Yes, growing a fleet takes effort, but this does not have to be hard. Know that for most of us, we do this because we want to have fun. So start with this simple two-step process that focuses on the social stuff: 1. Reach out to non-Snipers, new-to-thefleeters or those who are familiar but your paths do not cross much. Get to know them - you do not need to be an extrovert or comedian. Ask how you can help them improve as a sailor - you do not need to be the fleet champion. 2. Repeat step 1 at least three times

US Nationals Winchester Boat Club, MA August 19-20 - Junior August 21-25 - Senior
At the recent meeting of the SCIRA USA Board of Directors a bid from the Winchester Boat Club was accepted for the 2017 US Snipe National Championship, the 2017 US Snipe Jr. National Championship, and the 2017 US Snipe Special Junior National Championship. The event, which will be co-hosted by Snipe Fleet #77, will take place August 19-25 with the Junior event being contested August 19-20 and the Seniors on August 21-25. According to the Mystic Lake Snipe Fleet Website racing will occur on “the Upper Mystic Lake, a ~3/4 mile wide body of fresh water 8 miles northwest of downtown Boston. The lake is the home of the perennial collegiate powerhouse Tufts sailing team and is well known for its shifty conditions and moderate breezes. “No-sail” days are rare in that there is usually enough wind to race and the ban on power boats (except race committee boats) makes for pleasant days on the water – at least until you get shnookered by a 90 degree shift and lose the entire fleet with 100 yards to go. The locals have grown to appreciate patience and to find warped amusement in watching visiting racers pull their hair out over the challenging conditions.” Regatta Chair Kevin Hetherington-Young is planning an excellent event and looks forward to seeing Snipe sailors from around the country converge on Mystic Lake for the championships. The Miami Women’s International Invite will be held in conjunction with the 2017 US Women’s Snipe Nationals in Miami, following the Miami World Cup Regatta. Racing will take place February 4th - 5th

SCIRA District 3 New Year, New Regatta, New Level of Energy District 3 is excited to announce a new twist on the classic Indiana Open regatta. The Indiana Open, hosted by Indianapolis Fleet 409, is rich in Snipe history. In recent years, the regatta has seen an uptick in attendance, and I think that we can all agree that in the sport of sailing, more boats on the line equals a heck of a lot more fun. With this in mind, we are not only ramping up our marketing efforts for our 2017 regatta, but we are doing two new things: 1) Changing the name of the regatta to the Windy 500 and 2) Merging our efforts with Laser Fleet 24 to host a large regional multi-class invitational. The Laser regatta typically has 40-50 boats on the line. The regatta will be held April 28-30, 2016. The regatta, as the name implies, is themed around the Indianapolis 500, one of the largest sporting events held in the world annually in our city. The regatta will bring the theme to a high note at the Saturday night party, a theme costume party. We will encourage everyone to dress either as a driver or fan (think cutoff jean shorts & cowboy hats made out of Budweiser Boxes).
