• WaterVentures is a state of the art , interactive , mobile learning lab that features enriching and engaging activities that offer a hands-on look at Florida’s Diverse watersheds, water conservation and recycling. WaterVentures provides experiential learning that inspires critical thinking and empowers students to make a difference in the world around them. • The centerpiece of WaterVentures is a 53-foot tractor-trailer that has been transformed into a science learning lab on wheels. The museum quality environmental education exhibits have been designed by the experienced teaching team from Crystal Springs Foundation, Inc. Creative Arts unlimited, an award winning, Florida-based design/fabrication company, was hired to bring our educational ideas to life in a creative and engaging fashion. • WaterVentures is a FREE resource for the state of Florida and since setting out on the road in January 2013, WaterVentures continues to visit schools, fairs, conferences and festivals daily!

COUNTRY ENTERTAINMENT ADVENTURE HIGHLIGHTS

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Friday, March 2 • 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

On Field Trip Day, presented by Water Ventures, the park is open solely to registered elementary and middle school students. This day provides a unique opportunity for students to gain a broader perspective and understanding of the world by teaching them educational facts while exposing them to Jacksonville’s diverse culture. Students are encouraged to visit all 32 countries to learn all about their customs and culture. Stop in the African Village to experience storytelling; learn origami in Japan; and stop by and learn about the different Native American tribes with the First Nation.

Sunday, March 4 • 2 p.m. Dressed in authentic traditional clothing, representatives from each country will offer a welcome greeting in their native language then proudly carry their native flag throughout the festival in this festive parade.

Sur sday! Welcome to the great lands of Cambodia. This Southeast Asian nation is

home to one of the largest religious monuments in the world, the Angkor Wat. The temple is surrounded by an outer wall that is then surrounded by a moat where the only way in is an earth bank. It is known for its complex architecture and surrounding land to make it one of the most visited places in Cambodia.

Nı̌ hǎo! Welcome to China, where the official languages are Standard Chinese and Mandarin Chinese. China is located in East Asia with a vast landscape that covers a large part of Asia. As one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations, there is much to explore—from the Great Wall to the Forbidden City or the busy city of Hong Kong to a Silk Road street market. 12

Buenas! Welcome to Colombia, where the official language is Spanish. Colombia is located on the northern tip of South America. A wealth of ancient history, Colombia is home to the one-time Tayrona capital, Ciudad Perida (Lost City). Cuidad Perida was built between the 11th and 14th century only to be rediscovered in the 1970s. Accessible only on foot, the lost city is one of the continent’s mysterious. 13

Hola! Welcome to Cuba! While in Cuba they speak many languages, the official

language of the country is Spanish. Cuba is located in just south of Florida in the Caribbean. In Cuba there are plenty of landmarks, shopping areas, and restaurants to visit and indulge in some delicious Cuban food. Pork and chicken are the two favorite meats in Cuba that are typically served with fruit and root vegetables grown in the tropical climate.

The country is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. While known for their pristine beaches, the island has a history and culture worth exploring with numerous museums, colonial architecture, and other historical sites.

languages of Ecuador are Spanish and Quechua. Ecuador is close to the equator on South America’s west coast. One of the locals’ favorite thing to do is climbing the steps of Guayaquil. In this city the colonial and contemporary parts melt together. As you take in the views of the vast Guayas River, you can smell the delicious local food. On the coast of the river the fish is fresh and the locals enjoy Encocado de Pescado.

Bonjour! Welcome to the Republic of Haiti, where the official languages are French and Creole. The country is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to the east. Haiti is famous for its incredible nature, especially one the country’s natural treasures, the Bassin Bleu. The Bassin Bleu is a made up of three deep turquoise pools linked together by waterfalls. The journey to get to the pools is not easy, however, along the way you get to see Haiti’s natural beauty and hear local stories of mermaids that supposedly live in the pools.

Namaste! Welcome to India. India’s official languages consists of Hindi, English and Bengali. India is a country located in South Asia. Indian jewelry is a big part of India’s culture. of English Creole called Jamaican Patois. Jamaica is an Island country located in the Caribbean Sea. This island is known for its reggae music and the legendary singer Bob Marley. Jamaica also has beautiful waterfalls, rainforests and beaches to explore. A wellknown waterfall in Jamaica is the Dunn’s River Falls. This waterfall can be climbed and is one of the largest tourist attractions.

Konnichiwa! Welcome to Japan. Japan’s official language is Japanese. Japan is an island country that lies off the coast of East Asia. Japan has numerous mountains and volcanoes. Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain with an elevation of 12,388 feet. Mount Fuji is also known as a sacred mountain and is surrounded by many temples and shrines. Climbing the mountain has long been a religious practice. 22

MÉXICO

Hola! Welcome to México. Mexico’s official language is Spanish. México is a country located between the U.S. and Central America. It is known for its Danza dances. Danza De Los Viejitos (dance of the little old man) is a traditional folk dance where dancers are colorfully dressed as senior citizen men. The dancers wear smiling masks, wooden shoes and a cane in their hand. During the dance the dancers act as though they are aching and hunched over like old men, with minimal movements. These movements then turn into vigorous dancing combined with trembling and coughing and falling over. 27


Morocco

Salaam! Welcome to Morocco. Morocco’s official language is Arabic. Morocco is

a country located in North Africa and is known for its vibrant flea & street markets in the city of Marrakech. You can find almost anything at these markets and wander around for hours. Another unique place to visit in Morocco is the city of Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen is known for its striking, blue-washed buildings.

Native America Aztecs Niltze (Hello)! Aztecs speak their own language called Nahuatl. The Aztecs are

known for creating an empire in Mexico. There are myths that the Aztecs came from a missing island called Aztlan and then migrated to Mexico. Today it is still unknown where the Aztecs originated from and remains a mystery.

do not use a form of hello when they greet each other. Yaqui speak a language called Noki. The tribe is from the valley RĂ­o Yaqui in the Mexican state of Sonora and the Southwestern United States. They lived in family groups along the Yaqui River (Yoem Vatwe), where they gathered wild desert foods, hunted game and cultivated corn, beans, and squash.

Cherokee Osiyo (Hello)! The Cherokee speak Tsalagi Gawonihisdi which is an Iroquoian

language. The tribe originated from North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Cherokee lived in bark-roofed windowless log cabins, with one door and a smoke hole in the roof. A typical Cherokee town had between 30 and 60 such houses and a council house, where general meetings were held and a sacred fire burned.

NIGERIA

Hello! Welcome to Nigeria. Nigeria’s official language is English but there are about

ten other popular languages spoken within the country. Nigeria is located in West Africa and known for its wildlife. Yankari is a national park in Nigeria that covers over 870 square miles. This park is abundant in animal life, with antelope, elephants, hippopotamuses, giraffes, baboons, hyenas, lions, leopards, and crocodiles. Yankari National Park plays a crucial role in the development of tourism and ecotourism in Nigeria.

PALESTINE

Ahlan! Welcome to Palestine where the main language is Arabic. Located in the Middle East and home of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, this sovereign states is known for their traditional cuisine such as rice, lamb and yogurt and the famous Dabke dance. The Dabke dance is a folk dance performed at Arab weddings and is used to tell a story. The dance can be performed with a live band and traditional instruments such as the oud—an ancestor to the modern-day guitar. 31

Hola and welcome to Perú where the main spoken languages are Spanish and

Quechua! This country is based out of South America where it is home to part of the Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu. You can find the historic sight of Machu Picchu in Cuzco, the capital of Perú and explore the history of the Inca empire and the remains of the deserted temple to discover its greatest mystery.

Kamusta. Welcome to the Philippines where we speak Filipino and English. The Philippines is composed of over 7,000 islands but almost 5,000 are unpopulated and still unnamed. The Southeast Asia country is well known for their beautiful beaches such as Boracay and is actually the top leading producer and exporter of coconuts, also known as “buko� in the world shipping out about 19.5 millions tons every year! 33

Część! Welcome to Poland where Polish is the main language. The country of Poland is rich with culture and its love for music and dance. There are five traditional dances that originated in this nation including the Krakowiak, the Mazur, Polonez, the Kujawiak and the Oberek. All are danced to popular folk music that was played with many folk instruments such as the Hurdy-Gurdy- a string instrument that plays a haunting-like sound and is accompanied by voices. 34

Located just south of the small fishing village of Gansbaai, is the famous Shark Valley which is known for being the home to one of the largest populations of Great White Sharks. Barcelona, the capital of Spain, is its second largest city with over 1.6 million residents. This is also home of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral that has been under construction since 1882 but is expected to be finished between 2026-2028. 37

Hello! Welcome to Saint Lucia! While the official language of the island is English, Saint Lucian Creole French is spoken by the majority of the population. St. Lucia is an eastern Caribbean island nation located off the coast of Venezuela. The island’s creole heritage along with the miles of shorelines gives the island's traditional cuisine a taste that is like no other. Saltfish and Green Figs is a national dish of Saint Lucia, slowly cooked with peppers and onions, the saltfish is served boiled, unripe bananas. 38

Nı̆ hăo! Welcome to Taiwan. Taiwan is an island country located in East Asia where the official language is Mandarin Chinese. Caihongjuan Village also known as Rainbow Village in Taichung, consists of a few houses vibrantly painted by a village resident known as “Rainbow Grandpa.” The village, originally for military veterans, was due to be demolished until Rainbow Grandpa brought it back to life. 39

U.S. Virgin Islands

Hello! Welcome to the U.S. Virgin Islands. The official language is English and the country is a group of islands and islets in the Caribbean. These islands are known for their crystal clear oceans, white sandy beaches and scenic hiking. Virgin Islands National Park is located in St. Johns island, which is the smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands.
