I am Jayant Negi, a 5th year architecture student. For me, architecture is the perception of the world, the ideation and the creation of better and livable spaces. It’s something that lets me explore beyond and add depths to my understanding. I constantly try to expand my horizons, curating and bringing the pieces of design to a palette, while seeking inspiration from the works that have brought a positive change in our surroundings. THE PROJECT AIMS TO CREATE A LEARNING SPACE FOR THE CHILDREN OF AGE GROUP 3-5YRS THAT WOULD ALSO SERVE AS AN EXTENSION TO THE ALREADY EXISTING ‘RAK NURSERY SCHOOL’.

THE DESIGN OF THE KINDERGARTEN SHOULD EMPLOY WOOD AS THE MAJOR CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL BRINGING OUT ITS ESSENCE AND PROPERTIES.

“THE IDEA OF THE KINDERGARTEN REVOLVES AROUND CREATING SPONTANEOUS ACTVITIES WITHIN ITS BUILT ENVIRONMENT. THE ORGANISATION OF THE CLASSROOMS ALLOWS FOR BOTH THE AGE GROUPS TO PLAY AND ENGAGE IN A COMMON SPACE.

MOREOVER, THE USE OF TIMBER AS A STRUCTURAL ELEMENT CREATES A WARM LEARNING EXPERIENCE WITHHOLDING THE IDEA OF A SUSTAINABLE AND MODULAR DESIGN”.

THE PROJECT BRIEF AIMS TO CRAFT A LAYER OF FUNCTIONS CONSIDERING THE IMMENSE CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF DELHI AND INDIA THAT CAN BE SEEN IN ITS LIFESTYLE, DEMOGRAPHY, MUSIC, ARTS AND CRAFTS.

“THE VISION OF THE PROJECT THROUGH ITS STRONG EDGE CONDITIONS IS TO BRING UP THIS IMMERSIVE CULTURAL EXPERIENCE WHILE INTEGRATING ART, TECHNOLOGY AND PUBLIC INTERACTION. THE EXPO WILL THUS PROVIDE LOCAL AND GLOBAL ARTISTS FROM DIFFERENT DOMAINS TO SHARE AND INTERACT THROUGH A COMMON PLATFORM”.

THE PROJECT AIMS TO CREATE AN ART CAFE AMIDST A HERITAGE LANDSCAPE OF THE CITY OF ORCHHA. THE PROGRAM REQUIRES A CAFE ALONG WITH AN ART/SOUVENIR SHOP WITH DISPLAY AND EXHIBITION AREAS.

“THE DESIGN BRINGS THE ESSENCE AND THE CULTURE OF THE CITY INTO THE ART CAFE THAT DICTATES THE SAME THROUGH ITS SPACES AND ITS ELEMENTS. PASSIVE MEASURES GUIDE THE THERMAL COMFORT WITHIN THE BUILT SPACES.

A CONTEMPORY DINING EXPERIENCE, DECORATED WITH TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS, FORMS AND DELIVERS AN ART-CAFE THAT IS IN HARMONY WITH ITS SURROUNDINGS ”.

CONCEPT AND STRATEGIES

A SERIES OF CUBOID VOLUMES LAID ON A CONTOURED SITE SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT ZONES.

THESE VOLUMES CREATE A SERIES OF OPEN AND CLOSED SPACES SUCH AS A COURTYARD THAT REFLECT THE CONTEXTUAL PRESENCE OF THE SITE.

CREATING A HEIRARCHY IN LEVELS AND HEIGHTS, THUS PROVIDING VARYING USER EXPERIENCE.

THE CHANGE IN HEIGHT ALSO HELPS IN MAINTAINIG CROSSVENTILATION DURING HOT SUMMERS.

THE SERIES OF CUBOID VOLUMES ARE ALIGNED TO GIVE VIEWS TO THE RIVER EVEN AFTER CHANGE IN LEVEL.

TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE LIKE JALI (IN BRICK) AND ARCHES REFLECT IN THE CAFE AND USED TO OBTAIN COOLING.

THE TRANSITIONAL SPACES ARE FORMED AND FRAMED BY THE USE OF SCREENS AND JALIS.

ADOPTING COURTYARD TYPOLOGY. SPLIT COURTYARDS HAVE BEEN USED AS AN OUTDOOR SEATING SPACE AND AS THE CENTER OF THE ART DISPLAY AREA. IT ALSO ACTS AS THE ENTRY LOBBY.

THE COMPETITION FOCUSES ON IDENTIFYING METAL OBJECTS THAT HAVE LONG BEEN FORGOTTEN, ARE IN A STATE OF RUINS AND REPURPOSE THESE OBJECTS INTO A FUNCTIONAL TYPOLOGY OF A RESIDENCE.

“LEFT IN PLACE, THE STRUCTURES OF ABANDONMENT ARE STRANGELY REASSURING, HAUNTING OUR MEMORIES AND REMINDING US OF A BYGONE ERA. THEY FORCE US TO CONFRONT NOT MERELY THE LOSS OF THEIR ORIGINAL FUNCTION BUT ALSO EVOKE A WIDE RANGE OF IDEAS FOR THEIR POSSIBLE FUTURE USE”.

“NUATAMBU IS AN ISLAND IN THE SOLOMON ISLANDS, WHICH IS ONE OF THE LEAST DENSELY POPULATED PACIFIC ISLAND NATIONS. DESPITE THE LOW POPULATION DENSITY, FINDING A SAFE PLACE TO CALL HOME HAS BECOME A CHALLENGE FOR SOME SOLOMON ISLANDERS. THE RISE IN SEA LEVELS DUE TO GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE HAVE LED THE PEOPLE TO ABANDON THEIR SHELTERS IN SEARCH FOR THE BETTER.

THE DESIGN INTENDS TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATE MODE OF LIVING THAT ALSO ACTS AS A SYMBOL OF CHANGE, OF SUSTENANCE AND OF A CONSTANT REMINDER OF THE PAST. IT INTENDS TO PROVIDE A RESILIENT LIVING ALONG THE COASTS THAT ALSO HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ADAPT AND TO EXPAND TO PROVIDE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY BY RETHINKING THE TYPOLOGIES OF THE SPACES AND RE-UTILISING WHAT IS LEFT”.

THE DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS THE USE OF THE TERRAIN WITH THE INFINITY POOL AND INTERNAL VOLUMES OVERLOOKING THE GREEN FRONT.
