As we embark on 2025, Area Sarawak is already filled with impactful projects that bring us closer together a great start to an exciting year ahead!

I am Tan Chin Jie, serving as the 2025 JCI Malaysia National Executive Vice President cum Area Sarawak Chairman. It is my privilege to lead and support our vibrant JCI community in Sarawak, where we currently have 14 local organizations and over 600 members across major cities and districts, including Kuching, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri As part of our continuous growth, we are also exploring potential affiliations in other cities and districts to develop more young leaders and create a greater positive impact throughout Sarawak

As we kickstart the year, I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your dedication and commitment to JCI’s mission. January has been a month filled with energy and collaboration, we had the JCI Malaysia Leadership Summit, where leaders from across the nation gathered to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to lead effectively. It was a great platform to exchange ideas, strengthen our vision, and prepare for a year of impactful leadership. I hope all participants found it valuable and are ready to apply what they’ve learned to empower their local organizations!

At the same time, the Area Installation and GMM that showcased the unity and strong bond within Area Sarawak Seeing different local organizations come together to share ideas, learn from one another, and grow as a team has been truly inspiring

On top of that, we also had important submission deadlines during the festive season I sincerely appreciate the Local Organizations that remained committed to meeting these deadlines despite the rush Your dedication to timely reporting and documentation ensures the smooth operation of our area, and I thank you for your hard work

Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a global membership-based non-profit organization of young active citizens ages 18 to 40 who are dedicated to creating positive change in their communities. Through projects in more than 5,000 communities across more than 100 countries, members seek targeted solutions to local problems, creating a global impact.

The JCI movement started on October 13, 1915 by one active citizen, Henry Giessenbier, who had a passion for positive change. Since then, millions of other young active citizens have united together to create sustainable impact in their community.

Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia) is the national organization of the junior chamber international local organization in Malaysia. JCI Malaysia was chartered in year 1976 and is affliated to Junior Chamber International (JCI) , a global leadership development organization for young active citizens age between 18 to 40 years old, found since 1915 in St Louis, US by Henry Giessenbier . JCI MAlaysia is managed by its National Board of Directors who are all volunteers, serving based on JCI’s “One Year to Lead” values

MEMBERSHIP

There are more than 3320 members from 75 local organizations affliated to JCI Malaysia, from Area North, Area Central, Area South, Area Sarawak and Area Sabah. JCI membership is open to all nationalities, races and religions.

The 2025 JCI Malaysia journey officially commenced with the Joint Board of Directors (BOD) and 1st National Board of Directors (NBOD) Meeting, held on 7th December 2024 at the JCI Malaysia Headquarters This significant gathering set the foundation for the year ahead, bringing together key leaders to discuss strategic plans and initiatives

On December 27, 2024, JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak successfully hosted the Secretaries Bootcamp, an insightful and hands-on online training session aimed at empowering JCI secretaries with the skills and knowledge necessary for a productive 2025. Held via Zoom, the session brought together secretaries from various chapters to learn best practices and enhance their efficiency in chapter administration.

Expert-Led Training for Secretarial Excellence

The bootcamp featured comprehensive training sessions led by Michelle Toh, the 2023 Most Outstanding Local Secretary and the 2025 JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak Secretary General. With her vast experience and proven track record, Michelle provided participants with practical strategies and expert guidance on:

✅ Mastering the JCI Malaysia Roadmap for effective planning and award submissions

✅ Optimizing JVC administration for seamless chapter operations

✅ Navigating E-Roses submission guidelines with confidence

✅ Understanding key responsibilities to excel in the secretary role

In addition, the bootcamp featured a special sharing session by Samuel Ngu, who provided valuable insights on event management strategies and how secretaries can leverage the roadmap for successful project execution

Building a Stronger Network of Secretaries

Beyond technical knowledge, the bootcamp fostered a spirit of collaboration and leadership among secretaries from JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, exchanged best practices, and built connections that will support them throughout their term.

On the 3rd January 2025, JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak proudly participated in the JCI Malaysia National Board of Directors Leadership Training Workshop, a transformative event designed to equip leaders with essential skills for success This impactful session featured guidance from some of JCI Malaysia’s most inspiring leaders, each sharing their expertise on key leadership aspects:

Mindset Development – Led by JCI Senator Andy Lau, 2019 JCI Malaysia National President, participants gained insights into cultivating a strong and resilient leadership mindset

Effective Communication – NLP Certified Trainer Lai Chong Yee provided valuable techniques on enhancing communication skills to foster better connections and understanding

Crafting Powerful Speeches – 2023 JCI Malaysia National President JCI Senator Matt Ngai shared strategies for delivering compelling and influential speeches

As the Leadership Summit 2025 drew to a close, the Closing Ceremony was filled with emotions of gratitude and inspiration. Our esteemed Master of Ceremony, JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak Secretary Michelle Toh, conducted the event with professionalism and grace.

The presence of Majlis Belia Malaysia (MBM) President, Mohd Izzat Afifi Bin Hj Abd Hamid, as our Guest of Honor added immense value. His words of wisdom and encouragement reminded us of our shared mission and the power of collective leadership in making a difference. On the 12th of January 2025, JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak had the privilege of paying a courtesy visit to YB IR Dato Lo Khere Chiang at SUPP Batu Kitang, Kuching. This visit served as an important engagement to strengthen relationships between JCI and local government representatives, fostering collaboration in community development and leadership cultivation

Facilitated by JCI Damai, the meeting was an excellent platform for JCI representatives to share insights on the organization’s vision, mission, and ongoing initiatives Discussions centered around JCI's commitment to nurturing young leaders and empowering members to take on impactful projects that benefit the community.

YB IR Dato Lo Khere Chiang expressed his strong support for JCI, acknowledging the organization’s role in grooming future leaders and driving meaningful change He commended JCI Malaysia and its local chapters for their dynamic approach to community engagement, emphasizing that such initiatives contribute significantly to the development of society.
