Hebrews 12:1

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us

Remembering The Faithful

All Saints' Day is a time to remember and honor those who have gone before us in faith the saints who lived with devotion to God and are now in God’s eternal presence. These faithful witnesses encourage us to persevere in our own spiritual journey, reminding us that we are not alone in our walk with Christ. Their lives stand as testimonies of courage, faith, and endurance, demonstrating what it means to follow God wholeheartedly, even through trials.

As we reflect on their example, we are inspired to live out our faith with greater passion and commitment. The saints were not perfect, but they were people who continually sought God, trusted God’s promises, and allowed God’s grace to transform their lives. We, too, are called to run the race marked out for us, casting aside anything that hinders our pursuit of God.

On this day, let us not only celebrate the saints of the past but also commit to living as saints today people who reflect Christ’s love and truth, and walk faithfully with God.

Pray: Lord, thank you for the example of the saints who have gone before us. Help me to live with the same faith, perseverance, and devotion, that my life may point others to you.

1 Samuel 17:34-35

34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father, and whenever a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock, 35 I went after it and struck it down, rescuing the lamb from its mouth, and if it turned against me, I would catch it by the jaw, strike it down, and kill it.

Faithful In The Ordinary

We often celebrate the big moments in our faith journey - the Goliath-slaying moments. But David's victory over Goliath didn't come out of nowhere. It was built on a foundation of faithfulness in ordinary, everyday moments.

Before David ever faced Goliath, he faced lions and bears. In the mundane task of shepherding, he learned courage, responsibility, and trust in God. These experiences, hidden from public view, prepared him for his public victory.

Our walk with God is similar. It's easy to think that serving God is about big, dramatic moments. But more often, it's about faithfulness in the ordinary. It's about developing our relationship with God in the quiet moments when no one is watching. It's about being diligent in our daily tasks, trusting that God is using them to shape us.

Some days, our faith journey might feel boring or repetitive. We might face silence from God, unanswered prayers, or everyday struggles. But these moments are crucial. They're the training ground where our faith is strengthened, and our character is formed.

Remember, every day isn't about slaying Goliath. Some days are about tending sheep, dodging difficulties, or simply persevering. But in all these moments, God is present, and God is working.

Today, embrace the ordinary moments of your faith journey. Be faithful in your daily tasks, your regular prayer times, and your routine acts of kindness. Trust that God is using these moments to prepare you for whatever is planned.

Pray: Divine Creator, help me be faithful in the ordinary moments of my life. Help me see Your presence and Your work in my daily routines. Strengthen my faith through everyday experiences and prepare me for whatever challenges lie ahead.

1 Samuel 17:45

| November 3, 2024

But David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

The Power Of God’s Name

There is power in a name, especially in the name of the Lord. When David faced Goliath, he didn't rely on physical weapons or his own strength. Instead, he came in the name of the Lord. This wasn't just a catchphrase or a good luck charm - it was a declaration of his relationship with God and his trust in God's power.

Too often, we might find ourselves using God's name casually or carelessly without the weight of a true relationship behind it. We might tack on " in Jesus' name " to our prayers without truly surrendering to God's will. But to truly come in the name of the Lord means to embody God's character, align ourselves with God's purposes, and rely completely on God's strength.

David's confidence came from his time spent in God's presence. In the quiet moments tending sheep, he had developed a deep, personal relationship with the Lord. This relationship gave him the courage to face a giant when an entire army cowered in fear.

Today, consider your own use of God's name. Is it backed by a genuine relationship? Are you spending time in God's presence, allowing God to shape your character and guide your actions? Remember, the name of the Lord is not a magic spell but a representation of God's very nature and power. When we truly come in God's name, we come with all the authority and strength of the Creator of the universe behind us.

Pray: Lord, help me to honor your name in my life. Deepen my relationship with you so that when I speak your name, it carries the weight of a true connection with you. May I, like David, face the challenges in my life not with my own strength but in the power of your name.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”

Stop And Watch The Leaves Fall

In our fast-paced lives, being still can often feel countercultural. Yet, be encouraged today, to slow down and appreciate the falling leaves and their transforming colors from spring and summer greens to beautiful autumn oranges, reds, and browns. As we notice the shorter days and nature getting us ready to experience winter, we are called to stop and find moments of stillness amidst our busy schedules.

Being still slows us down to open our hearts to receive the goodness of God. It creates space for God to speak words of comfort, direction, and preparation for the now and next. When we stop, we find ourselves getting to know God more. Our relationship deepens because we have decided to walk daily with the Lord without interruptions. We must trust that God has already worked it out while preparing us for what will come. Let us stop and watch the leaves fall as we listen to God’s voice of encouragement.

Pray: God, helm me to slow down so that we may hear your words, walk in your presence, and clear our minds of distractions. Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with the changing seasons that prepare us for the future.

Matthew 5:6

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

AReflection Of God’s Justice

Democracy, at its core, is about the voice and participation of the people. It reflects a desire for justice, equality, and the well-being of all citizens. In Matthew 5:6, Jesus tells us that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. As followers of Christ, we are called to seek justice and advocate for the voiceless within our democratic systems.

Participating in a democratic society involves more than just voting; it requires us to engage thoughtfully in discussions, understand the issues at hand, and consider how our choices align with our faith. We have a responsibility to promote policies and leaders that reflect God’s justice, mercy, and compassion.

Furthermore, democracy challenges us to respect differing opinions and foster dialogue that honors the dignity of every individual. As we engage in this process, let us be guided by love, humility, and a commitment to truth.

Pray: Lord, help me to pursue righteousness and justice in all my civic engagements.

2 Timothy 1:6

For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands

Unleash Your Gift

Life is short. Tomorrow is not promised. These phrases may seem cliché, but they are true. One weekend, I attended a Dreamers Conference. We were motivated to “write the vision,” trusting that “the revelation will come” (Habakkuk 2-3). The Friday night worship preacher was a visionary who inspired and motivated others to live their dreams. She dared to “Live, Learn and Lead.”

Less than a week later, this psalmist, poet, preacher, and spoken word artist was gone. When I received the surreal news, I mourned internally as no tears would fall. Yet, I knew she would want me and all who knew and loved her to live passionately.

Memory of #135: Don’t stop dreaming; live with no regrets. “Stir up the gift of God which is in you” (2 Timothy 1:6). Unleash all that God has placed you for God’s glory and your good.

Pray: God, walk with me and encourage me to unleash my gifts for your glory.

Isaiah 43:1-3

1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. 3 For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you.

Living The Claimed Life

My God, My God! Oh, how I love the sound of those words. There are many words to describe You Provider, Savior, Redeemer, Justifier, and Creator, to name a few. There are so many names for You as well- Elohim, El Rohi, Emmanuel, Adonai, Abba, Abhir, Kadosh... as my praise for You goes forth today, let be prefaced by one word... My My Abhir, My Shalom, My Abba. As I pass through the waters today, I will not be afraid because you are mine!

Pray: Lord, I am grateful for your word that assures protection.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Savor The Day

The Psalmist encourages us to embrace each new day, bearing in mind that each day is a gift from our heavenly Father. The joy of each day is not contingent on the day's occurrences or challenges but rather worthy of celebration because the giver has chosen each of us as recipients. The Psalm does not imply that this day will not bring disappointments nor guarantee boundless joys, but in either case, God is worthy of our praise. It is he that has given us cause to be glad.

As this day begins, rejoice in the melodies of the chirping birds. Rejoice in the whisk of the blowing winds. Rejoice in the beaming rays of the sunshine. Rejoice, and again, I say rejoice!

Let us be glad that this day did not deem us muted or stilled but rendered us new life and another chance to count it all joy.

Pray: God, help me to rejoice in all things great and small and remember why today is called the present.

Luke 15:8

“Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?

Keep Running

Lord, I’m running, trying to make a hundred, because ninety-nine and a half just will not do. Most people are content with ninety-nine sheep or coins, but Jesus expounds on the importance of returning to get the lost one. While ninety-nine is good, it is clearly not “God enough.” The Scripture tells us how important it is not to simply settle but to give our very best while expecting the very best from a God who is good and faithful.

When we give our very best, God is glorified. As his light shines through us, others can see God working in us, and it leads them to want to know more about Jesus. The more people want to know and are willing to listen, the more they desire to be saved. The more saved souls we have, the more kingdom work can be done. Yes, I am going to keep running and searching until I make one hundred.

Pray: Lord, give me the strength to keep running for your glory and my good.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

The Power Of Gratitude

Gratitude is powerful because it changes our perspective. When we choose to give thanks, even in difficult situations, we acknowledge God’s sovereignty and goodness. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we shift our attention to God’s faithfulness and constant provision in our lives. This act of thanksgiving doesn’t just change our minds it changes our hearts. When we express gratitude, we invite God’s peace into our lives, helping us see the good God is working through every situation.

Pray: Lord, help me cultivate a heart of gratitude in all circumstances even when life feels difficult.

Romans 13:1

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God.

Honoring Civic Sacrifice

Civic sacrifice often goes unnoticed, yet it plays a crucial role in the fabric of our communities. Whether through military service, public office, or community leadership, many individuals dedicate their lives to serving others, often at great personal cost. Romans 13:1 reminds us that all authority is established by God, and those who serve in these roles are fulfilling a divine purpose.

As we reflect on those who have made civic sacrifices, let us honor their commitment to the greater good. Their willingness to stand up for justice, uphold the law, and protect the rights of others reflects God’s love in action. These individuals often face challenges, opposition, and the weight of responsibility, yet they persist out of a sense of duty and service.

Honoring civic sacrifice also calls us to engage in our communities actively. We can support local leaders, volunteer for community initiatives, and advocate for those who serve us. By doing so, we show our appreciation for their sacrifices and contribute to building a better society.

Pray: Lord, thank you for those who sacrifice for the good of our communities.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not regretfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

The Joy of Giving

Giving is a powerful expression of love and faith. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, we are reminded that God values the heart behind our giving. It’s not about the amount or what others think, but about the joy and willingness we bring to it. When we give cheerfully, we reflect God’s generosity, for He gave us the greatest gift His Son, Jesus Christ.

Giving can take many forms: time, resources, encouragement, or service. Every act of giving is an opportunity to extend God’s love to others and to honor God. Often, when we give out of love, we also receive in unexpected ways. The joy that comes from giving flows from knowing that we are participating in God’s work on earth, blessing others as God has blessed us.

At times, giving may stretch us or feel sacrificial. Yet, those moments of selflessness deepen our trust in God’s provision. When we release what we have into God’s hands, we are reminded that everything we have belongs to God anyway. He supplies all our needs, and as we give, God continues to pour out His abundance.

Pray: Lord, may my giving reflect your love and generosity, bringing glory to your name.

Proverbs 3:9

Honor the Lord with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce

Financial GivingAs Worship

Giving financially is an act of worship and trust. Proverbs 3:9 reminds us to honor God with our wealth, acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. When we give back to God, we are recognizing God’s provision and lordship over our lives. Financial giving allows us to participate in God’s work, supporting ministries, helping those in need, and advancing the gospel.

It can be difficult to give when we feel uncertain about our own needs. However, giving isn’t just about what we can afford, but about trusting God to provide. When we give generously, even in faith, we are declaring our dependence on God rather than our bank accounts. God promises to supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19).

God loves a cheerful giver, and giving should come from a place of gratitude, not obligation. Whether through tithing, offerings, or helping others in need, financial giving becomes a way to express our thankfulness for all God has done for us.

Pray: Lord, teach me to give with a heart of gratitude and faith, trusting in your provision.

Generosity Reflects God’s Heart

Generosity begins with God. His love for us was expressed through the ultimate act of giving He gave His Son, Jesus, to save us. When we are generous, we reflect the heart of God, demonstrating love and selflessness in tangible ways. True generosity is not measured by the size of the gift but by the willingness to give sacrificially, just as Jesus gave everything for us. When we give, whether it’s our time, resources, or kindness, we become part of God’s redemptive work in the world.

2 Timothy 1:7 for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.

The Power Of Self-Control

Self-control is one of the fruits of the Spirit, a sign of spiritual maturity and strength. In 2 Timothy 1:7, Paul reminds us that God has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-control, equipping us to navigate life's challenges and temptations. Cultivating self-control allows us to respond to situations with wisdom and grace rather than reacting impulsively or being swayed by our desires.

In a world filled with distractions and pressures, self-control becomes increasingly important. Whether it’s controlling our thoughts, managing our emotions, or making wise choices regarding our time and resources, self-control helps us live intentionally and purposefully. It enables us to align our actions with our values and priorities, fostering a life that honors God.

When faced with temptation, we can draw on the power of the Holy Spirit to strengthen our resolve. Prayer, scripture, and accountability with others can help us build our self-control. Remember, exercising self-control is not a sign of weakness; it’s a testament to our reliance on God’s strength and guidance in our lives.

Pray: Lord, remind me of your power at work within me and help me make choices that honor you.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals ”

The Weight Of Gluttony

Gluttony is often associated with overindulgence in food, but it extends beyond the dinner table. It encompasses a lack of self-control and an insatiable desire for more more food, more comfort, more distractions. While enjoying good food is a gift from God, gluttony can lead us away from a life of balance and moderation, causing us to lose sight of what truly satisfies.

1 Corinthians 15:33 serves as a reminder that our choices reflect our values. When we allow gluttony to take root, we risk compromising our health, relationships, and spiritual well-being. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), and we are called to honor God with how we treat them. Overindulgence can lead to physical, emotional, and spiritual fatigue, robbing us of the energy needed to serve others and fulfill our purpose.

In moments of temptation, we can turn to God, seeking God’s strength to practice self-control. Instead of filling ourselves with excess, we can fill our hearts with God’s Word and pursue the abundant life God offers.

Pray: Lord, teach me to seek fulfillment in you rather than in food or material things; grant me self-control .

Psalm 139:23

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts

Reflecting On Life’s Journey

Taking time to reflect on our lives is an essential practice for spiritual growth and self-awareness. Psalm 139:23 invites us to invite God into our reflections, encouraging us to examine our hearts and thoughts. This process allows us to gain insights into our motivations, choices, and the direction we are heading.

When we pause to reflect, we can identify areas where we’ve experienced God’s faithfulness, moments of joy, and even times of struggle. Each experience shapes us and offers lessons that can deepen our faith. Reflecting on our journey helps us recognize patterns in our lives what brings us peace and joy, and what leads to anxiety or discontent.

Moreover, reflecting on life also invites us to consider our future. Are we aligning our lives with God’s purpose for us? Are we using our gifts and resources to serve God and others?

In these moments of reflection, we can ask God for clarity and direction, trusting that God will guide us on the path He has set before us.

Pray: Lord, show me where I need to grow, and remind me of your faithfulness in my past.

Psalm 136:1

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

AHeart Of Thanksgiving

This season is an invitation to live with a heart of gratitude. Psalm 136:1 reminds us to give thanks because God is good, and God’s love endures forever. No matter what we face, this truth remains: God’s goodness and love never waver. As many will gather with family and friends, it’s a time to pause and reflect on the blessings God has poured into our lives.

Gratitude shifts our focus. When we take time to thank God, we move from dwelling on our struggles to recognizing God’s faithfulness. Even in the midst of difficulties, there is always something to be grateful for: God’s provision, presence, and promises that never fail. Gratitude also opens our hearts to see God’s hand in both the big and small moments of life. It cultivates contentment, helping us appreciate what we have instead of focusing on what we lack.

Today, remember that your blessings aren’t meant for you alone. As you give thanks, you are called to extend generosity and love to those around you. Just as God has abundantly blessed you, you are invited to share that abundance with others whether through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or giving to those in need.

Pray: Lord, help me cultivate a heart of gratitude, not just during this season but every day, and show me how I can be a blessing to others.

When we place our trust in God, we are reminded that even in the darkest moments, God is at work. Our circumstances may shift, but God’s faithfulness remains constant. As we embrace this hope, it overflows into our lives, empowering us to be beacons of light to others who may be struggling

Pray: God help me to be a source of encouragement to others today.

John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.

Here Comes The Light Of The World

In a world often shrouded in darkness, it is a profound comfort to remember that Jesus is the light of the world. John 1:5 reminds us that no matter how dark our circumstances may seem, the light of Christ shines brightly, illuminating our paths and dispelling the shadows of despair. His light brings hope, guidance, and a promise that darkness will never prevail.

As we encounter challenges in our lives whether personal struggles, societal issues, or global crises we can cling to the truth that Jesus is with us. His light reveals truth, offers healing, and brings clarity amidst confusion. We are called to reflect His light in our own lives, sharing His love and hope with those around us.

When we shine our light, we not only experience the warmth of His presence but also become instruments of His grace in the lives of others. Each act of kindness, every word of encouragement, and every moment of love shared reflects His light and brings hope to those who are lost in darkness.

Pray: Lord, help me to reflect your light in my life, bringing hope and love to those around me.
