Stumble in the Jungle

An Unforgettable Night in Jacksonville
BY BRIAN LUNSFORD

Last month, my son Jake and I were in the stands for the Monday Night Football matchup between the Jaguars and the Chiefs—a game that promised fireworks and delivered even more than anyone expected.
Going in, we knew it would be tough. The Chiefs, led by Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid, were the powerhouse most expected to win. The Jaguars, though, have given us reason for hope this year. Maybe, just maybe, this was finally the night Jacksonville would take down Kansas City—something that hadn’t happened since 2009.
The stage was massive: national TV, a sold-out EverBank Stadium and more than 25 million people watching across the country. Most didn’t give the Jags much of a chance.
Then came the moment.
Fourth quarter. Less than a minute left. Down by four.

The tension was thick. The energy electric. And then—disaster.
After the snap, Trevor Lawrence stumbled. He fell flat on the grass. The stadium gasped as a collective “Nooo!” echoed from nearly 70,000 fans. You could feel the heartbreak in the air. It looked like the same old story—so close, yet just short.
We thought it was over.
But it wasn’t.
Trevor didn’t stay down. He popped back up, slipped again, but refused to quit. With the clock ticking and the odds against him, he scrambled forward and dove into the end zone for the gamewinning touchdown.
Right. In. Front. Of. Us.
The stadium exploded. Jake and I jumped up, yelling, high-fiving strangers, pure joy washing over everyone in teal and black. The Jaguars had done it, an incredible upset, right here in Duuuval!
As we walked out that night, I couldn’t shake one thought: That play was more than a football moment, it was a life lesson.
When pressure hits and life knocks us down, what do we do? Do we listen to the doubts from others or from within, or do we fight to get back up?
Trevor and the Jaguars reminded us that night that even when you stumble, you can still finish strong. It’s not about never falling, it’s about refusing to stay down.
Here’s to perseverance, belief and getting back up, no matter how many times we stumble.

BRIAN

BY NICK INGRISANI
SHAPING THE FUTURE OF REAL ESTATE LAW IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA
Brian grew up just outside of New York City, studied at the University at Albany, and went on to Ave Maria School of Law in Southwest Florida—drawn by both a strong scholarship and the appeal of a new environment. But even while growing up, something drew him to a career in law.

“That’s always been the goal. It was the response I always gave if anyone asked what I wanted to be. I’m not sure why I was drawn to it as a kid.”
Brian considered joining the military in college, but his parents encouraged him to accept his academic scholarship and continue with school. Still, the idea never fully left his mind.
A close friend serving in the Marine Corps reawakened that calling, and by his second year of law school, Brian decided to commission.
The Marine Corps treats its lawyers differently from most branches: you are a Marine first, attorney second. That meant Brian completed the same training as other officers—long field exercises, infantry tactics, helicopter drills—before he ever set foot in a courtroom. After passing the bar in 2017, he went on active duty the following year, beginning with a temporary assignment at the Pentagon before reporting to San Diego.
His service between 2018 and 2023 included everything from leading a legal assistance office that handled family law, real estate, and estate planning, to serving as a criminal defense counsel in cases ranging from minor offenses to serious felonies. He later became an instructor at the Naval Justice School.

WOODS, WEIDENMILLER, MICHETTI, & RUDNICK LAW FIRM
Brian with Joshua Rudnick, one of the founding partners of the firm.
Brian and his wife, Bristine.

While stationed in California, Brian gained his first hands-on exposure to real estate law through the legal assistance office. Helping Marines resolve tenant disputes, draft documents, and navigate property questions revealed an aspect of the law that resonated with him. Unlike criminal defense—where one side always walks away dissatisfied—real estate offered something different.
“Being in a legal assistant’s office, I enjoyed the pace of it and being involved in these transactions. I’m fortunate from my time in the Marine Corps to have touched on everything. On the real estate side, as long as it’s a smooth transaction, clients are always happy, which wasn’t always the case in criminal defense. In this business, everyone walks away with a smile. It’s nice to help people grow their wealth.”
That sense of collaboration and mutual benefit stayed with him. When his active service ended in 2023, Brian joined Woods, Weidenmiller, Michetti, & Rudnick, a law firm he had previously interned with during law school. The firm, originally established in Naples, Florida, had expanded into Jacksonville, where Brian now leads much of its growth.
Today, Brian focuses on transactional real estate work, including title services, closings, residential and commercial purchases, vacant land deals, and condominium or development projects. He also handles business law transactions, helping clients establish entities or structure sales of their companies.
The Jacksonville office is still new compared to the firm’s stronghold in Southwest Florida, but Brian sees enormous potential. His goal is clear: to build the office into a hub that rivals or surpasses the firm’s established market, closing thousands of transactions annually. Achieving that requires more than sharp legal skills—it calls for relationships.
Realtors, lenders, and insurance providers are key referral partners, but real estate agents in particular form the backbone of Brian’s network. He sees their trust as invaluable, which motivates him to consistently deliver what he calls “white glove service,” ensuring every detail is handled seamlessly.
“I tell realtors: I know it’s a vote of confidence and your reputation is on the line if you recommend my firm and we don’t meet your clients’ expectations. Realtors are dependent on growing and finding new clients just like us, so I appreciate it when they put their trust in us.”

While work keeps him busy, Brian makes time for pursuits outside the office. Fitness remains a cornerstone, along with golf, surfing, and travel. Much of his free time is also devoted to helping his wife care for their horse, Manhattan. Growing up as a city kid in New York, he never imagined he’d one day own a horse, but it has become a meaningful part of his family’s life.
“I never thought I’d own a horse as a city kid growing up in New York. This was one of my wife’s dreams, and we got incredibly lucky to have a ranch behind our house.”
His background also brings a unique layer to his work. Brian’s father was a carpenter, and Brian spent countless hours on construction sites sweeping floors, carrying tools, and learning the trades. Working with developers and handling real estate transactions today feels like a full-circle moment, tying together his upbringing, his legal training, and his military discipline.
“I really enjoy working in real estate. Every day presents a new challenge and it’s still exciting to me.”
Brian deeply values the unpredictability and the satisfaction of guiding clients through milestones that often represent the largest investments of their lives. The Marine Corps taught him discipline and resilience; now, in the world of real estate law, he applies those same qualities to build trust, expand his business, and serve his community.
In the years ahead, he envisions the Jacksonville office becoming a powerhouse of real estate law, known for its professionalism, consistency, and client-first approach.
“I want Jacksonville to mirror or be bigger than our main office in Southwest Florida. My goal is to make this a huge market for us and continue to expand and grow.
As a defense counsel in the Marine Corps, we’d jokingly hide out on Fridays because that’s when you would get new clients. No one wanted to make eye contact with our boss that day because their case load could double. But now, I’m networking and growing the business, growing those relationships, and expanding. I enjoy going to events, meeting people, and seeing how we can work together to both grow.”
I REALLY ENJOY WORKING IN REAL ESTATE.”

Adam Adam

BRINGING MILITARY PRECISION & DEDICATION TO REAL ESTATE
BY NICK INGRISANI PHOTOS BY THE REAL ESTATEOGRAPHERS
Adam grew up in the Hamptons, with early years that were fast-paced and filled with hard work. Summers meant long hours in restaurant kitchens, where he worked as a line cook surrounded by the energy of the seasonal nightlife. In the winters, he traveled to the Caribbean to continue cooking, chasing both adventure and experience. But deep down, he knew the lifestyle wasn’t sustainable.
It was Adam’s father who encouraged him to join the Navy, a shift that would change everything. In 2007, he enlisted and took the aviation route, working with advanced aircraft technology. The Navy brought him to Jacksonville in 2008, where he would ultimately build his life and career. Over the next seventeen years, through multiple deployments and countless miles traveled, Adam developed a sense of structure, leadership, and integrity that would later
become the foundation of his business philosophy.
“My time in the Navy shaped me into a business-minded professional. I was a bit of a wild kid growing up, but the military gave me structure, discipline, and focus. Now, people often come to me for advice about joining the service, and I can honestly say it gave me the tools I needed to succeed in life and in business.”
Adam’s journey into real estate began almost by accident. Around 2018, he started helping fellow service members manage their homes while they were deployed. What began as a favor quickly grew into something much bigger. Before long, he was managing multiple properties, discovering both a knack and a passion for helping people navigate housing transitions.
“Before I realized it, I had built a small business. One
day, someone pointed out, ‘You’re practically working as a real estate agent already— why not make it official and get your license?’”
In 2020—while still on active duty, working long hours, and caring for a newborn—he officially entered the business with Keller Williams. That first year, he closed roughly $15 million in sales. His drive and natural connection with people carried him forward, even through the challenges of balancing military service, family, and real estate.
But Adam’s mission went beyond sales. He envisioned a team built on trust, shared experience, and genuine understanding—a place where military families could turn for honest, reliable guidance. In 2022, he founded The Military Group, a real estate team designed specifically to serve activeduty personnel, veterans, and their families.

“IN THE MILITARY, ONE BAD REVIEW COULD RUIN EVERYTHING, SO HONESTY AND INTEGRITY WERE NON-NEGOTIABLE.”
“I wanted to build a team where military personnel could support one another, so I started The Military Group with the goal of serving them as much as possible. After helping a few families buy and sell homes, word spread and they realized they could count on me.”
Every member of the team has a direct connection to military life—whether through personal service, family ties, or both. Even their admin staff and vendors share that background.
“When I first got into real estate, my goal was to make it feel like a brother or sister helping you out—someone who truly has your back and makes sure you get the best deal possible. With a permanent change of station (PCS), you can be completely settled in Jacksonville one day and then get orders to move your whole family the next. We’ve all experienced that, and we know how to navigate that road together.”
As a Navy Chief, Adam’s leadership style is deeply influenced by the structure of military divisions. His business follows a similar model—everyone has a role, and communication flows clearly up and down the chain. If there’s a problem, it’s addressed systematically and with accountability.
Honesty, he says, is nonnegotiable. In the military, one bad review can follow you for years; in real estate, reputation carries the same weight. That’s why The Military Group prides itself on doing right by every client, every time.
“In the military, one bad review could ruin everything, so honesty and integrity were nonnegotiable. I’ve carried that same mindset into real estate—doing everything we possibly can for our clients. From day one, we’ve made it clear: it doesn’t matter the size of the deal, every client receives the
same level of commitment, integrity, and service.”
Today, the team has 15 agents and continues to grow rapidly. They’ve doubled their production year over year—from $20 million to more than $40 million in sales—and nearly all of their business comes from referrals and repeat clients. For Adam, that’s a testament to the team’s core values and the community they’ve built.
After successful years with Keller Williams and Coldwell Banker, Adam transitioned The Military Group to REAL, a digital brokerage platform that reflects his forward-thinking approach. The team is now expanding its footprint, with offices opening in San Diego, Norfolk, Birmingham, and Washington.
“My 10-year plan is to have The Military Group accessible at every base in America.”
Much of the team’s work involves supporting families overseas or on deployment. They handle virtual tours, video calls, and full-service transactions for clients who
often never set foot in their new home until move-in day. Seeing those families settle, thrive, and eventually return as repeat clients is what fuels Adam’s passion for the business.
Despite his demanding schedule, Adam remains deeply family-oriented. His wife, Sarah, manages their property management business, and together they’re raising two young children— Lily and Amelia. They love to travel, boat, and spend time at the beach together, and prioritize exposing their kids to new places and experiences. For Adam, success isn’t just measured in numbers—it’s about building a life of service, freedom, and connection.
“To me, success means more than just having time for family—it’s also about being there for our sailors and soldiers. It’s making sure we’re supporting them in every way we can, and committing each day to doing what’s right.”
From a young man in the Hamptons kitchens to a Navy Chief leading one of

Jacksonville’s most missiondriven real estate teams, Adam’s story is one of growth, resilience, and purpose. His work continues to embody the same principles that guided him through nearly two decades in uniform— integrity, service, and commitment to others.

Travis
BY JESS WELLAR PHOTOS BY THE REAL ESTATEOGRAPHERS
Tamillo
“I have always advocated for newer, junior sailors to buy a home instead of renting if they can,” Travis Tamillo begins. “Building equity and house hacking is a great way for servicemembers to build financial stability.”
A rising Realtor with Real Broker in Jacksonville, Travis is the kind of agent who turns lived experience into wins. A retired Navy Aviation Structural Mechanic and Recruiter, he now serves as a newly minted Team Leader within The Military Group, helping active-duty families and veterans navigate Permanent Change of Station (PCS), VA loans, and fastmoving Florida markets by keeping the mission simple: empowering clients with homeownership.
Switching Gears
Originally from Athol, Massachusetts, Travis signed up for the US Navy fresh out of high school and spent the next 21 years serving his country as an Aviation Structural Mechanic and Recruiter. Eyeing his fast-approaching retirement, Travis didn’t wait around for a second act to find him. He met team owner Adam Zahra, a fellow Navy instructor at the time, and decided to join The Military Group upon licensure in August 2023. Once the runway was clear later that year, he quickly accelerated.
“I intended to go part-time originally, but business took off; it just snowballed through referrals,” he marvels.
Real estate clicked because the fundamentals felt familiar: listen carefully, assess the situation, and execute under pressure. “Being able to talk to people and understand their
needs comes naturally to me,” he adds. “I have always been able to get along with everyone.”
Travis also brought ownership experience to the table. As a landlord and homeowner who has moved frequently, Travis realized the job was something he was well suited for. And his stats back up this claim, with nearly $5.5 million closed on 14 transactions last year, his first full year in the business. Travis credits a disciplined mindset that hasn’t changed since leaving the Navy. He recalls one of his greatest obstacles faced while serving and the perspective it gave him on the other side.
“I was deployed with a young family during COVID and spent 206 days at sea with no ports, limited communication, and no FaceTime during the height of the pandemic. I was also facing a PCS move upon the return home,” he recalls.
Perspective and a level head was the ultimate compass.
“I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel as my career was soon coming to an end and I would transition out in a few years,” he continues, “So I focused on my family and my future. I also focused on small little goals along the way.”

Like-minded Teammates
For Travis, Veterans Day isn’t a oncea-year celebration, it’s a year-round operating system. After more than two decades of military service, the experience now fuels his leadership role inside a like-minded unit at The Military Group.

“We’re a team of a dozen or so Active Duty, Veteran and Military Spouses specializing in VA buyers and PCSing,” he explains. “To civilians, PCS’ing essentially means receiving new orders to go to a different place every 3-5 years.”
Travis notes the team is also actively building the bench through recruiting efforts and the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program, a program for service members transitioning out of the military to receive relevant job experience and training while still on active duty.
Culture matters as much as service at The Military Group, too. “We have a terrific culture of fun and flexibility since we’re all military. Our attitude is ‘As you wish,’ he explains. “There’s very little pressure and a great deal of support.”
Mission Mindset
Travis’ value prop is simple: maintaining the niche he knows so well. He’s lived the PCS grind himself, leveraged the VA loan multiple times, and led sailors through the very moves his clients now face.
“I have personally PCS’d from Washington, Hawaii, to New Hampshire, Maine and finally Florida,” he elaborates. “There is something undeniable about working with an agent who has been leading people through that process for a long time and walked in the same shoes as these service members have.”
His successful four-year Navy recruiting tour also sharpened his sales engine. “It certainly taught me a lot about sales. My thought was ‘If I sold the Navy for a living, I can sell anything!” he chuckles.
“But I do think I was restricted a lot in the Navy. It’s a great service and I enjoyed it, but I get motivated knowing I am in control of my own success now every single day. I call the shots and can throttle as much production or as little production as I want to maintain worklife balance.”
Travis spent 21 years serving in the US Navy.
I could see myself in a future role helping
veterans transition
out of the military down the road.”

And he keeps a hard-charging mantra, “Discipline Equals Freedom” by Jocko Willink, top of mind as a daily reminder on the importance of perseverance. “By imposing structure, habits and standards for yourself you gain control of your actions, time and your future,” he offers. “That equals freedom from chaos and being at the mercy of circumstance.”
Life Anchors
Finally settled, St. Augustine is now home for Travis and his family. Married to his wife, Carrie, 10 years this month, the couple have known each other since
Up next? A Caribbean trip and potential visit to Lake Tahoe.
Closer to home, Travis and his loved ones enjoy hanging at the pool and dining out together. “Our favorite place right now is Vito’s in Julington Creek,” he adds. “They have a very tasty Italian cheese wheel pasta!”
Looking ahead, Travis keeps the target practical and people-first.
“I want to work as much as I need to to always be able to be there for my family now that I am retired,” he grins. And the lane is clear. “I have always enjoyed training and instructing people in my previous Navy career and now in real estate,” he concludes. “I could see myself in a first grade, both having grown up in the same small town in Massachusetts. Daughter Hadley (9), and son, Kyler (5) keep them on their toes, and 10-yearold rescue mutt, Charlie, rounds out the lively household.
Away from closings, the Tamillos love making new memories at Disney World as annual passholders.
“We have also started travelling more due to my recent retirement from the Navy,” Travis shares. “We want our kids to see the world while they are young.”

We appreciate our Veterans!
Thank you for your Service to our Country!
Growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, a proud military town, was something special. As a kid, I always thought military families were the coolest people around. They moved all over the country (and even the world!), and their stories always sounded so exciting. New schools, new adventures, new friends; to me, it seemed like they lived a life full of motion and meaning.
My dad was a pastor here in Jacksonville, and many of the members of our church were military families. I remember how respected they were, how people spoke about them with admiration and gratitude. They always carried themselves with a quiet strength, a sense of purpose, and a humility that made a lasting impression on me even as a child.
Now, as an adult, I see things differently. I realize the incredible sacrifices these families make: the deployments, the missed birthdays and holidays, the long separations, and the uncertainty that comes with every goodbye. Behind every uniform is a family holding down the fort, praying, waiting, and serving in their own powerful way.
Living in a military town means living surrounded by everyday heroes — not just those in uniform, but their spouses, children, and parents who support them with unwavering love and courage. It reminds me daily how blessed we are to have the men and women of our U.S. military protecting our freedoms and our way of life.
May we never take that for granted. And may we always remember to say thank you and not just on holidays, but every day.

One thing I am especially grateful for this year is the incredible support system around me. My clients, friends, family, and colleagues. Every success I’ve achieved hasn’t been mine alone, it’s been possible because of the people who continue to believe in me, trust me, and cheer me on. Their encouragement has fueled both my personal growth and my career to a different level this year.

I can’t really pick just one thing I’m grateful for this year. Truth is, I’m grateful for a lot. I’m grateful for my kids, because without them I wouldn’t push myself the way I do. I’m grateful I can afford the basics in life, because not everybody can. I’m grateful for my mom, who’s always in my corner and there when I need her. I’m grateful for my close friends, the ones I hold tight, because they’ve always got my back, especially when I need them the most. And I’m grateful that this is turning out to be my second best year in real estate. That means a lot to me.

Hi there! I am grateful for the chance to reunite with family this year, in particular with cousins who, most of them I have not seen in years and years. One side of the family got together to join in a celebration of life for grandmother who did make it to her 100th bday before her passing. Then sadly, my uncle’s memorial with the other side of the family. But through these losses, they brought us all together again. We now are making it a point to keep in touch and check in with each other. I am just so grateful for my family. It is truly a blessing to have the memories since we were young being together and now to see them and know them as adults (my cousins) it’s like having a bunch of new best friends all of the sudden!
