UNVEILING THE PAST

Crafting an Ancient Chinese Book for ‘Lierra’

LLONA

Last year, in December 2022, we started working on the book for the film. Our goal was to make the book visually appealing and aligned with the ancient Chinese era. Despite it being the Christmas break, most of us were committed to the project. Initially, it was challenging to achieve the desired look for the book, but we supported and assisted each other throughout the process. Together, we managed to complete the book before the given deadline, and the final outcome exceeded our expectations. Making this book taught me that teamwork and determination can overcome any obstacles that come our way.

Reflecting on that time, I realized the journey wasn’t easy, but our collective efforts and belief in ourselves made it smoother. I discovered my own potential and capabilities. Trusting in oneself and having the support of a team are

CATENA, MERWIN

In our Introduction to World Religions and Beliefs class, we were tasked with creating a film that explored different religions. Our assigned religion was Taoism, and I was responsible for handling one of the props, which was the Taoism book. Fortunately, I had a team to support me in this task. Editing the book proved challenging due to the numerous chapters involved. However, thanks to our team’s mutual respect and understanding, we successfully completed the editing and production of the book within a week and three days.

Participating in this task taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of teamwork and effective communication in achieving group goals. Our successful collaboration was a result of our ability to work together and communicate effectively.

TO THE PAST

Unveiling Traditional Attire for ‘Lierra’

BARBADO

For our project on Introduction to World’s Religious Beliefs and Systems (IWRBS), I took on the responsibility of searching for attires and other necessary items to enhance the production of our short film. I recognized the importance of creating an authentic and visually captivating experience for our audience.

To find the attires and props, I explored various resources, including the Facebook Marketplace. Through this platform, I connected with individuals selling Chinese ancient-themed items that could perfectly fit our project’s requirements. I carefully reviewed the listings, comparing prices, quality, and relevance to our film’s setting.

In addition to online platforms, I also ventured to the downtown market in our area. This bustling market offered a treasure trove of unique and culturally

significant items. I enjoyed immersing myself in the vibrant atmosphere, searching for the perfect pieces that would bring our film to life. Engaging with local vendors allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the ancient Chinese culture and its intricate details.

Creating a short film that serves as an introduction to the world’s religious beliefs and systems is an opportunity to celebrate the rich tapestry of human spirituality. Through the lens of compassion and artistic vision, it becomes a testament to the beauty that emerges when diverse beliefs are united by a shared quest for truth, meaning, and love.

Furthermore, I was assigned as one of the creators responsible for crafting another ancient book.

Shy Beginnings,

The production of this short film began in the last week of December 2022 and continued into the first month of 2023. DALANON was cast as the uncle of Lierra, while ANTONES participated in the movie as an extra. Despite having limited roles, both DALANON and ANTONES recognized the value of their contributions to the film.

DALANON, having prior experience in short films, acknowledged that their role in this particular film was not significant. Nevertheless, they approached their part with dedication and overcame obstacles that could have hindered their work. DALANON also appreciated the opportunity to spend enjoyable moments with their colleagues during the production process. Ultimately, their collective efforts aimed to create a short film that would bring enjoyment to the viewers.

Shared Success

ANTONES, joined the movie production as part of their Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems subject. Despite being a shy person, ANTONES realized that shyness would not help them develop themselves or achieve their dreams in life. Participating in activities like filmmaking and interacting with fellow students helped ANTONES break out of their shell. Although their scene was revised and they were not included in the final movie, ANTONES expressed happiness in seeing the well-done and beautiful film being shared on YouTube, where it garnered the attention of many viewers.

Through the Lens of Taoism

Filming ‘Lierra’ and the Power of Teamwork

Being a cameraman in this project was an extraordinary experience for me. It allowed me to interact with more people and improve my socialization skills. It also enhanced my critical thinking abilities, which I applied in various ways. This film enabled me to recognize my capabilities in this field. The role of a cameraman is crucial as it requires capturing ideal shots for each scene to achieve the best outcome. Despite the challenges, such as shooting in direct sunlight and the timeconsuming nature of the process, I discovered that when you enjoy what you’re doing, exhaustion and boredom fade away. This activity taught me the significance of teamwork, emphasizing that working together is key to success.

Looking back on our presentation of “Lierra” for IWRBS, I gained a deeper insight into the impact it had on me. As a cameraman, I faced various technical challenges, such as working in low-light conditions and managing focus and exposure. We worked in different locations and adhered to tight schedules. Throughout the shoot, I collaborated closely with the director, actors, and other crew members to effectively capture the scenes. This activity highlighted the importance of group cooperation. It was a memorable experience for me as we learned new things and fostered unity and appreciation for the leaders’ plans. Supporting each other and showcasing our skills while actively participating were crucial aspects of this activity. It instilled a sense of responsibility, leadership, and teamwork in all participants, contributing to the successful execution of the project. The activity underscored the value of teamwork, communication, and working together to achieve common goals.
