PORTLAND, OR PROJECT SCOPE Embark on a transformative redevelopment venture aimed at fashioning a forthcoming iconic landmark that will define the essence of the Richmond neighborhood. Beyond merely becoming a novel symbol for Richmond, this innovative park pays homage to one of Portland’s sister cities, Bologna, Italy.

Drawing inspiration from Bologna’s renowned towers, this project intricately weaves the historical tapestry of Bologna into the fabric of Portland, Oregon’s identity.

Nestled at the tower’s base, a captivating water feature beckons, dedicated to honoring Neptune, the Roman God synonymous with water and fertility. This symbolic gesture beautifully mirrors Oregon’s intrinsic connection to nature.

The park, meticulously designed with inclusivity in mind, is fully ADA accessible, featuring compacted gravel pathways and strategically placed ramps adorning the tower’s flanks.

Seek refuge under the canopy of pleached oaks strategically positioned to provide shaded enclaves for seating, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and functional design. This redevelopment initiative transcends the conventional, crafting a space that not only revitalizes the Richmond neighborhood but also pays tribute to the rich history and intercontinental connections that make Portland a city of cultural significance.

THE TOWER Above you can observe the classical proportions elegantly captured in the tower’s design. The symmetrical structure employs six as a perfect number, with the unit of six either multiplied or divided into thirds to craft a harmonious design language in alignment with Renaissance arithmetic principles.

Intended to stand as a new iconic symbol for the neighborhood, it is poised to mature into a future historical landmark that will endure for generations to come.
