Mission OUR 4-POINT
Wellness:
WAVE prioritizes the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of Transgender/GNC individuals. This might include providing help to access healthcare services that are culturally competent and sensitive to the needs of Transgender/GNC individuals. Services could range from hormone replacement therapy and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, to counseling and support groups that address the unique challenges faced by our community.
Advocacy:
WAVE advocates for the rights and protections of Transgender individuals at the local, state, and national levels. This involves oftentimes lobbying for antidiscrimination laws, policies that ensure equal access to healthcare, housing, and employment, and protections against hate crimes. WAVE also work to raise awareness among policymakers and the public about the issues and challenges faced by transgender individuals, particularly those of color.
Visibility:
Increasing the visibility of Transgender/GNC in all spheres of life is revolutionary and our core purpose. We aim to amplify voices and stories of those in our community, showcasing contributions to society, resilience, and our diverse experiences.
Empowerment:
Empowering Transgender/GNC people to lead fulfilling lives is another of our key objectives. The goal is to help create a supportive community where Transgender/GNC people, specifically Trans people of color, can thrive and achieve their potential.

“AMERICA, YOU IN DANGER GIRL!”
BY JAVANNAH J. DAVIS
The United States is facing a tumultuous political climate marked by significant challenges that threaten the core values of democracy and human rights. I’ve chosen to take a deep dive into the dangers posed by the current political environment, focusing on the erosion of human rights through various legislative measures, particularly those targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, and the concerning implications of "Project 2025."
One of the most alarming trends in recent years is the overturning of ROE V WADE, and the war raging against reproductive health and a persons right to do with what they will with their bodies! Also, the introduction and passage of numerous bills aimed at restricting the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, especially transgender and nonbinary people. These legislative actions represent a direct assault on the principles of equality and freedom that are supposed to be the bedrock of American society Anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in multiple states, often under the guise of protecting traditional values or ensuring public safety However these laws primarily sports based on gender identity, and impose strict regulations on the use of public facilities. These laws not only infringe upon the rights of transgender and nonbinary people but also contribute to the instigation of fear and hostility The mental health and well-being of these individuals are profoundly affected, as they face increased stigma, discrimination, and violence.
The broader implications of these anti-LGBTQ+ laws extend beyond the immediate harm to affected individuals. They signal a dangerous shift in American politics towards the erosion of civil liberties and the normalization of discrimination. By targeting a specific group, these laws set a precedent that could be used to justify further restrictions on the rights of other marginalized communities. The long-term consequences for American society are profound, as these legislative measures undermine the principles of equality and justice that are fundamental to a healthy democracy. As a Black Woman of Trans experience I am scared, are you??
In addition to the specific attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, One particularly concerning initiative is "Project 2025," a strategic plan aimed at transforming the federal government to reflect a more conservative ideological agenda, or A.K.a. a damn dictatorship! While proponents of Project 2025 argue that it seeks to restore “traditional” American values, be warned that it poses a significant threat to the democratic process and the protection of individual rights of everyone!

“AMERICA, YOU IN DANGER GIRL!”
BY JAVANNAH J. DAVIS
Project 2025 proposes a sweeping overhaul of the federal government, including the dismantling of various regulatory agencies; ie. School boards, the curtailment of civil liberties, and the implementation of policies that could undermine environmental protections, workers' rights, and social safety nets. The project represents an effort to centralize power and shift the balance of government in favor of one groups agenda. Which could lead to a significant rollback of progress made in areas such as environmental justice, labor
rights through legislative measures targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly transgender and nonbinary people, highlights a broader trend of eroding civil liberties. The attempt to pass initiatives like Project 2025 further exacerbates these dangers, threatening to undermine democratic norms and concentrate power in ways that could have lasting negative impacts on American society It also poses significant dangers to the principles of democracy and human rights. It is imperative for all Americans to remain vigilant and actively work to defend these core principles in the face of these challenges by voting at local, state, and national levels, educating ourselves of what these representatives are trying to pass in legislature, and familiarize ourselves with who are representatives are on all levels.

My Experience at
the Black Trans Advocacy Conference
Attending the Black Trans Advocacy Conference (BTAC) in Dallas, Texas, was a transformative experience that I will cherish forever. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth, acceptance, and solidarity. The week was filled with enlightening workshops, powerful panel discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities, all of which were meticulously organized by the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC). I extend my heartfelt thanks to BTAC for putting together such an outstanding event, creating a safe and empowering space for Black trans individuals to come together, learn, and grow.
Throughout the week, I was continually amazed by the sense of community and mutual support. Nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming love and acceptance I received from my peers. For the first time, I felt truly seen and valued, not just as an individual, but as a vital part of a larger, thriving community of Black Trans excellence. The connections I made and the stories I heard were deeply inspiring, reinforcing my commitment to advocacy and the importance of uplifting others in the community.

My Experience at
the Black Trans Advocacy Conference
The BTAC conference was more than just an event; it was a celebration of resilience, identity, and the power of coming together. I left Dallas with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the strength and beauty of our community. I look forward to carrying the lessons learned and the love received into my future advocacy efforts, as well as my efforts to just be a good, compassionate, and loving human being.
One of the most memorable moments of the conference was receiving the honorable Monica Roberts Advocacy Award. Presented to me by Imara Jones, as Raquel Willis looked on. I was in a state of perpetual shock. The recognition was incredibly humbling and a testament to the work I do in my community. Monica Roberts was a trailblazer and a fierce advocate for the Black trans community, and to be honored in her name is both a privilege and a responsibility. It serves as a reminder of the impact we can have when we work tirelessly for justice and equality.
