ABOUT THE SOLON JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Solon Jazz Orchestra is the top Jazz ensemble at Solon High School. It is under the direction of Desmond Cervantez, who is in his 26th year at Solon. Mr. C also directs a mariachi band at the school! They also have several home performances including their Coffee Shoppe Jazz Concert in the Spring.

ABOUT ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Hand is another teacher who has returned to her alma mater. She is an alumna of the Solon Jazz Orchestra and performed in the Corridor Jazz Project in high school. She graduated from Luther College and is the Director of Bands at Solon Middle School. She recently published what we think is the first book of jazz transcriptions for vibes. Essential Vibes Solos is a collection of solo transcriptions designed to honor the musicians that contributed to the legacy of jazz vibraphone in its earliest years.
