93rd Graduation On June 3, the Class of 2018 graduated in Graduation Grove. Gina Hoagland, president of the Board of Trustees, introduced the speakers. Anne Martin (Fine Arts chair) delivered the invocation and benediction; William Howlett ’18 and Alison Gill ’18 spoke for and to their class; and Head of School Andy Abbott delivered remarks and presented diplomas. After the commencement and a brief reception, festivities for graduates and their guests continued on campus.

The Class of 2018 chose John Merritt (History; PE/Athletics) as its Senior Assembly speaker. Donning a cap and gown to mark the occasion, Merritt said, “I am sad to say that my generation has created the most divided America since the Civil War. And we don’t seem to have any real capacity to change that.” He told seniors to seize their chance to make things better. “Turn to your neighbor and say, ‘I know this is my chance in life. And I am going to make the most of it right now.’ Do not miss your opportunity.” Senior class president Sam Holmes also spoke as did Head of School Andy Abbott.
