Warmest greetings to all of you!
It is indeed my pleasure to be invited to pen some thoughts for JCI Malaysia Area Sabah’s 1st eNewsletter
The first quarter of 2023 has come to an end With most of the Local Organisations having concluded their Installations, the focus now shifts towards conducting impactful projects The idea behind conducting impactful projects as a means to project leadership is well-rooted in this year’s theme; LEADING IN ACTION. Leadership is not something that can be touched nor measured However, leadership can be seen when there is action As a leadership development organisation, our local organisations must be seen to be taking action in providing leadership opportunities. It is through impactful projects that we can project leadership, provide opportunities for our members, and ensure we remain an attractive organisation for young leaders.
Personally, I have also had the opportunity to visit Sabah, and more specifically Kota Kinabalu twice in the first quarter alone. I am glad to see the growth and alignment of the local organisations in Sabah to JCI Malaysia’s Plan of Action. With the upcoming Area Sabah Convention hosted by JCI Merotai in Tawau, I look forward to meeting with the Local Presidents and members in the East Coast of Sabah during the second quarter.
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to National Executive Vice President cum Area Chairman Micheal Chai and his team for leading Area Sabah A team is a sum of all its parts. In order for the team to succeed, all parts must perform its functions accordingly. As National and Area officers, we must always remember that these positions of privilege come with huge responsibilities and commitment Therefore, I would like to urge all the officers to always uphold your oath of office, be a living example to our members to ensure the JCI movement in Sabah can continue to flourish.
I wish to conclude my remarks by sharing a question which I have often been asked; “Why are you so active in JCI?” The simple answer is that this organisation has continuously made me a better person than I was yesterday Sometimes, in the midst of managing all the responsibilities, performing your duties, and interacting with members, we tend to feel overwhelmed.
However, we should never forget that these are the opportunities provided by JCI to make us better leaders. That is the reason why I have remain committed to this organisation which I have dedicated a quarter of my life (and counting) It is my sincere wish that you will enjoy your journey in JCI in becoming a better leader as much as I have enjoyed mine
Yours in JCI,
MATT NGAI

Dear members and friends of JCIM Area Sabah,
It is my honor to pen a few words in the e-newsletter and warm greetings in the newsletter to welcome the year 2023. I'm glad to see everyone of you putting effort into your First Quarter Enewsletter as this is a great opportunity to showcase and highlight how your Local Organization and members have come together as a united force, working towards the growth and development of the community.
In the first quarter, it is indeed a busy month for everyone. A month that needs to prepare and participate in each Installation & Awards Ceremonies. At the same time, many handover work need to be carried out thoroughly
I am pleased to see the growth of Area Sabah in the first quarter. The JCI movement is now increasingly seen by the public and the government as many members actively participated in this year's government activities, and have begun to establish contact with other Areas to share different perspectives and ideas, and implement their good things they have learned in other Local Organization This is in line with Area Sabah's Theme this year, "Grow in Unity"; where we focus on collaboration with different Areas, Local Organizations and Associations I hope this collaboration will continue beyond this year.
Here I would like to remind everyone to implement the plans you have planned at the beginning of the year. A plan without action is just a speech. Remember, "Plan your work and work your plan." Let's continue the momentum and make a lasting impact in our community.
Last but not least, thanks to our Publication Director Pooi Jun Jin for compiling and publishing all the highlights of the Area Sabah in the first quarter. Hope everyone enjoys the newsletter and happy reading
Yours in JCI, MICHEAL CHAI

Warmest greetings to Area Sabah leaders and members
‘Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily, even if you had no title or position.’ –
Brian Tracy
As we welcome a new year of 2023, we embark on our journey in one mind of unification to provide young leaders with the opportunities to develop their leadership skills, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and fellowship necessary to create positive change in our communities. Thus form this year JCIM Area Sabah theme’s ‘Grow In Unity’.
However unity alone is not enough We must also take action towards our goals, using our skills, talents and resources to make a tangible impact in Malaysia We ought be proactive in our approach, taking calculated risks and being open to feedback and learning along the way.
With JCI's programs and initiatives, young leaders are given the platform to take action and address the most pressing issues facing in our communities. In the 1st Quarter of this year, JCIM Area Sabah Area Directors, Local Presidents and JCI members have dedicated and committed in carrying out projects that range from community development, environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, education and health which I applauded for their efforts being made.
That being said, our progress towards leadership is not just about leading from the front nor about words; it’s about ‘Leading In Action’. We lead by example through showing others what is possible by means of our action if we expect others to follow. With that in mind, it is also about empowering and inspiring others to become their best version of themselves To do this effectively, we must ‘Grow in Unity’ by recognizing that we are all in this together and our differences should be celebrated and leveraged as strengths.
Let us go forth and strive with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment while striving for continuity in our leadership by ensuring our actions today are building a foundation for sustainable change in the future through ‘Leading In Action’!
Yours in JCI,
Yeoh Keffrey
