RACE® CHANNEL AND ANGLE TRAY TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® Channel and Angle Trays are typically cut to length as needed in the field. When Trays are cut to length, care must be taken to remove all burrs and sharp edges prior to assembling the Tray to the Tray Fittings.

3.1 Field cutting of 1” Deep Channel Tray: »» Cut trays 3/4” from the center of the nearest square hole to the end of the Tray for the length needed. Square holes are used for bolting 1” deep Trays to most 1” deep standard Tray Fittings. (See cutting illustration below) »» NOTE: If Tray is cut too long it may interfere with proper assembly of Tray Fittings, and if cut too short it may not provide adequate surface for bolt head. »» Consult the TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® online catalogs (www.JCWCO.com) for nominal tray engagement with various tray fittings. »» When connecting 1” tray to adjustable fittings, transition splices, or 2” deep large radius fittings, use the 3/8” holes with 3/8” fasteners.

3.2 Field cutting of 2” Deep Channel Tray and Angle Tray »» Cut 2” Deep Tray and Angle Tray 3/4” from the center of the nearest round hole to the end of the Tray for the length needed. Round holes are used for bolting 2” deep Channel Trays and Angle Trays to 2” deep standard Tray Fittings. (See cutting illustration below) »» NOTE: If tray is cut too long it may interfere with proper assembly of Tray Fittings, and if cut too short it may not provide adequate surface for bolt head.

4. FIELD ASSEMBLY OF TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® CHANNEL AND ANGLE TRAY TO TRAY FITTINGS All TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® Tray Fittings are supplied with the appropriate fasteners for connecting to Tray. TUBETRACK® and CABLE-RACE® use only tightenable fasteners to secure tray connections. 4.1 Installation of 1” Deep Channel Tray »» Bolting: 1” Deep Tray Fittings are field-assembled to the Tray using the square holes in the Tray and JCWCO, Inc. Tubing Bolts (which are special 1/4”-20 carriage-type bolts manufactured to fit the square holes in the Tray) with 1/4” hex flange locking hex nuts. (Regular hex nuts and flat washers are available on request.)
To determine the quantity and type of fasteners needed, see chart on Page 7. »» Field assembly of 1” Deep Channel Tray to Tray Fittings • Insert the proper cut length (see cutting instructions) of 1” Deep Tray inside the fitting outlet, aligning the first sets of square holes in the Tray with the bolting holes in the fitting. • Install bolts through square holes in the Tray, keeping slight downward pressure on the bolt head to engage the square shoulder of the bolt in the square hole of the Tray. This prevents the bolt from rotating while installing the nut. • Tighten bolt to appropriate torque per your engineering specifications.

Nominal Engagement The nominal engagement is the overlap of tray inside the splice or bend fitting. TUBETRACK® channel fits inside each end of this splice for a nominal engagement of 5.5”. Use fitting dimensions to estimate straight channel lengths for a job. See TUBETRACK® or CABLE-RACE® catalogs for Nominal Engagement Dimensions of each standard fitting.

4.2 Installation of 2” Deep Channel Tray and Angle Tray »» Bolting: 2” Deep Tray Fittings are field-assembled to the Tray using the round holes in the Tray and JCWCO, Inc. 3/8”-16 Slotted Truss Head Bolts and 3/8” hex flange locking hex nuts. (Regular hex nuts 3/8” and flat washers available on request.)
To determine the quantity and type of fasteners needed, see chart on Page 8. »» Field assembly of 2” Deep Channel Tray and Angle Tray to Tray Fittings • Insert the proper cut length (see cutting instructions) of 2” Deep Tray inside the Fitting outlet, aligning the first two sets of round holes in the Tray with the bolting holes in the Fitting. IMPORTANT NOTE: for Splice Fittings, use the first and third sets of round holes. • Install the bolts through the round holes in the Tray. Install the hex nut using an openended or ratchet type wrench while holding down bolt head with a flat-head screwdriver. • Tighten bolt to appropriate torque per your engineering specifications.
