Alexandria Dance Studio A Dance Studio on the Alexandria Waterfront Fall 2016 Virginia Tech, WAAC
Jodi La Coe + Matt Geiss Studio
A dance center designed to heighten building users’ awareness of personal movement, the movement of others, and of nature through the site. Challenges of the site, including the flood zone and building height requirements drive the design to embrace given conditions. Water flows onto the site, and building users flow out into the water, blurring the boundaries between where water and people belong along the Potomac River. WATERF=========

Pushing The Envelope
Restoration of Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Roma Spring 2012 The Ohio State University
Kay Bea Jones Studio Jasmine McNeil Kayle Langford Katie Mitchell
An art museum in Rome, Italy that has been abandoned for decades is infused with life again in this project. A semi-transparent Wacotech “envelope” is wrapped around the existing building to protect it from external forces and the existing structure is restored. However, influences from the surrounding area inevitably impact the envelope, pushing it into the existing building, creating dynamic spaces within a traditional structure. The skin is moveable in certain places to emphasize the dynamic nature of the renovation.
28
Academia, art, and local residences push through the envelope and manifest themselves into the building. nature has a similar impact.

Pre-Fab (Barn) Hab A Community Development in Rural OH Spring 2013 The Ohio State University
Isabela Gould Studio
A rural area is developed into a new community consisting of prefabricated barnhouses that capitalize on the most charming features of the typical barn type. Rather than eliminating square footage to create voids to accomodate features such as double height spaces, stairs and balconies, the floor plates are shifted. This project is a reinterpretation of the typical barn and a study in community planning in a region known for its complex topography.

This studio evolved from a study of breakdancing to an interactive built installation. The concept of two “battling teams” was manifested into our installation. The ramp in Ohio State’s Knowlton School of Architecture established two separate “territories” to be invaded by one another, similar to breakdance battles. Yellow strands on the blue side could be controlled from the yellow side, and vice versa. This installation consisted of over 3 miles worth of straws and was competely designed and fabricated by our team. A

weMake Chicago is a proposal to re-establish an old Chicago neighborhood as a center for industry. Built around the Jane Jacobs notion that, “[Rural] productivity is created upon a foundation of city productivity, our site reestablishes a lost link within the urban - industry enterprise. This project features: a consortium school, a work yard, makerspace, and R&D facilities. Final project included a masterplan as well as a pro-forma for our proposal.
