Jay Sawyer, an astronomy buff from Northbrook feels that the martian surface isn’t hospitable to humans or most known life forms because of the radiation on the planet, greatly reduced air pressure, and an atmosphere with only 0.16% oxygen. He notes that as there’s no free oxygen in the Martian atmosphere, humans would die of hypoxia on the planet within minutes. Therefore, human survival on Mars would require living in artificial habitats with complex life-support systems.
