“I believe it shouldn’t be hard to find high-quality care for your ear, nose, throat, and allergy issues. I understand what it is like to go from provider to provider and still not find relief. That’s why I created a high-quality, spa-like clinic to help everyone put allergy suffering and ENT issues behind them.”

Fifteen years ago, when TerraBella was little more than sandy lots and hopeful dreams, Julie and Paul Richardson took a leap of faith. They were the second family to move into the neighborhood, breaking ground on what would become their children’s first home. Today, their TerraBella leap of faith has blossomed into a beautiful life filled with family, community connections, and lots of memory-making.
Julie and Paul both work at Entergy Services Inc.: Julie in IT Performance Management and Paul in Work Management. Their story began at the University of New Orleans, where shared classes and collaborative projects grew into a friendship, and eventually, a relationship. This August, they’ll celebrate 26 years of marriage.
After Hurricane Katrina destroyed their first home in St. Bernard, the Richardsons sought a fresh start on the
Northshore. A friend had introduced Julie to the charm of River Ranch in Lafayette, and she fell in love with the concept of a Traditional Neighborhood Development. When she discovered TerraBella was modeled after that very idea, the couple visited River Ranch together to experience it firsthand. They were immediately drawn to the concept of walkable streets, porches, parks, and community events. Though Paul was skeptical at first, thinking the charming concert photos were staged, they soon discovered the vision was real. “We hoped and prayed that TerraBella would one day look and feel like River Ranch,” Julie shares. “Now, it does, and we’re so proud to be part of it.”
The Richardsons’ home reflects the warmth of their family. The dining room is their favorite space, anchored by a handcrafted sinker cypress table from Honey Rock Farms. It’s where the Richardsons gather nightly to eat dinner,
spending time at home, the Richardsons are happiest when they’re together. When asked to describe her family in one word, Julie easily answers, explaining, “I would describe our family as connected, which reflects our strong sense of togetherness, supporting each other through life’s milestones, enjoying time spent with one another, and creating lasting memories.”
but also serves as the setting for playing games, building LEGO creations, and creating everyday moments that become fond memories. But their newly renovated backyard is where they unwind together: a pool, outdoor kitchen, putting green, and raised garden beds offer something for everyone.
Mason, 11, and Sydney, 8, both attend St. Peter Catholic School and shine in and out of the classroom. Mason is a straight-A student who received the Pope John Paul II award and loves playing competitive soccer and golf with his dad. Sydney, also an Honor Roll student, recently earned the St. John Bosco award. She plays Academy soccer and is starting to show an interest in golf.
The family dog, Beau, a sweet 15-year-old double doodle, completes the household. Whether they’re cheering at the soccer fields, enjoying ice cream at TCBY, or simply
Weekends might find the Richardsons at Haiku for hibachi, for Mason and Sydney’s dining choices, or on a date night where Paul might opt for his favorite lasagna from Impastato’s Cellar. Julie loves shopping local at Niche, The Southern Curator, and Hazel Lane, while Academy Sports is a go-to for the boys. Sydney enjoys browsing Target, Hobby Lobby, and Blossom Girl.
Some of the Richardson family’s favorite vacation destinations include Disney and the beautiful beaches of Sandestin, Florida. This year, they’re especially excited about taking their first Disney cruise, something the kids are eagerly anticipating. And, there is a special trip planned to Atlantis in the Bahamas to celebrate Paul’s birthday.
No matter where their travels take them, the Richardsons always look forward to returning to their TerraBella home. “It’s hard to believe we’ve been here 15 years,” Julie reflects. “So many family memories that have been made with the kids are all in this lovely subdivision that we get to call home.”
An estate plan, your Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorney, is not something you create once and forget. It’s a living strategy meant to evolve with your life. Whether you’re building a legacy, protecting loved ones, or planning for peace of mind, knowing when to revisit your plan is key.
At Arena Collective, we often tell clients: “If your life changes, your plan may too.” Below are key moments when a review may be necessary.
1. Marriage, Divorce, or Remarriage
Major relationship changes should immediately trigger an update. You will want to revise your will, update beneficiaries, and make sure your new family structure is properly reflected in your wishes.
2. Birth or Adoption of a Child or Grandchild
Adding a new loved one to the family means updating your plan to include guardianship, education provisions, and future inheritance.
3. Children Leaving the Home
When your children move out—whether for college, work, or independence—it is a good time to revisit guardianship provisions, reconsider financial strategies, and ensure your estate reflects your new phase of life.
4. Children Reaching Adulthood (Age 18+)
Once your children become legal adults, they need their own basic estate planning documents—like healthcare powers of attorney—and your own plan may shift from guardianship to inheritance and financial responsibility.
5. Major Financial Changes
Whether you’ve sold a business, inherited money, or purchased significant property, these changes may affect your tax exposure, asset protection strategy, and charitable goals.
6. Relocation to a New State
Estate laws vary by state. Moving—especially to or from Louisiana—can impact how your will or trust is interpreted, and which laws apply to your estate.
7. The Loss of a Loved One
If a spouse, child, or someone named in your documents passes away, your plan should be reviewed to adjust beneficiaries and fiduciary roles.
8. Changes in Health
A diagnosis or decline in health, especially for yourself or your spouse, should prompt a review of powers of attorney, advance medical directives, and Medicaid planning options.
9. Every 3–5 Years (Even Without Major Life Changes)
Tax laws change. So do estate planning strategies. A regular check-in with a qualified attorney ensures your plan still accomplishes your goals and reflects your values.

Human Performance is more than a gym; it’s a mission in motion. What began as owner CJ Bernius’ personal journey as a young wrestler hungry for self-improvement has evolved into a thriving community centered on health, discipline, and growth. After earning his degree in Fitness and Human Performance, CJ set out to create a space that would challenge the traditional gym model’s status quo.
The foundation for Human Performance originated from a realization. “I saw cafes selling fried chicken, trainers who lacked discipline themselves, and outdated equipment collecting dust on lifeless fitness floors. It became clear—we needed something better,” CJ declared. Human Performance is something better.
Offering 24-hour access, Human Performance also features group fitness classes and personalized training programs that cater to members at every level of fitness.
What sets Human Performance apart, however, is the atmosphere, which incorporates a team united in leadership and a space where everyone feels supported and inspired.

In 1982, when Covington only had one red light, at Claiborne Hill on Hwy 190, Dr. Rusty Maher rented an old house at the corner of 11th and Tyler St from Marcel Valois. Dr. Rusty had graduated from LSU Vet School the year prior and had decided the Northshore was the place to build his business. Mr. Valois and Dr. Rusty became fast friends, and together, they renovated the wooden shotgun house into a small veterinary clinic.
Rusty was working as an associate vet in New Orleans and renovating the new clinic on the weekends, and his mom, Mary, and then his girlfriend, now wife, Diana tore out the landscaping and created a parking lot.
His first exam table came from his father’s medical practice in New Orleans. Dr. Fred Maher Jr., a well-known general surgeon, had his office on Napoleon Avenue. Rusty lived in the clinic for his first year after opening! He would often let the boarding dogs sleep with him to quiet the barking and get some sleep!
Over the years, Dr. Rusty brought home plenty of patients for overnight monitoring and treatment. Diana likes to point out that she was usually the one
changing the fluid bag at 1 a.m. For more than 15 years, Dr. Rusty handled his own emergencies, often with Diana’s help. It wasn’t unusual for them to load the kids, half-asleep, into the car and head to the clinic in the middle of the night. Once, on Christmas morning, the family of four went in early, before opening presents, to perform a C-section on a dachshund. Rusty performed surgery, Diana monitored anesthesia, and Katie and Kyle revived the puppies.
In 1998, Dr. Rusty started the addition to the original building. The addition is now the reception and waiting room. Previously, the reception and waiting rooms BOTH occupied the tiny room that is now the doctor’s offices.
We hope you enjoy this glimpse into the love, sweat, and tears that went into the building of Maher Animal Hospital. Our goal from the beginning has been to care for each pet that enters our doors as if it were our own, and we are honored to continue providing St. Tammany with quality medicine and sincere love for your pets!
Six months old, Sammie Simons has already carved out a big place in the hearts of his family, and in the TerraBella neighborhood. A long-haired, red-shaded miniature dachshund, Sammie joined the Simons family four months ago after daughter Emily spotted his irresistible face on a friend’s Facebook post. One look at those tiny legs and soulful eyes, and Lisa, Emily, and Allen Simons were smitten.
Sammie is a spirited little guy, full of personality and spunk. With a sweet nature and just the right amount of stubbornness, he’s become known for his sidewalk protests, where he plops down mid-walk when he’s decided he’s had enough. Though not a fan of long strolls, Sammie is a champion napper and a fan of snow, so it would seem. Adopted just before the recent rare local snowfall, Sammie got the chance to romp around in the winter wonderland, an unforgettable first adventure.
Each member of the family shares a special bond with
Sammie. Although Lisa is his person, he loves playing ball with Emily, gets excited when Allen comes home, but saves his biggest tail wags for Andrew, Emily’s boyfriend, and Sammie’s clear favorite.
Sammie may be small, but his presence is anything but. With his playful spirit, stubborn charm, and excitement for each member of the Simons family, he brings a lot of joy into their lives. From his snow-day adventures to his signature sidewalk sit-ins, Sammie keeps everyone on their toes.

For over 50 years, STARC Louisiana has been changing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Based in St. Tammany Parish, this organization offers a wide range of services, from early intervention programs for children to job training and residential support for adults. Their services promote independence and create opportunities.
STARC’s Mardi Gras bead recycling initiative is one unique and impactful program that generates crucial funds to sustain STARC’s many programs. If you have ever donated Mardi Gras beads to STARC and wondered what became of them, just know that your donation is life-changing for many. STARC participants clean, sort, and repackage thousands of donated beads each year, providing them with hands-on job training and employment opportunities. STARC then sells the repurposed beads to krewes and parade-goers. Not only does this effort support individuals with disabilities, but it also promotes environmental sustainability by reducing parade waste.
At its heart, STARC is about seeing abilities, not limitations. Through life skills training, creative arts programs, and meaningful employment opportunities, the organization helps individuals find purpose and fulfillment. The support of volunteers, donors, and businesses ensures that STARC can continue its mission, making a lasting influence in the community.
Whether donating beads, purchasing repackaged throws, or spreading the word, every small effort helps STARC provide opportunities for those it serves.
When it comes to building a home that works with the seasons, summer should lead the way. Smart design choices, such as deep overhangs, cross ventilation, and strategically placed windows, don’t just reduce cooling costs; they also keep your interiors naturally comfortable, even in the peak of the heat.
Don’t let your backyard be an afterthought. Covered patios, outdoor kitchens, and plunge pools aren’t just summer perks. They are lifestyle upgrades with serious resale value. Design your outdoor areas with the same care and intention as your indoor spaces.
Great summer homes don’t shut down when the seasons change. Think sliding glass walls, screened porches, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. These features keep your home open, airy, and adaptable, without sacrificing comfort when the temperature drops.
At J Hand Homes LLC, we’ve helped clients create custom homes that are built for the future: efficient, livable, and ready for every season. If you’re planning your next home, we’d love to talk and help you shape a path that fits your life.
