Sandwich Court THEi campus, Kowloon Tong, HK

This is a campus design project. There was a basketball court in the old campus of THEi. The school planned to renovate the area and asked for design proposal from students of landscape architecture school. Sandwich Court is one of the selected proposals. We designed the garden in linear form with gradual increase of greenery.

This project studied the unique small size gardens in Hong Kong, called sitting out area. Causeway Bay Central Retail District, HK Soundscape has been applied at the interior commercial design for a long time. As the rapid development of the concept, it goes out from the application indoor to outdoor public space. Soundscape in public space has its unique issues, like how to control urban noise from streets crowded with people and busy traffic, as well as how to reinforce the connection to nature soundscape. Those issues tidily connect to urban planning and landscaping. After the research, it is found that sound type and preference are as important as sound volume in sound design. To design a soundscape, it must base on the commercial type and features of a commercial street or district. Landscape Design

Self-driving City Lok Ma Chau Loop, HK

This is a design based on Lok Ma Chau Loop Innovation and Technology Park development in 2017, it is a show case of new traffic system in which the self-driving machines will replace all the vehicles on ground and radically challenge the existing urban planning principles. The design concept bases on the intervention of self-driving technology and the redesign of vehicle and traffic network, it integrates the mobility in a city that release the potential of public space to become a fun, continuous, safe and user-friendly living area for citizens. Traffic will become automated and invisible no matter anywhere you go.

Filtering Landscape Sidoarjo, Java

This is a landscape planning proposal for the natural disaster happened at Sidoarjo, Java. The mud volcano erupted there ten years ago and formed a huge mud dam with temporary retaining wall to stop its expansion.

The government planned to discharge the mud into the Prong river, and it can help transport the mud to the river delta. A planting scheme is proposed in cooperate with the government’s plan to safely transport the pollutants without further contaminate the food production in the region.

A lack of inclusive environment for dogs leads to the loss of opportunity to develop the great potential of dogs as social capital. Although we know that owning dogs has various positive effects on the owners or caregivers on both individual and social aspect, we do not have an ideal extent to its application on the planning and design of public space under a specific site context. This research takes Hong Kong as an example to analyze the animal policy and public space for dogs, and it affects the interaction and connection between dogs and the community.

In terms of dog park design in Hong Kong, there is no any standard or guideline to refer to. The height of fence is various in different dog parks. The most common one is the railing standard from government which is 1.1-meter-high above ground.

However, it may not be applicable to dog park, especially for the large size dogs.

The planning and design of dog parks shows a presumption that the public has no need to have contact with dogs; dog should be enclosed and isolated from the public life. In fact that both human and dogs are social animals. They could possibly be interested in each other and their interaction should be encouraged through design. Principally, dog parks are a part of urban landscape and public open space, every citizens should be able to have a certain level of involvement, but not be excluded.

Kowloon Tsai Park, HK This report contains the findings of individual tree survey in relation to construction works that might involve in the Kowloon Tsai Park for the basic information of the existing trees.

Kowloon Tsai Park is located at Kowloon Tong in Hong Kong as a public park with sport courts on a small hill under the management of Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. The park covers 14.99 hectare. The individual tree survey covers a planting area about 500 square meters with 29 trees surveyed.

Report of Paving Aldrich Bay Park, HK

This is a report of structure and material study of a public park in Hong Kong, the report recorded and analyzed the performance, pattern and structure of material that used in Aldrich Bay Park.

Aldrich Bay Park covers an area of 22,000 sq.m. and is adjacent to the Aldrich Bay Promenade in Sai Wan Ho. The park was designed in the style of fishing village with architectural structures made of steel, glass, timber and natural bamboo. A simulated fisherman hut, a fisherman boat and two small sampans are structured in the feature pool to reproduce aspects of fishermen’s life in the past. # material research, THEi
