Summer Film Series AFTER THE WAR Mondays, July 7, 14 & 21, 10:30am

Never Forget A Holocaust survivor is offered the chance to prove that the Holocaust happened. He risks losing his wife, his job and his life to keep a promise.

The Quarrel

At Leisure/Margulies or Fitness Member: FREE Guest: $8 per movie, $20 for series

A miraculous reunion of two Holocaust survivors. One, deeply religious; the other has turned his back on God. They have one afternoon to reconcile and renew their faith and friendship.

Coffee and refreshments provided at each film.

The Pawnbroker

Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

A survivor who is hopeless runs a pawnshop. When his idealistic assistant sacrifices his life, the pawnbroker is confronted with the goodness of the human spirit.

Co-written and directed by George Clooney and starring David Strathairn, Clooney, Robert Downey Jr., Patricia Clarkson and Jeff Daniels. The movie portrays the conflict between veteran radio and television journalist Murrow and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin, relating to the anti-Communist Senator’s actions.

Based on E.L. Doctorow’s novel, “Daniel” examines the importance of confronting the past, shows the political environment and quietly indicts American antisemitism. Directed by Sidney Lumet, starring Timothy Hutton and Mandy Patinkin.

An Arab girl living in Israel decides to enroll in a Jewish boarding school to increase her chances of being accepted into medical school. She is confronted by the apprehension, resistance, and prejudice of both her Arab friends and her Jewish classmates.

The Way We Were

Arabic and Hebrew with English subtitles.

The story of the attraction of opposites, the love that binds two people together and the differences that tear them apart. This 1973 American romantic drama film, stars Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford, and is directed by Sydney Pollack. The screenplay by Arthur Laurents was based on his college days at Cornell University and his experiences with the House Un-American Activities Committee.
