From Akiba to Eagles: Ari Roitman Loves What He Does Rosie Gertzman, Editor-in-Chief

Ari Roitman, a proud AkibaBarrack alum who graduated in ‘94, has since pursued a successful career in sports management, working first for the Phillies and currently the Eagles. Mr. Roitman has shared some insights into his life post-Akiba-Barrack and how the school was able to set him up for success. Most recently, Roitman spoke at the alumni’s “Young Professionals Networking Event” on May 10th, helping to inspire the younger generation to follow their dreams, just as he did. Ari Roitman, a Senior Vice President of Business for the Philadelphia Eagles, shared some of his thoughts with the Chronicle. What is your job and what are your responsibilities? My title is Senior Vice President Business and my job is to oversee a number of revenue streams for the Philadelphia Eagles. To give you an idea of what some of those revenue streams are, I oversee our Corporate Partnership Department, our Premium Partnership Department, as well as our media monetization strategies.

How, if at all, do you feel as though Akiba/Barrack set you up for success in the future? What, if any, clubs did you participate in at Akiba? Akiba was instrumental in helping to mold me into who I am today. For all of us, the home is where it’s most important, but Akiba complemented that upbringing perfectly. Academically, Akiba prepared me not only for college but also for life in helping to develop vital skills that are relevant to this day. Akiba helped instill a tremendous sense of personal identity and pride that is with me always. Regarding activities, I played three

If you are looking for a non-family answer, I’d say helping the careers of many young people I’ve had the privilege of overseeing in the sports business and watching them grow. As a business person, what is one piece of advice you would give your high school self? The toughest thing for young people (myself included) to grasp and accept is that “it’s a long life.” By that I mean, success does not happen quickly for most people, and accepting and understanding that reality is key to managing your own expectations. We all want to achieve our goals as quickly as tomorrow, but getting there takes time, patience and a ton of hard work. If you do things the right away, you’ll get there…but resist the urge to try to rush it.

What does it mean to you to work with the Eagles, having grown up in the greater Philadelphia area? For me, achieving a career in sports was my primary goal. Working for Major League Baseball for nine years, especially overlapping with the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series, was unreal. The opportunity to come home and work for the Eagles, however, is beyond anything I could have envisioned.
