Psalm 78:4

We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord and his might and the wonders that he has done.

Celebrating Black History: Honoring God’s Work Through His People

Black History Month is a time to celebrate the remarkable contributions of African Americans, honoring their resilience, faith, and impact on history. It is also a reminder of God’s faithfulness in times of struggle and God’s power to bring transformation through those who trust God.

From the abolition of slavery to the Civil Rights Movement, God has worked through courageous individuals who stood for justice, equality, and love. Their stories inspire us to continue fighting against injustice while walking in faith and unity. Galatians 3:28 reminds us that, in Christ, we are one bound not by race or status but by God’s love.

Let us deepen our commitment to honor God by pursuing justice, equity, and reconciliation in our communities. Celebrate the victories of the past while embracing the call to be instruments of hope and change for the future.

Pray: Lord, thank you for the rich heritage of black history and the faithful individuals who have made lasting impacts. Help us honor their legacy by loving others, standing for justice, and walking in unity. Amen.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

There is Still Hope

Lately, I have felt as though our world is heading for disaster, plagued by wars, poverty, drought, death, violence, homelessness, dangerous leadership, and a plethora of rude, mean people…you name it.

Once, as I attempted to board my train, I discovered that all of the escalators were shut off and the elevator was nowhere to be found. Determined to make my way up, I started to climb the stairs with my suitcase, purse, and laptop. However, by the fifth step, I felt overwhelmed and ready to give up I wanted to cry. Just then, a young man noticed my struggle, lifted my suitcase, and carried it to the upper landing, encouraging me to take my time. Shortly after, another fellow passenger helped me by carrying it onto the train. I was so grateful! Just when my last grains of hope were slipping away, God provided me with new seeds of hope.

Today’s scripture inspires us to keep moving forward each day. While the world seems to have shifted on its axis, God ensures that we don’t stray off our path or lose hope by sending support and reassurance just when we are on the verge of giving up.

Let us remain determined not to let the negativity we witness, which contradicts the Word of God, throw us off course. Instead, we should hold onto those grains and seeds of hope, deeply rooted in our shifting faith. Let us not give up or give in, but rather hold steady with hope.

Pray: Lord, thank you for the many seeds of hope that are planted through the generosity of others. Amen.

Isaiah 40:28

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

The Weight Of The World Is Not Our Portion

When we face dilemmas that shake our financial, educational, environmental, spiritual, social, mental, and political well-being, it feels like an earthquake in the depths of our very soul. The interruption is so great that it causes the brain to be jolted, the heart to skip a beat, the knees to become weak, a lump to form in the throat and pause the ability to swallow, and even provoke tears to flow like a river down our faces in horror, yet we remember: we serve a God that does not change.

We cannot always understand as we search high and low to find immediate answers to our many questions. God, why did this happen? God, how did this happen? God, when will this end? God, where are you? God, can you not see the trouble we are in?

Beloved, no matter what interruptions, changes, or disappointments we face, we know that our God, does not change. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I the Lord, do not change…” (NRSV). So, we must wait on the Lord! (Isaiah 40:31). Then we must allow the Holy Spirit to direct us.

The weight of the world is not our portion. It is God’s. We do not need to be heavily laden by the things of this world, it is not our portion. Just like eagles, who ride the wind currents without tiring themselves out, we can ride on God’s strength. It means we don’t have to rely on our own power to get through hard times; we can lean on God. God bears all for us.

Pray: Lord, thank you for being my burden bearer and a heavy load sharer. Amen.

John 2:1-10

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to me and to you? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the person in charge of the banquet.” So they took it. 9 When the person in charge tasted the water that had become wine and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), that person called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

Jesus Christ Is The Answer So Let’s Obey Him

Today’s scripture centers on the wedding celebration in Cana. Mary, the Mother of Jesus calls him to demonstrate his sovereignty. Though Jesus responds that it's not yet his time, his mother went back and told the servants that they to do whatsoever Jesus tells them. The servants obeyed and Jesus changed the water, producing the best wine. Hallelujah!

All can be done easily if we follow Jesus’ direction. The servants followed the Jesus’ instructions, and the result was more than was expected. It is time for us to follow Jesus in the same way. When we do, we benefit. It is good to listen to the word of God because it is what gives us exactly what we need (and often want). Rather than depend on people rather we should first ask Jesus Christ what we and at the right time he will answer.

Pray: Lord, thank you for your willingness to answer; give me the courage to obey. Amen.

Isaiah 41:10

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Don’t Give Up, Trust God

When you go to church every Sunday morning and attend other church functions, do you believe this will fix your situation? Some do, and they often become disenfranchised when “the church” does not fix their problem. However, I have come to know that the only one who can fix our problems is God our refuge and ever-present help in times of trouble.

God is our place of safety and protection. And when we feel overwhelmed or threatened, God offers us shelter from the storms of life, a haven where we can find comfort and peace. We are living in the end times, and it seems that all hope is lost but our hope is anchored in knowing that the joy of the Lord is our strength. Remember today: the joy of the Lord is your deep contentment and peace in knowing and trusting God. This is the source of your strength to overcome all struggles.

Pray: Lord, help me to look you for the strength I need today. Amen.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Our Solid Rock

There is no storm that God won't carry you through, no bridge that God won't help you to cross, no battle that God won't help you to win, and no heartache that God won't help you let go of. God is so much bigger than anything you will ever face, so leave everything in God’s hands and embrace each day one at a time knowing that God will take care of you.

Pray: Lord, thank you for being an ever-present help in the time of trouble. Amen.

2 Peter 1:1-3

1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith as equally honorable as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence.

Press For The Prize

Peter reminds us that God is the provider of all things we need for our lives. It assures us that God has provided everything we need pertaining to life and godliness through God’s divine power. In a world of uncertainty, we must remain focused on what matters for us, our Savior Jesus Christ. We must know to stay focused through prayer, praise and pressing our way day by day. Our prayers and praise are how we press toward the mark Paul writes about in Philippians 3:14.

When we know that Jesus Christ is the prize by which we divinely obtain all things for our lives we should understand that the prize is worth the press.

Pray: Lord, help me to remain focused on the prize that matters. Amen.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The

Gift Of God’s Word

Life can often feel like a maze of some sort. We never really know the direction that it will take us. As we embark upon this journey called life, it becomes clear that a road map, instructions or directions of some sort is much needed. We begin to realize that guidance is needed and necessary, and there are benefits when accepting it from our Lord.

Today’s scripture teaches us about the gift that we have in God’s Word as we embrace the life we have been blessed to live in Christ Jesus. It reminds God’s people to embrace the opportunity to consistently seek God through God’s Word daily. It reiterates to us that God’s word will light our path, lead us in life, and guide us as we seek to fulfill his purpose and plan for our life. If we have questions throughout life’s journey; God can and will provide answers, and they can be found within the contents of God’s Word.

Often, the pathway to God’s promises may seem unclear, but God has provided the BIBLE: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth for us to follow. However, it is up to us, as disciples of Jesus Christ, to follow what’s been provided.

Today, make the decision to not only seek God through God’s Word, but to follow the contents of God’s Word as he provides revelation concerning how we should not only live in life, but how we can live our very best life in Christ Jesus.

Pray: Lord, help me to be more diligent in reading the word of God. Amen.

1 Peter 5:10-11

10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

Persistence and Perseverance

Perhaps you have lost someone that was very near and dear to you or everything that you’ve worked hard to establish has been destroyed, or no matter what you are doing you continue to struggle financially and “the bottom of your world seems to have fallen out.” Be patient and hold on to God’s unchanging hand.

Job was blameless and upright. He feared God and did not do any evil. Job was blessed with seven sons, three daughters, seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five thousand donkeys, and many servants. Within a few short days everything Job had was taken away from him (Gone! Just like that.) And, if that was not enough, he was afflicted with sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. His wife wanted him to curse God, and his friends thought he was crazy. Job was patient. He never gave up hope. He always trusted in the Lord. Job was forced to endure what many of us can't imagine. But, through it all he was persistent in prayer and persevered in his suffering.

When Job suffered for a while, the Lord God Almighty blessed him with two times more than what he had in the beginning. When all hope is gone, don’t give up and don’t give in. Pray without ceasing and know that through your persistence and perseverance, the Lord will bring it to pass.

Pray: Lord, thank you for strengthening and renewing me daily. Amen.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.

Community

In the body of Christ, community is not just a blessing; it’s a necessity. Paul reminds us that “just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” Each of us has a unique role to play in the body, and together, we make up something far greater than the sum of our individual parts.

Community provides the strength and encouragement we need to grow in faith. In Hebrews 10:2425, we are urged to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” and “not give up meeting together… but encourage one another.” Through shared experiences, we reflect God’s love and build each other up.

Remember, we are never meant to walk alone. Let’s embrace community, support one another, and grow together in Christ’s love.

Pray: Lord, help me to be an active part of the body, building up others and reflecting your love. Amen.

Ephesians 6:1-4

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” this is the first commandment with a promise 3 “so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Family Values

Family is a gift from God, designed to be a place of love, support, and growth. Paul instructs children to “honor your father and mother,” and parents to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” This reciprocal relationship is the foundation for healthy family dynamics.

God calls us to model love in our homes through patience, kindness, and forgiveness. Colossians 3:13 encourages us to “bear with each other and forgive one another… as the Lord forgave you.” In doing so, we reflect Christ’s grace and foster unity.

Families are not perfect, but when we live according to God’s principles, we create an environment where love thrives. Let’s make it a priority to cultivate strong family values based on trust, respect, and faith, understanding that the home is where we first learn to love like Christ.

Pray: Lord, strengthen my family and help us reflect your love in all we do. Amen.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is an African philosophy that means “I am because we are.” It reflects the interconnectedness of all people and emphasizes the importance of community, compassion, and shared humanity. Paul encourages us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Ubuntu aligns with this call to live in selfless love, understanding that our well-being is linked to the well-being of others.

Jesus modeled this perfectly, showing that love isn’t just about us individually it’s about how we serve and uplift one another. In John 13:34-35, he commands, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples.”

True community thrives when we live out Ubuntu, recognizing that we are all connected and called to support one another in love.

Pray: Lord, help me to live out Ubuntu, loving others as you have loved me. Amen.

The Faith OfAllen

Richard Allen was a pioneer of faith, justice, and courage in early America. Born into slavery, he eventually purchased his freedom and became a powerful leader in the church and the fight for African American rights. As the founder of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, Allen sought to create a space where Black believers could worship freely and serve God with dignity. His work reflects the heart of, where God commands, “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.”

Allen's faith was a driving force in his activism. He understood that loving God and loving others were not separate but intertwined with the fight for justice. He boldly took a stand for equality, refusing to accept the systemic oppression of his time.

Richard Allen’s legacy challenges us to live with faith and courage in the face of injustice, trusting that God calls us to be God’s hands and feet in the world.

Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to stand for justice and live out my faith boldly, like Richard Allen. Amen.

Colossians 3:23

Whatever task you must do, work as if your soul depends on it, as for the Lord and not for humans.

Excellence In Our Goal

Excellence isn't about perfection but about giving our best in everything we do as an act of worship. Whether in our jobs, relationships, or daily responsibilities, God calls us to honor God through diligence and integrity. Excellence requires discipline, focus, and reliance on God's strength. Proverbs 22:29 reminds us, "Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings." When we pursue excellence, we reflect God's character, inspire others, and position ourselves for greater opportunities.

However, true excellence begins with humility, recognizing that our abilities come from God. As we seek God’s guidance and depend on God, our work becomes a testimony of God’s grace. Today, aim to glorify God through excellence, knowing God delights in our wholehearted efforts.

Pray: Lord, help me to model your humility today. Amen.

Standing For Justices

Protesting for justice aligns with God’s heart for righteousness and fairness. Throughout the Bible, God’s people are encouraged to defend the oppressed and seek justice for the marginalized. Jesus himself challenged systems of injustice, showing compassion to the outcasts and confronting those in power when they misused their authority.

When protesting, it’s important to keep our hearts aligned with God’s will, seeking God’s guidance. Ephesians 4:26 reminds us, “In your anger, do not sin.” As we advocate for change, let us be driven by love, truth, and a desire for reconciliation. Trust that God sees your efforts and will work through them to bring about God’s justice and peace.

Psalm 145:4

One generation shall extol your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.

Generational Unity In Christ

God’s design for us includes unity across generations. Each generation brings unique experiences, wisdom, and energy that, when combined, strengthen the body of Christ.

Generational unity is vital for building a thriving community of faith. The older generation provides guidance, encouragement, and a legacy of God’s faithfulness, while the younger generation offers fresh vision, passion, and creativity. Together, they reflect God’s purpose and ensure God’s truth is carried forward.

Ephesians 4:3 urges us to "make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." This unity requires humility, mutual respect, and a willingness to learn from one another. Today, seek opportunities to bridge generational gaps. Listen, share, and pray together, knowing that God delights in God’s people walking in harmony.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Upholding Our Ideals In Christ

As believers, we are called to uphold the ideals of God’s Kingdom, living according to God’s truth and righteousness.

Our ideals shape our decisions and actions. In a world filled with distractions and opposing values, staying true to God's principles requires intentionality and strength. Jesus demonstrated perfect integrity and moral clarity, showing us how to live by higher standards.

By holding fast to God's Word and God’s calling, we reflect God’s character in every aspect of our lives.

Pray: Lord, help me to uphold your ideals, live with integrity, and reflect your truth in a world that needs it. Amen.
